Fun Fact: Wolverine was not expected to be the break-out character of the New X-Men when the first issue came out in 1975. The creators thought that would be Nightcrawler. The character was featured prominently in the stories, and was also given high-profile guest star roles in Spider-man comics. Readers didn't respond though, and when Canadian artist John Byrne started drawing the book in 1978, the Canadian hero Wolverine was featured more prominently and the character soon became a fan-favorite.
@@wambokodavid7109 Nightcrawler is such a great character and my favorite superhero. I think the reason that Nightcrawler doesn't get as much of the spotlight is because he is genuinely a good person. This means he doesn't tend to cause problems or have a personal rogues gallery, which helps to push stories forward. It's easier to write a story in which the main protagonist partially causes a problem that then has to be fixed. He deserves better.

Outside of his Wolverine’s role, I don’t think he’s been typecasted necessarily… He was in The Prestige, Les Mis, Greatest Showman, Prisoners, Chappie, fuckin Flushed Away, and none of those roles carried the same trope… But yeah, I get what you mean.. Wow, this interview was a treat. Hugh Jackman is awesome, one of my favorite actors of the generation and not just for his portrayal as Wolverine. I liked Hugh Jackman in The Prestige, he was good in Swordfish, I liked him in The Fountain (soundtrack was excellent too) and although Van Helsing wasn't the best monster film, Hugh Jackman wasn't bad in it. He was even kinda creepy (good in the context of the film) in Deception. To be honest, there was a lot to hate about the X-Men films and the first two Wolverine films, but Logan was fantastic. Jackman, Stewart, Keen, Merchant...excellent casting. The ending was sad, truly the end of an era but Logan is still one of the best hero films we ever got, bar none.
The way Wolverine went out in the comics was pretty gnarly he was encased in molted adamantium and from alternate universe old man Logan was thrown into that universe.

Out of all the comic characters they tried to get right, Hugh as Wolverine would have to be right on the money, the best match in the Marvel Universe. I’ve read around 4000 comics too, mostly Marvel and some Image. As a Huge Spidy fan, I wish they would do a darker Spider-Man, Rated M with Hobgoblin in the original Orange/Blue costume and the red eyes, set in the early 80s when Hobby made he’s first Appearance, man he gave Spidey some good belting’s
I agree but sadly in the future someone else will play as the character either multiverse or a reboot. Like Harry Potter I heard rumors of the studios rebooting it and damn not happy about it lol
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is one of my favorite live action superhero characters of all time. Every time I watched an X-men movie I was always like “Where’s wolverine?!” every scene of him I was always excited 😂 every time he pulled up his claws it was the most hype a fan could ask for.
Great interview! Hugh coming back as Wolverine is one of the greatest news I’ve ever heard of recently. Thank you, Hugh! You made us happy. The film’s gonna be epic, I’m sure! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Just one if the best actors. Period. When you watch a movie and don’t see the actor but the characters you know it’s talent. The fact you can see Jackman as Wolverine one second, then as Angier from The Prestige the next, it’s how you know they’re at the top of their field.
When ever I see Hugh jackman in interviews I always think, a better career couldn’t have been given to a nicer guy. He seems like Chris Pratt that way, as if he never forgets how lucky he is to be successful at this job and to do characters that he and the public like. He’s been playing Wolverine for nearly a quarter the of a century, 24 years and never phones in a performance.
So glad he's coming back. Him playing Wolverine in the original ones, was part of what ushered in the new era of super hero movies that we're in. His role of Wolverine was/is super important in that. Also, look how young he still looks, that's amazing
Ryan Reynolds is probably the only person that could have ever got Hugh Jackman to come back and play Wolverine one more time. I don't know if it had anything to do with Ryan playing Weapon 11 in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and him saying to Hugh that Hugh owed him a favor. That could have been it, but I am just glad we get to see Hugh put the claws on one more time.
I've always felt extremely frustrated that i would never be able to see Deadpool and Wolverine on a movie. Right after Deadpool one i thought to myself everything would fit perfectly, from the comedy to the action to the fact that both guys have healing factors to the fact that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman seem to be real friends. If done right, this has the potential to be one of the greatest action and comedy movies of all time. I just hope it's long, the focus in more on Wolverine ans Deadpool and not on side characters or other team members and that it remains R rated and the studios don't interfere with it. A Wolverine and Deadpool movie that isn'r R rated is a waste of potential. Please don't mess it up.

The two of them (Ryan more so, but Hugh played along,) have practically been goading anybody who'll listen to make this happen. Regarding that rating, I wouldn't be too concerned. Guardians 3 just got the MCU's first F-bomb past the director and editing. (Other actors have tried on cut improv takes.) They're getting a little more open to harder stuff. I'm sure they're not so tone-deaf as to not notice we liked Dp 1 & 2 as they were.

He will always be Wolverine and Robert will always be Iron Man. They can’t really be recast successfully. Hugh, thank you for bringing back this iconic character.

My favorite character is back! Thank you mr Jackmam to return my happiness to see you again playing my favorite idol. No one can replace your personality😊👍
When Hugh claimed he was done playing Wolverine I knew it was for the promo for Logan. Ryan Reynolds was pushing for a Deadpool/ Wolverine movie way before Logan was released so I knew Hugh would come back to play Wolverine at some point. Looking forward to Deadpool 3
Hugh is the whole reason why I watched the first X-Men movie. I remember watching the trailer for it, and it was the scene where Wolverine was battling Sabertooth on top of the Statue of Liberty. When he charges at Sabertooth while yelling, I thought, "Wow ! He's good at playing angry. I wonder what the character is so pissed off about." That's what got me to watch, and by the end of the film, I was a Hugh Jackman fan. So yeah the movie dropped in 2000, and now for nearly 23 years, I have been a fan of Hugh's. I'm so happy he's playing Wolverine again.
Honestly at this point since he’s finally in the MCU, I’d rather not see anyone else take the role. Just keep Hugh for special events like RDJ as both are simply too damn iconic as the characters
What i find interesting to think about and am completely onboard with is the love people have for this particular character+actor combination, where people will typically shun mistakes or bad movies and the character/franchise goes byebye, with this character+actor combo people will forgive things like 'origin' and just say "well, it wasn't that good, it happens no problem we still love ya, please try again in another movie".
Fun fact: I met Chris Claremont a few years ago and we were talking about Wolverine. His vision for the character originally was Bob Hoskins. He felt he had the short, squat, physical look plus the attitude. Don’t think he was ever interested but it was a neat idea.
I hope more people like Hugh get these roles. Its cool that it just hit him that he wasn't as done with the character as he thought when most everyone would have been fine if he didn't put the claws back on. Sucks for everybody out their gunning for that part though.
Imo though, people like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or even Robert Downey JR. as Iron Man are roles that I, personally, wouldn't mind seeing till they end up retiring from acting entirely. They're so iconic in their parts and they shaped such an important part of a lot of people's childhoods and lives as a whole that if Hugh dons the claws another 10 times I'd be thrilled to see it, but I also agree. People like Karl Urban should definitely get to play another version of Wolverine. I mean Billy Butcher is pretty much like if Superman and Wolverine had a baby. He deserves one shot at it at least.
The biggest testemony to how great an actor Hugh really is is how nice of a guy he is in real life. When you see him getting properly pissed in Logan you can't help but marvel (no pun intended) at how he's able to play the exact opposite of his energy.
Logan for me was his best Xmen movie/Wolverine solo movie I've ever seen, so its so refreshing that Hugh Jackman who is one of those actors that you cant put in a box, with other actors whom can't get away from a role they played, but Hugh clearly wants to give it another go, nothing but love for the character. cant wait to see Deadpool!!!🥺
After watching this, Hugh reminds me a lot of Tom Hiddleston who genuinely loves his role as Loki. Tom studied the comic book character and the Norse God Loki for ten years. I think its awesome that Hugh loves his character just as much.
When actors know their whole crew, you know they’re acting for themselves. They love what they do and see acting as very complex. They know they’re a part of something that’s being made by hundreds, or thousands of people. They don’t look good if no one else does. If they don’t look good, it’ll embarrass everyone on the crew. It may even cost someone their job, or lack of business in the future.

Whether or not actors take drugs is up for debate in each individual case, but one thing they all agree on, is they get sick of eating chicken! And just sick of eating in general. Forcing yourself to eat multiple extra meals a day, even if you don't feel hungry, you've just got to keep feeding the machine. Until you never want to see another dry chicken breast ever again. Honestly, one of the reasons I gave up trying to put on lots of weight when I was younger, was I literally could not afford to keep buying the sheer amounts of food I was consuming.
true with regards to eating. you see a lot of fitness channels on YT saying "you can shop healthy food with just $20 a week"--yes, but the amount that you can buy with it is not enough for you to build the muscle mass that you want. so, in the end, you still need to spend a lot more.
True i always thought about the cost. Still makes me confused on how people put so much weight on to become fat in the 1st place. rather their family is rich or they are financial bankrupt.
Agreed. I wish most people would understand this when they tell people with fast metabolisms that “you need to eat more” when they find them too skinny. Costs a lot of💲and can be too much work trying to keep up with that daily.

It's so refreshing to see actors who don't complain about being "typecast" in a beloved role....but instead choose to embrace the character and the fanbase completely.
Sometimes actors get tired when being asked about the role they were most popular for… Like Ben Affleck doesn’t like to talk about being Batman outside of his promotion for the movie… Hugh seems game whenever he was asked about Wolverine, even when he’s not promoting the movie..

I wonder what the character is so pissed off about." Honestly at this point since he’s finally in the MCU, I’d rather not see anyone else take the role.
This is a class, charm and style dripping interview. Damn. Kudos for both gentlemen.
Hugh Jackman decided to come back with pretty much 2 things in mind, a new way to play woverine and to deliver a long awaited fan dream what a legend
Fun fact: I met Chris Claremont a few years ago and we were talking about Wolverine. His vision for the character originally was Bob Hoskins. He felt he had the short, squat, physical look plus the attitude. Don’t think he was ever interested but it was a neat idea.
Glenn Danzig wanted the role BAD.
Yea.. but he's too old to play a middle aged man
I hope more people like Hugh get these roles.
Damn imagine telling people the stab marks on your arms are from wolverine himself. Definitely a badge of honor!!
