  • Hey artistic friend, are you trying to find your artistic style and voice? This will help...
Searching for your style and voice is a natural part of the creative process--and here's the clincher that most artists don't understand (at least I didn't for years): it happens over and over. It's supposed to.
Your creative voice speaks in the language of impulses, interest, curiosities. Take the creative adventures, trust those impulses, see where they go, make bad paintings. It's all part of the adventure of living the creative life, the artist's life.
This is an excerpt from a Live Q&A that I regularly have with artists who take my classes. If you'd like to join me, here is where you can find all of my available classes: marabethquinar...

Thank you Marabeth, what a great gift you gave given to all artistic people. Now I realise that I no longer need to feel that I'm wrong for not sticking with any one style, or medium or artistic activity. I'm having fun trying new things and being adventurous in using my creativity, and this is ok. I am not a machine in a factory churning out identical things. I will evolve and change and get joy from everything I do. Bless you.

I love this Chris-so well said, “I am not a machine in a factory churning out identical things. I will evolve and change and get joy from everything I do.” YES. Spot on.

I enjoy your perspectives about the process, Marabeth. They are inspirational and important. This video made me realize that I don't have 2 paintings that look even remotely alike. LOL! Maybe that's my "style."

This was very encouraging and helpful. I think I need to save it and listen to it periodically if I ever get discouraged. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for your regular encouragement. I often wonder why I'm making whatever it is I'm involved in and what is the point. That's usually when I get stuck but then I discovered your channel and it always gets me going again. Stay in experimental mode is perhaps the best "art advice" I have ever come across so again, many thanks.

I wonder if an art style is like an accent. You never really hear your own accent. It’s your voice.

yes, I think to a certain degree that’s probably very true. Going back and looking at your work over the years is illuminating that way-you get to see the ‘accent’.
