    The parking brake for the 4runner and GX470 are the hardest ever. I wished they have the open port from the back to do this while you have the tire on. Great video

      Yeah it’s not the best setup, I prefer to adjust with the wheels on as well.

    After a nightmare brake job this weekend, I have some words of advice to everyone doing this...
    1) if you increase the brake too much and the rotor turns enough to move the "window" to the brake setting, you may not be able to spin the rotor enough to align it again, thus not being able to loosen the spring again to get the rotor off.
    2) I have had OEM toyota rotors that had holes which did not align properly with the adjustment hole, which makes it impossible to turn the spring...do NOT tighten the spring with the rotor off and then place the rotor onto the hub to check tension because it may not come off again.
    3) be EXTREMELY careful using the M8x1.25 bolts to pop the rotor off and do NOT attempt to use this method if the rotor is stuck because of the parking brake. You can and most likely will crack the rotor and damage the parking brake.

      Pulling the parking brake handle 3 or 4 click then adjusting the brake turning the adjuster to tighten will prevent this from happening. You then release the parking handle to the resting position and presto, brakes are adjusted.

    Excellent detail showing what the adjustment screw does. Turning it towards the wheel center expands the brake and increasing the drag.

      Thank you for putting it like that. That makes perfect sense

      On some Asian cars is up on the passenger side, but down on the driver's side... What about Toyota?

      @@seanpop2886 yes that is exactly what my 4runner does.

      @@niknik5380 Thanks. Sometimes people will post things and not think about the entire process. Your confirmation is helpful. I have not had a chance to dig into my parking brake adjustment just yet. Knowing this not only saves time and physical effort, it makes an adjustment much simpler. Three clicks and check... 👍🏼

    Thank you for actually showing the adjustment wheel. Other videos I found didn’t explain or show that actual part clearly.

    Thanks didn’t know they made em taught like this, was yanking on the rotor and the keeper for one of the springs came off the front, now I gotta fish it all back togethor.

      I know your post is 2 years old but I did the same thing and had to fish it together in that narrow space. I am sure you have figured out how to get them on by now. I used zip ties to compress the inner springs and then fit everything into place. That made it so much easier. Then after everything was locked in place, I cut the zip ties to expand the springs. It worked so well.

    Proper way is click up till it's maxed out then two clicks down.

      Is this with the parking brake engaged?

    • @danmidkiff5416
      @danmidkiff5416 2 роки тому +2

      @@davidjimenez2002 this adjustment is done without pressing the pedal. The e-brake must be disengaged. If your pedal is pushed in, engaging the e-brake, you'll never get your rotor on or off. When you push the pedal down, the e-brake shoes will expand. Before trying to remove the rotor, make sure the pedal is disengaged, or you can damage the e-brake components trying to force the rotor off. Hope this helps.

      Excellent video. Tip for installing p.i.a. spring. Compress spring and tie with 2 pieces of thin string or wire before installing. Remove tie with small cuter after getting slotted cup positioned on pin. I wasted more time than I care to admit doing this.

    How do you attach the springs back on if they fell off? (The springs that have the pins on the brake shoes) please I need HELP!! Can anything be removed to make it easier?

    • @robopaul9
      @robopaul9 4 роки тому

      I don't think there's much of a trick to it, just keep trying and be patient. It's definitely a bit of a pain because of the tight space to work in but use a finger to hold the pin and use another finger or two to compress the spring.

    • @aguyagirlandatrail
      @aguyagirlandatrail  4 роки тому +1

      A panel popper trim clip tool works pretty well. Hold the pin from the backside and compress the spring and the retainer down over the pin with the panel popper, it doesn’t take much to get it to grab a bit then you can rotate the retainer your fingers until it clips in securely.
