Best to change out your oxygen sensors while the engine is cold. If you do this with a hot engine you risk burning yourself. Just isn't worth it. Ford uses Bosch for a lot of their O2 sensors. It may say "motorcraft" on it but most often it's a Bosch sensor made to Motorcraft specs.
Great video. My hybrid has been running a bit rough and the check engine light is on, but I freaking hate Ford dealerships and do not know any other trustworthy mechanics in the area. So replacing both sensors myself and learning more about my car in the process. Hope to have it around another 200K miles.
Thanks for this video. I just ordered both sensors for my 14 SE with the 2.5L from Rock Auto. I had the code and have been experiencing worsening gas mileage. I tried cat cleaners to no avail. I had no idea that the O2 sensors could get dirty and not send the correct information about the air fuel ratio to the engine. I guess I learn something new every day. The sensors don't look too difficult to get to.
Looks like I will be replacing mine tomorrow on my 2.0ecoboost '14 Fusion. I hope it's as easy as you made it look! I replace my own plugs and ignition coils, so, I def willing to give this a try, can't afford a rental while waiting for shop to fix.
@@MicahMartinDIY Thanks! Turns out it was the upper sensor. So I didn’t need my ramps(which are 30 miles away at my storage unit). Still a bit of a challenge to get my arm in far enough for me to reach, tho.
I removed my sensor and cleaned it with soap and water, flushed it with water then let it dry for a few hours and reinstalled. My check engine light went out and car is running good.
Hey Micah I had a code p0138 come up which is bank 1 sensor 2 and then it went away next day. Car is running at 1200 rpm’s at idle which I thought was high and I saw your fusion was doing the same rpm’s. My question is 1200 rpm’s for idle good for a fusion
I didn't notice any performance issues, I just got a check engine light and had the code read at Advance Auto. Once the sensor was replaced, the code cleared.
Will this work with 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid? mY Ford dealer diagnosis below and at 530 plus tax am thinking of just doing this myslef. thx "REPLACE CAT MONITOR SENSOR AND FLASH PCM THEN RE-TEST"
Yes, it will work. That is outrageous! You should be able to reset the error by disconnecting the battery for a few min. I never had to flash my PCM,. Just another thing to upcharge you for.
@@osutuba, Bank 1, Sensor 1 is teh passenger side upper sensor. It sounds like your Fusion has 4 of them. This is something you can easily do yourself if you can access it.
@@MicahMartinDIY I had no problem getting to it; the problem lies in the fact that none of the parts stores in my area have the part, so I'll have to order from RockAuto. I've read that it is best to replace both sensors if you end up replacing one. Is that true, and if so, where would I find the other sensor?
I'm pretty sure I got the Sensor for RockAuto.com I don't want to provide the link in case your car is different in any way, just search for your make/model/year/trim
Hey Micah, do you happen to know where Bank 1, Sensor 2 would be located on my car? I own a 2016 1.5 liter Fusion and I'm getting engine codes for that downstream sensor...
That should be the one just in front of the catalytic converter, you should be able to access it from underneath the car. Hopefully, you have some ramps.
Thank you so much for this video and the link saved a lot of money the auto shop wanted to charge me $180 for this same part

Good luck John! I hate commercial garages too.
How many miles did you have on it when you posted this comment

Great video! I'm getting a P013A code, so it should be pretty similar. Only note I got is that real men aren't afraid of a good mani/pedi! Cheers
Haha! I'm not a mani/pedi guy, but I'm glad that I could help you.

Good to hear! Nice job!
I use a pipe wrench on these o2 sensor but I’m sure the correct tool is handy too lol
A pipe wrench? Interesting...
Do you recommend spraying some pebee blaster onto the old o2 sensor prior to removing it, in order for it to be removed with less hassle.
Absolutely! Can't hurt at all. Good luck!
Does a bad O2 sensor make your car louder when running? I know your gas mileage decreases though.
It can make it run rich.
It's Solved erro P0171 ? I got this erro with my Ford Fusion Ecoboost 2.0.
I don't remember the exact code, but that sounds about right!
What does damaging the wire matter if you are removing a bad O2 sensor??
You need the specialty socket to install and torque the new sensor. You are right, it doesn't matter if you damage the old one.

what was the code?
@@MicahMartinDIY
So is the p0131 my car is calling for Bank 1 O2 sensor is that not the up stream look like in this video you are changing the downstream
Honestly it's been so many years, I don't remember, I'm sorry. But whoever read your code for you should be able to tell you.
Im getting an error code of P0420, is this the same code that you were getting?
It's been a few years, but that sounds about right!
Thanks. Hard to tell from video but is it easier to get to from front or rear of car? Bank 1 sensor 2.
On ramps and chocked, crawl under just behind the front tires.
So I got a reading of P0420. Would this be the same ?
I think so. Did it say upper or lower sensor?
Mine is 2014 fusion se will it fit my car?
Yes, I believe it is the same one.
I have a p219a code could this be the cause of it 2013 ford fusion 1.6 eco
It sounds like it. Any auto parts store could read the code for you and let you know.
I have it gives me that code and the code is air fuel imbalance but dosnt give me what is the cause
I have Ford Fusion 2014 the po131 bank 1 sensor 1 code came on would this fix the problem ? Thanks
I believe so. You just have to research if that is the upper one or the lower one.
Did that fix your issue?
How many 02 sensors does the fusion have? I have a 2.0 turbo
AS far as I know, there are two. An upper and a lower.
@@MicahMartinDIY thank you. Was thinking that but just needed confirmation.
What codes were reading before you changed the 02 sensor?
Something like "Bank 1, Sensor 1 Dowstream Sensor"
P0137 and P0141 aka bank 1 sensor 2
the replacement of the lambda probe on the video is in front of the catalyst or behind?
In front (upstream) of the catalytic converter.
Is this upstream or downstream please?? Thank you
This one was upstream of the cat.
@@MicahMartinDIY This is a downstream replacement though? Confused now.
how many oxygen sensor on ford fusion 2015 ??? is it 2 or 4 ?
Just two.
Is this bank 1 or 2 ? Thanks for the video
Bank 2

the cost for the 02 sensor these days is a little under 19 dollars! bought from Oriellys. thanks for the video
Thanks for the info!
Really? Cost me $100 from O'Reillys.
Is of same location for.2006 ford. Fusion sr?
I'm not sure. I think 2013 was the year they changed. So 06-12 are alike, but I'm pretty sure they went to the new Fusion in 13 or 14.
@@MicahMartinDIY okay because I check my car and I see 2 on top. Like back in the engine.. but I not sure .sr which is upstream and downstream..
What’s the link to order this sensor from Amazon?
I'm sorry, I looked and could not find it. It's been a few years since I posted this.
Which sensor is this you replaced?
The one just in front of the catalytic converter.
Micah Martin is it bank 1 sensor 1
if your replacing the sensor why cant you just cut the wire
You could if you want to. But you can't do that on the new one!
@@MicahMartinDIY i understand . but why would you have to replace a bran new one let alone cut the wire to get it off. the old one is trash so🙄
Is that Bank 1 Sensor 1?
I'm not sure Russel. Is that what the code reader told you?

That should be the one just in front of the catalytic converter, you should be able to access it from underneath the car. Hopefully, you have some ramps.
@@MicahMartinDIY Thank you, I do! Much appreciated.
How would I know if it’s downstream or upstream? Is there a difference?
Yes, if you have a check engine light and get the code read at any auto parts store, they should be able to tell you which sensor has malfunctioned.
The upstream is the sensor that lies before the catalytic converter. The downstream sensor lies after.
Is bank 2 the downstream? Thanks!
Special tool? Why not just wrench it
Because a normal socket will damage the wires.
What else did you change you said CO2 senor thats above the converter what is that?? Im having issues with mine and i got both oxygen sensors replaced
I only changed the sensor itself. I'm not sure what your problem could be if you already changed both of yours.
What error codes are you getting? I only replaced the upper stream sensor.
