two awesome pistols for sure. I would like to get a 5903 and maybe a p89 and shoot them both back to back to see which i like better. Smiths Third generation vs Ruger P series sort of thing.
Spent 20 years in uniform and carried the 4506 on my hip, the 457 on my ankle, and if off duty, the 4506 was swapped out for the 4566. Still have all of them and they are all still great after thousands of rounds. The 457 was great since it would receive the mags from either of the other models. Some of the best S&W ever.
That's awesome! That 457 is a cool concealed carry gun i bet. Agreed i wouldn't mind a small limited batch run of like 5906 or 4506 again. S&W could market them as a Legacy series i think. But no telling what they did with the tooling to make all the third gen smiths.
My S&W 6904 came with 20-22 pound hammer spring. I replaced it with a 17 pound hammer spring and 18 pound recoil spring (stock is 16). Makes the gun so much nicer. It also takes the 5900 mags, so I got a 17 round mec gar mag for a backup mag. I like it alot and looking to get it's big brother the 5604-6.
That sounds like neat little modification you have done. The third generations are so well made in my opinion, especially considering the cost per to value per dollar when they were new. I wouldn’t mind having a 5906 or a 5903. I gave like $350 for my 4003TSW and still have it. The really don’t make them like they used to.
Nice! I love my 4506-1. Mine was made right around the same time as yours. I think you're right on 1997 for the LAPD. I had read it wasn't approved until the late 90s... so, makes sense that it came as a result of the North Hollywood shootout. Thanks for showing it off!
Thank you for the comment! Glad to hear you have one as well. What sights does yours have? I would love to get the 4505 or just see one in person lol. Not a whole lot of those made from what I understand.
@@sigsauershooter3009 I have the factory adjustable sights on mine. I really dig 'em. Shoots right on point of aim for me. I have a video on mine, if you wanna check it out. And yes... I would LOVE a 4505. There's a movie with Al Pacino and Robin Williams... "Insomnia" I believe?... where Pacino carries a 4505. It's a cool flick. And worth it just for gun.
@@HipsterTactical Agreed insomnia is an awesome movie. I checked out your 4506 video and it was great man. I always wanted a 4506 with your sights but could never find one myself. I hope you find a 4505 someday and would like to see you do a video on the 1006. I wonder if the 4506 can handle .45 Super loads like the HK USP 45.
@@sigsauershooter3009 Based on what I've read, the 4506-1 can handle .45 super. I don't know if it requires a spring change though? Yeah, I'd love to get a 1006. Or a 1026 (the 5 inch with the frame-mounted decocker). I think I need to watch Insomnia again for that 4505!
That's awesome. From the 2006 movie i was always curious about that Stayer-Voigt Sonny carried. He never even fired it through the film though. But a great looking weapon still.
I bid on one of these not long ago. Quit bidding at $550 knowing that if I won I would have to buy a Galco leather shoulder holster. They're over $200.
Awesome gun! I have the 4566 model, same gun with slightly shorter barrel. It’s kind of stupid how the North Hollywood shootout was the impetus for this gun to being authorized, since cops wanted more firepower. The .45 wouldn’t have helped them in that shootout. The 12 gauge rounds didn’t help them. Having 8 rounds of .45 in a magazine was no improvement to 15 rounds of 9MM in a Beretta. That shootout went on for 44 minutes. 3 magazines if 9MM must have went pretty fast and I’d rather have 46 rounds of 9MM then 25 rounds of .45.
@@sigsauershooter3009 Most cops who went through the trouble of upgrading to a 4506, would also carry quad magazine pouches. So many cops would carry 42 rounds of .45 ammo. I got my 4506 coming off probation for LAPD the month after 9-11.The weight of the loaded 4506 and 4 extra mags play hell on the back after 21 years.
@@TheLAGopher i don't doubt the back troubles with the heft of this pistol. I've never carried my 4506 personally for EDC but have carried my Ruger SR1911 in the past and that pistol feels light compared to the 4506. Thank you for your service. What's the max amount of magazines you could carry on duty just out of curiosity?
@@sigsauershooter3009 There was no set upper limit. You have to carry 2 magazines minimum for duty and there is a 2 magazine limit for formal events when you wear a class A (Long sleeve and ribbons) uniform. Otherwise, it's as much as you can fit on your belt, and that you are willing to lug around. I even tried wearing a quad pouch and an extra one mage pouch (for 50 rounds) but it was just too much. About 10 years ago the department allowed the wearing of a outer shell body armor carrier (which looks like a uniform shirt) that has the added benefit of allowing the use of suspenders attached to the duty belt. It helps take the weight off the lower back and transfer it to the shoulders.
@@TheLAGopher oh thank you so much for all the info. yeah no good putting weight on your lower back. I can understand you wanting extra mags for duty no doubt.
