  • Welcome to The Quest Pod Season 2: Episode 19 with Laura Deming: the prodigy longevity VC talks about home-schooling, becoming a Thiel Fellow, and pushing the limits of human life through bio-tech.
Laura Deming is not your typical VC. She is the founder and partner of The Longevity Fund, a venture capital firm focused on the study of aging and life extension in humans. Home-schooled in New Zealand, she moved to the U.S with her family to work in an age genetics lab at just twelve years old before dropping out of MIT at fourteen following her acceptance as a Thiel Fellow.
In this episode, Laura and I discuss her journey to become an effective leader, taking risks, dealing with failure, and being motivated to change the world for a better place. Beyond her impressive resume, she is a reminder that great founders can come from anywhere, so long as you have the passion to pursue something relentlessly and are not afraid to step outside your comfort zone.

Great interview Justin! Aging is such an interesting topic and it surprisingly has not gotten the amount of attention it deserves, especially in the tech world. I hope someday the compensation can be on par with the importance, to get more smart people working on this problem.

Justin, this is really informative, but not knowing her age and what years she's talking about, it's hard to get tangible timeline of how events transpired. For instance, at what year did she email the lady at the lab? Are we talking about the 90s or like 5 years ago?

    • @FractalRadio

Not even close. She's already a proven success in her field, investing in and helping others start companies related to longevity.
She specifies not being on the front lines, is careful not saying anything currently undeterminable or definitive such as timelines, and is responsible enough to not tell people what to take or what she even takes because everyone's body is different even if something works generally.
The problem is SOME people can't even imagine where technology or science can and will take us. It's always been like that though.
