If only yamaha manuals were written as straightforward and clear as your videos are 😊 Still discovering the EX7 here and building patches. Working towards a small soundset to use in my future project
Thanks! The EX5 manual is more like a wiki, for people that one day think "hey, what if I wanted to frequency modulate a recording of a duck quacking with a bunch of sine waves and white noise - is that possible" and then you look it up in the manual and yes, it is. :-) (I'll show in a video one day)
Thank you for beginning my tutelage. Bought my EX-5 some years back and am waiting to set it up once my studio conversion is completed. It should prove to be a long and fun journey.
I agree. For some reason, 90s LCD screens are just my thing. Perhaps it's nostalgia, but I think the whole approach has a lot of a programmer's mindset. I can see the logic there. :)
@@mr_floydst hey, howre you? I'm going to pick my Ex5 up in 10 days yippee!! Do you think an mpe instrument such as Jamstik midi guitar would work OK with the EX5? I heard it can understand PolyAT..Generally stumped and not sure which midi guitar pickup/converter would work best. Fishman , Roland GI 20 GK or AXON AX 100(..was trying to find your video where you play EX5 using a guitar midi pick up so my comment is more relevant!). I play guitar better than keyboards...
@@oblongtom Hi! I'm afraid the EX5 does not understand MPE. That's a rumour that's hard to kill though ;-) The keyboard has aftertouch, but it's not polyphonic aftertouch. I use the Fishman triple play and it's quite nice with the EX5 guitar patches. Instant 90s alt-rock. ;-) Video is here ua-cam.com/video/WeuBWQyy_60/v-deo.html
Here is it the real joy of EX5! :-) You don't waste time, it's stimulating. Creativity is happiness! Your videos produce happiness! THX so much! @---,----'-----
Another interesting vid from which i got your 8 essential sound manglers, which would appear to be: Filter cutoff, Filter resonance, Amp Attack, Amp Release, Stero Spread, Detune, Delay and Distortion
Thanks for watching! Yes, that's what I used here, but of course you can use anything else (Filter attack, LFO, FM, pickup distance, reverb size, distance of sound source to resonator...) but I thought these are a good place to start as they are the most common ones.
Thanks for watching! :-) For a global adjustment, press the UTILITY button, then select "Synthesizer" and there you'll find it. In the sound editor, press the PITCH button. It's right there in the left column of the first page.
Haha, finally someone noticed it ;-) It's not that hard. Just hit f12 on your keyboard, then you can start inserting whatever content you like on any given webpage.
Thanks for watching! I don't know which transpose you're referring to, so here are all the options I know of: 1) to transpose a patch, use the transpose buttons found near the mod wheels. 2) to transpose a layer, EDIT a sound, go to the PITCH page and change the COARSE value. 3) to make a user interface element transpose something, go to the CONTROL page in EDIT mode, choose SET and select destination 48.

Thanks for watching! You're in for quite the journey. :-)
You will love the EX5, it is ONE HELL of a great keyboard!
Thanks for getting into the nitty gritty. After using EX as controller ....I am inspired to dig much deeper.
Thanks for watching! It's worth it. The EX5 still can do some unique things (FDSP being the most obvious).
There's something about that display i really love. I think its how they manage to fit so much into such a tiny screen with such low res.

What a monster of a keyboard! Great video... nice.
Thanks! :) It's my all time favourite synth.

tengo un yamaha ex5 .. saludos desde argentina
Cuanto cuestan aprox? Yo en Uruguay no creo que encuentre nada y ya estuve buscando un dw8000 y es imposible
Thanks for watching! :-)
That was awesome! Thanks

This is a great video. I didn't know where to start but now I do. Thanks! Is there a quick way to transpose in semitones?

Excellent
Thanks!
If only all their guidelines made sense😂
Good video 👍
Thank you!
Wooohoo an ex video
Yes! I felt like making one :-)

Pls how do I layer voices on the EX5?
Here's one of my videos explaining perfomance mode: ua-cam.com/video/iBATTCm4nvQ/v-deo.html
@@mr_floydst Thanks so much Floyd. I really appreciate you.
Thank you but I meant key transposition. I hope to get a reply soon 🙏🏾
No worries! That's easy. Press UTILITY, then SYNTHESIZER, and there it is.
Thank you so so much
It worked I hope you do more tutorials on this particular keyboard because it’s quite complicated.
Please check my channel. I have done a lot of tutorials on the EX5. There's a playlist there.
Ex5 differs from Ex7 only in the number of keys?
Hi, thanks for watching! No - the EX5 also has the VL engine ("Virtual Acoustic") and 128 voice polyphony max instead of 64.
@@mr_floydst Thanks😉 i will not buy ex7 i will look for ex5 instead
