I went to John Tewelow's channel and one of the first videos that I saw him talking about was mule tape compared to 550 cord. I watched his video and subbed him. Thank you David. Now to mention the MSR Stowaway pots and how nice they are to use... I have now gotten all four sizes and have replaced all but my slow cooker and pressure cooker for home use. They not only pack small for outdoor use but they nest together without the lids in the cupboard making tons more room. People pay much more for a kitchen pot. Why not replace the kitchen pots with these and you even feel like you are outside when at home.

for a good cleaning I recommend BarKeeper's Friend powder. A little water rinse, then apply a small amount of powder and scrub with a soft toothbrush. It will not scratch and your steel will look like new again.

That improvised bail is nothing short of Brilliant! I have looked at these MSR Stowaway pots at the local REI for about 4yrs now, and the only thing that prevented me from picking one up was the lack of a bail. I also figured that an improvised bail may be unstable because of the shallow depth of the pot. Your demo made it appear to be very stable, and I am stealing your friends bail trick for sure when I pick a MSR Stowaway pot up in the near future. Thanks for sharing that trick.

I have the complete Alpine set including the frying pan. I use them in the bush as well as for my daily cookware at home. I love them, but the 1.6L is a little sketchy to pour with. The handle tends to collapse no matter how tight I have it. I did the bail mod for the 2 biggest pots - what an enhancement. I use the Emberlit stove too. Very nice piece of gear. You are one of the only vids that I have seen that got the mod the correct length that when you pick it up the pot is not at an angle. You got to get the length right for the pot to sit flat over the fire. I do not like the two piece version of the mod, but I do LOVE this pot. Just bought my second one and paired with my MSR Alpine fry pan is everything my family needs on a camping trip.

I have the MSR 775 ml pot which nests my Chinese gassifier wood stove perfectly. Just received the 1.6 L pot this morning which nests the 775! They really are wonderfiul pieces of gear. Thanks for the great video.
I love that pot. I have multiple sizes and they have seen hard hard almost daily use for years… there is almost nothing wrong with the pots… besides some patina and scratching. Great design. Great video.
I know this is an older video, but I just watched it for the first time. Dude, I have that pot, and when you brought that makeshift bale out, I immediately paused the video and and asked my wife if we had any wire hangers while I got out my linemen cutting pliers. Thanks a lot. Would love to see you use a fish mouth spreader to make the lid into a frying pan. I don't know that trick either.

After a recent house fire where I literally lost EVERYTHING, this pot was salvaged. I managed to get my RKLodges Civil War tent from a portion of the garage that wasn't burned. The lid to this pot was not burned but the pot was in the kitchen and received the full fury of the fire. Save for discoloration, it was still in perfect working order...the lid still fit snugly. Now I am homeless for the next couple months. I use this pot DAILY to cook rice and beans in. It is actually worth its weight in gold to me. I have a canteen cup, but without this pot and lid, I'd be in even rougher condition than I am in now. I don't go hungry.

Great video. I first saw this cook pot on one of Dave Canterbury's videos and was impressed by it b/c he used the fish mouth spreader to make a pan out of the lid. The added bail makes it even more versatile. Now I can't decide on which size to get, .775L or the 1.1L.😂. I'm thinking the smaller one.

Great series! The Tomshoo wood gas stove $30 and Canway wood gas stove $20 both fit in the 1.1 MSR seagull as well. the thing i like about the tomshoo is my alcohol stove would drop right inside if i can't have a fire but it comes with a spirit burner tray that you can also use to burn solid fuel tabs. look up tomshoo on youtube there is an irishman named mike that does a good review of it but nobody has actually demonstrated it with an alcohol stove. i guess it burns pellets really well. someone like you would do a really good full review of it and i'd like to see that happen. ps. you convinced me to get the seagull. thanks!

I am looking for something moderate price yet functional. I have seen some cheaper ones that were pretty flimsy, or warped easy. Very concise review as are your other videos. However I do want to point out that you mentioned that it's a 1.1, I think your's is actually a 1.6 because the Emberlit UL measures a tad under 7.5 in and a 1.6 is 7.5 in diameter and the 1.1 is 6.6 in diameter according to REI's web site. I have a 1.1 and my Emberlit UL will not fit, so yours has to be the 1.6. I looked closely and I think your Emberlit is the UL and not the Fireant as well.
I might be the 1.6L. It's been years since I purchased it but I thought I remembered it being the 1.1L. It measures exactly 7" across and about 3" deep. My Emberlit is not the UL, nor the Fireant. Its the original stainless Emberlit model. I've owned it for quite a few years. Thank you for watching! -Dave

Hi Dave, this is a great series of videos you've made on cook sets. It's extremely informative and I've learned a lot . I'm currently putting together cookset and I'm very interested in the MSR pot . I was wondering if you can tell me if you've ever had an experience trying to boil water in this pot in order to make a quick cup of tea or such. How difficult it is to pour water from this large pot into a smaller cup? Since there is no spout on the spot , it appears that it may be difficult and that's my only hesitation in buying this pot . Personally, I have never had a problem with pouring coffee into a cup from the 1.1L MSR pot and now that you've mentioned it, I will do it in an upcoming video. Much of the time, I will use the improvised bail that I made to assist in the pouring. If it seems like it may be a problem with this MSR pot, they also sell smaller sizes than the 1.1L that I have here that may work even better for pouring. You are right, there is no spout, however, a slow, steady pour is the key. Stay tuned, brother. Very good thoughts and questions! -Dave

How wide does your stove pack to? I have a foldable stove that is thin enough to fit within the MSR pot, but I do not want to buy the 1.6L. It measures 4.6"x 3.75"x1" (Length, width, height) - do you think it would fit within the 1.1L MSR pot?

cool mod you can use the lid as a fry pan open the handle put on as it would be closed put a wier in the tops handle set on rock put oil fork spoon in the pot as a weight your wife going have pealing spuds for weeks

Yes have not used the Lid that way but saw it done and it is one the reasons I like it, a thought I had is to Find someone to weld 4 little legs or some sort of Stand that doesn't bother the locking lid or access to the Clip for Fishmouth Spreader Handle. I really like to see Videos where people Upgrade there gear so it can do more.
I'm wondering on storing your Emberlit wood stove inside your MSR/Seagull Alpine Stowaway cook pot. I have the MSR/Seagull 1.1L Alpine Stowaway cook pot and the my Emberlit Original stainless steel wood stove won't fit inside. Is your Emberit wood stove the Original or the Fire Ant model?

I have the complete Alpine set including the frying pan. I use them in the bush as well as for my daily cookware at home. I love them, but the 1.6L is a little sketchy to pour with. The handle tends to collapse no matter how tight I have it. I did the bail mod for the 2 biggest pots - what an enhancement. I use the Emberlit stove too. Very nice piece of gear. You are one of the only vids that I have seen that got the mod the correct length that when you pick it up the pot is not at an angle. You got to get the length right for the pot to sit flat over the fire. I do not like the two piece version of the mod, but I do LOVE this pot. Just bought my second one and paired with my MSR Alpine fry pan is everything my family needs on a camping trip.

I have the MSR 775 ml pot which nests my Chinese gassifier wood stove perfectly. Just received the 1.6 L pot this morning which nests the 775! They really are wonderfiul pieces of gear. Thanks for the great video.

I love that pot. I have multiple sizes and they have seen hard hard almost daily use for years… there is almost nothing wrong with the pots… besides some patina and scratching. Great design. Great video.
I know this is an older video, but I just watched it for the first time. Dude, I have that pot, and when you brought that makeshift bale out, I immediately paused the video and and asked my wife if we had any wire hangers while I got out my linemen cutting pliers. Thanks a lot. Would love to see you use a fish mouth spreader to make the lid into a frying pan. I don't know that trick either.

After a recent house fire where I literally lost EVERYTHING, this pot was salvaged. I managed to get my RKLodges Civil War tent from a portion of the garage that wasn't burned. The lid to this pot was not burned but the pot was in the kitchen and received the full fury of the fire. Save for discoloration, it was still in perfect working order...the lid still fit snugly.
Now I am homeless for the next couple months. I use this pot DAILY to cook rice and beans in. It is actually worth its weight in gold to me. I have a canteen cup, but without this pot and lid, I'd be in even rougher condition than I am in now. I don't go hungry.
I am sorry to hear about your house fire and your current homelessness, my friend. That is terrible. I hope things look up for you soon and that is amazing to hear about your MSR pot! Great video. I first saw this cook pot on one of Dave Canterbury's videos and was impressed by it b/c he used the fish mouth spreader to make a pan out of the lid. The added bail makes it even more versatile. Now I can't decide on which size to get, .775L or the 1.1L.😂. I'm thinking the smaller one.

Great series! The Tomshoo wood gas stove $30 and Canway wood gas stove $20 both fit in the 1.1 MSR seagull as well. the thing i like about the tomshoo is my alcohol stove would drop right inside if i can't have a fire but it comes with a spirit burner tray that you can also use to burn solid fuel tabs. look up tomshoo on youtube there is an irishman named mike that does a good review of it but nobody has actually demonstrated it with an alcohol stove. i guess it burns pellets really well. someone like you would do a really good full review of it and i'd like to see that happen. ps. you convinced me to get the seagull. thanks!

I have been wanting to add a stove to my kit for those times when a full fire is not needed.. I have seen many stoves, from budget to high end, and so I am a bit unsure of what I want/need. I am looking for something moderate price yet functional. I have seen some cheaper ones that were pretty flimsy, or warped easy. I have also seen high end stoves that I could not see what made them different from a moderate priced stove.
I am going to go check out your review of this stove.

Very concise review as are your other videos. However I do want to point out that you mentioned that it's a 1.1, I think your's is actually a 1.6 because the Emberlit UL measures a tad under 7.5 in and a 1.6 is 7.5 in diameter and the 1.1 is 6.6 in diameter according to REI's web site. I have a 1.1 and my Emberlit UL will not fit, so yours has to be the 1.6. I looked closely and I think your Emberlit is the UL and not the Fireant as well.
I might be the 1.6L. It's been years since I purchased it but I thought I remembered it being the 1.1L. It measures exactly 7" across and about 3" deep. My Emberlit is not the UL, nor the Fireant. Its the original stainless Emberlit model. I've owned it for quite a few years. Thank you for watching! -Dave

Hi Dave, this is a great series of videos you've made on cook sets. It's extremely informative and I've learned a lot . I'm currently putting together cookset and I'm very interested in the MSR pot . I was wondering if you can tell me if you've ever had an experience trying to boil water in this pot in order to make a quick cup of tea or such. How difficult it is to pour water from this large pot into a smaller cup? Since there is no spout on the spot , it appears that it may be difficult and that's my only hesitation in buying this pot . I drink a lot of tea, LOL. Thank you for all your informative videos and keep up the great work .
Hello, there, my friend! Thank you for such kind words and I am glad I could be of some assistance. The MSR pots are great! Personally, I have never had a problem with pouring coffee into a cup from the 1.1L MSR pot and now that you've mentioned it, I will do it in an upcoming video. Much of the time, I will use the improvised bail that I made to assist in the pouring. If it seems like it may be a problem with this MSR pot, they also sell smaller sizes than the 1.1L that I have here that may work even better for pouring. You are right, there is no spout, however, a slow, steady pour is the key. Stay tuned, brother. Very good thoughts and questions! -Dave

I have a foldable stove that is thin enough to fit within the MSR pot, but I do not want to buy the 1.6L.

cool mod you can use the lid as a fry pan open the handle put on as it would be closed put a wier in the tops handle set on rock put oil fork spoon in the pot as a weight your wife going have pealing spuds for weeks

Yes have not used the Lid that way but saw it done and it is one the reasons I like it, a thought I had is to Find someone to weld 4 little legs or some sort of Stand that doesn't bother the locking lid or access to the Clip for Fishmouth Spreader Handle. Thank you for the reply Dave, your video made me decide to get the MSR/Seagull 1.1L Stowaway pot due to the Emberlit wood stove fitting inside the pot. When I got the pot, I was wondering that it looked smaller compared to the video so I thought I maybe the Emberlit was the Fire Ant model. Anyways, I still can use my 1.1L pot for solo camps, and I'll gent the 1.6L later for camping with the wifey. Thanks again and looking forward to more videos. Do you know if the 1.1L version would fit into an alice 200 round pouch? I know its a pretty specific question but its for a kit im trying to make.
