- Deriving their name from the Sanskrit word for 'deception' or 'concealment,' the Thuggees were a notorious network of criminals and assassins that plagued parts of India from the 13th to the 19th centuries.
Often roaming the vast expanse of the Indian subcontinent, they are notorious for their brutal methods, especially in murdering and robbing unsuspecting travelers. Due to their structured operations and intricate internal codes, some historians have likened the Thuggees to early organized crime syndicates, even referring to them as a precursor to modern Mafias.
While they were a loose collection of various bands, the Thuggees had shared superstitions, rituals, and beliefs, characteristics often associated with religious cults.
Operating with cunning and deceit, Thuggees would typically befriend travelers, instilling trust before betraying them when least expected...
I saw a good documentary about the Thuggees once. They had a secret temple in a mine. I think they called it the Temple Of Doom. Where they would sacrifice people in a volcano, but would pull their victims hearts right out of their chest. Just before lowering them into the volcano. They also used child slaves to search for magic stones called the sankara stones. True story.
O mum she vy, o mum she vy, o mum she vy, o mum she vy
Pretty sure I saw that one too. If I'm thinking right, some guy with a whip from Indiana or something interrupted filming and they decided to leave it in.
Kali ma shuktida
I remember that documentary, had that college professor that wore that cool hat
That Doco also explained their progress and testing the worlds first rollercoaster .
9:05 I'm listening to this on my ear buds and I thought he said "flatulence." 😆
He's mumbling, too. That doesn't help lol.
There's a movie called. The deciverers with Pierce Bronson that is about the thuggees cult in the 1800's. It is worth the time to watch on you tube and is quite good and underappreciated movie when it came out. Thanks all!😃
Man I miss the intro. It plays in my head when i click on the video but then... nothing. :-/
Bes looks like a Blue Meanie from the Beatles film the Yellow Submarine
And Alister Crowley is on the yellow submarine cover.
Video subjects are getting better and better! Thanks 😊
I didn't choose the Thugee Life. The Thugee Life chose me.
💀..Always well researched..Always comprehensive..Always Intense, & Captivating..!!
stop bootlicking... They make a lot of mistakes...
@mikeypiros6647 💀..barely audible, barely discernible, fully irrelevant, inconsequential murmur, from thee un-enviable, embarrassingly illiterate pee-nut 🥜 gallery..("yawn..")🥱🤫
@mikeypiros6647 ..EVERYBODY DOES, Baby..!! Adversity is, after all, thee inimitable SPICE OV LIFE, Son..✌️🤥
THUGLIFE (THUGIES WEARING HUGGIES)
i don’t know why anybody is ever surprised that we have a long and rich history with psychedelic drugs. I guess it’s just people who’ve never done them that don’t get it
Thuggees was in the Indiana Jones and the temple of doom or they mentioned them, and little maharaja said it would never happen in his kingdom again
Cool video D5, interesting as always 👍👍
It sounds to me like the Cult of Mithra is still going strong in our current day, as well as back 2,000 years ago. Everything about them sounds exactly like Freemasonry.
LOL! My abusive alcoholic grandfather was a mason.Anything you can say to put those unfortunate people in their place is fine by me!
@@francisfischer7620 They have a very checkered past.
@@Quarks_BarI see what you did there 😂😂😂
@@Quarks_Bar rite under their feet...
Mithra preceded Christianity.
I don't even want to know what "female bodily fluids" were in that concoction hahahah
I went right for the comments when I heard that, lol
Probably just some fluids taken from a female body.
Most likely urin 🤢
Milk or blood
A shame to spoil them with other fluids.
Really fascinating
Love your content, but I need you to post an mp3 of your old intro so I can set is as my ring tone
Why did he get rid of it anyway?
@@redx4013it's not his,it belongs to the old dark channel..
The amount of cults in America alone is staggering.
look into Missing 411 Interviews with David Paulides.
@WorldV1ralDaily
I've watched both 911 video's with David's, but that's not what I was referring to.
We're a massive continent with huge, often unchecked swathes of land. Shit gets boring, and there's plenty of space to get weird.

Snakes and Demons. Believe or else.
And parades celebrating them. They are very prideful.
8:25 I love that sound that kicks in, really sets the mood.
We all worshiped Bez in early 90s Manchester
I still worship at the happy alter.
twistin my melon man
He’s gonna step on you again!
What?! Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom was based on history???🤯🤯🤯
All 3 of them are based on history.
Thank you
Bes, you have a new follower.
Don't drink the Bes coolaid.. 🤢🤮
I think Bez from the Happy Mondays may have been getting in touch we his roots all these years.
I've seen people walking (toting) around with a large cross. Although, I feel they may have missed something when they put wheels on the end to move it easier. Maybe its just me.
Ture sacrifice comes from self not from others
The Cult of Flatulence it seems is still with us
I knew I smelled extra beef
Great job on this video. Where is the intro music? That is my favorite part!
love me some Thuggee stories, them dudes were savage
and the main reason i dont really give people from that part of our world a hard time
the men typically look, on the surface, not so dangerous
but they ABSOLUTLY will pop off with some wicked shit
The Cult of Bes just sounds like a typical fandom
The five second sci-fi/mystery-esque intro really set the mood of Dark5 videos. Personally this channel lost one of its defining characteristics. Guess it was inconsequential to more people than not, but imo… Rule #32 Enjoy the Little Things 😢
I think that's mostly for the main channel.
cry about lmao 😂
I am with you. It is sad if most people didn't like it. I t was the main thing I could look forward to, even back in the OG days of no narration and I had to read it all.
It's still on the main channel, with this new channel they may not want the same intro as to show the difference between the channels.
I miss the intro tones 😂
Nevertheless
It was a cool video
Bez may have been an original name for Dionysis. He is one of the long-standing members of the Nephilum pantheon.
I also suspect Bez was the inspiration used for the aphrodisiac Horga'hn Statue from Star Trek's pleasure planet, Risa.
Don't forget Bez out of the Happy Mondays😂😂
@@davejackson5741😂you got here before me,well done 😂😂
I love your Quark picture and name! Live long and prosper! Francis

Many Filipino Catholic devotees performs religious penance in the belief that the practice of self-flagellation can cleanse sins, cure illness and even grant wishes.
If you can cleanse sins by beating yourself then what do you need Jesus for? Why even be Catholic?
Christ’s sacrifice was sufficient for all sin once and for all. There is no human effort that can improve it.
@@ValeriaZaragoza692yep. The Catholicism is full of hypocrisy and pagan beliefs.
@@ValeriaZaragoza692it is the Catholic belief that Jesus died to forgive us of original sin. Not just all sins, but most importantly to relieve those still awaiting to reach heaven and for future souls. It's why he decended into hell before he rose.
Its not to cleanse oneself of sin. That is not the real reason for this Holy, time tested and true to those who choose this practice of the old ways. The mystery of its power is known only to the iniated.@@ValeriaZaragoza692
Teach me how to thuggie!
Hhhheeeyyyyyy…
Errbody loves me Errbody Errbody loves me, can you teach me how to Thuggie.
during the Thuggees chapter... it's just me, or I hear Robert Miles "Children"?
That thumbnail is wild ,
Mithraism is some dark stuff.
I wonder if Bez was changed to Bastet over time as the description sounds almost exactly the same.
Hail Bast!!!
‘Number 1: thuggish ruggish bone’
Love the videos but I'm missing the intro
Fascinating content. But labeled chapters* would be helpful. Thanks for posting.
*with time stamps
Is a 10:59 video too long for you?
@@User31129 Never heard of skipping a chapter, or scrubbing to a specific chapter to rewatch it or to draw attention to that chapter when you share a link? The ability to create chapters exists for a reason. Anything else you'd like to troll about? 😏
You’re lazy😂
@@Find.list.ship66 Nope. Just partial to organization.
(Excellent channel)
Hope you've had a pleasant weekend. 🙂👍❤️
My extra ordinary day just became extrodinary!
Mithras was the subject of a TV series set in the future by the name of “Raised by Wolves”. Supposedly a stand in for Christianity the Mithras cult was used instead so as not to offend large parts of the audience. Another creature-feature by Ridley Scott.
RIP. It was a great original show. Sad they didn't get to finish it...
Mithras birthday is still celebrated every December 25. Look it up.
It seems fully human to attempt to acquire gods who will go along with anything we want to do.
The Arabian Neolithic mustatils remind me of the causeways found at many European Neolithic sites, such as Stonehenge.
I kept hearing "Flatulence".🤪
The narrator has an interesting voice~ besides that, this was very interesting.
Thuggee life 😮
All better far better the cults we are dealing with today.
8:49 this is in London, UK, right in the middle of a business district under the ground
I once carried a large cross through my home town with a few friends from youth group. I ended up carrying it for a mile or so . I absolutely destroyed my shoulder and haven’t been the same since..
we were just trying to spread the gospel man.
Followers of Bez, are often depicted with maracas. They have wide bugged eyes and one urban myth says they have the ability to twist melons.
Also the mind bending substances and the ability to forget everything over the course of a weekend.
Put the intro back
Please explain the thumbnail photo
Flagellation is a Fetish, not a Aspect of Religious Faith.
Nope , just Google religious flagellation
Bring back the theme music!
i'm HRAC and i self-flagellate a couple times a year, not that uncommon, my grandad used to do it too
It's good to get clarity of thought
Scientists were "Shocked" to find mind-altering drugs? Based on the history, what did they expect to find? Chocolate milk?
That’s why they outlaw marijuana and coca plant… these plants have benefits that the super rich only want access to… now back to work you peasant
Now this is simulating 4:13
You guys should do one on the White City of Monkey God of upper Amazon. Considering recently a shrine to Monkey God was recently found in jungles of Columbia. Though media called it the White City, researches didn't calling it a Shrine around a hot spring probably used for religious purposes. The only strange thing is the waters of the Shrine are filled with venomous snakes from few different species. But the snakes appear to be loaded with a virulent and aggressive parasite. So aggressive some team members got infected and the whole expedition abandoned the site to get everyone to a hospital. As they fear they may have contracted the parasite, which seemed to eventually kill the snakes. Thankfully one few contracted it and anti-parasite meds did kill it, but its believed to have been a new species of blood/gut parasite that lives in water. But without treatment the doctors at the hospital said the parasite could be fatal as they already saw signs of the parasite attack the team members liver and kidneys aggressively. Which could have been fatal if untreated, turns out to the local Native peoples of the region, who do know of Monkey God and the White City, even they don't know where the city is. Know of the parasite, they called it curse of Monkey God and why the Monkey Gods sites are to be avoided. As in local legend the handful of pre-Columbian cities in upper Amazon that worshipped the Monkey God including the White City, offended the Monkey God some how. With the parasite being the curse upon the people of those cities and any sites of worship. For the Monkey God wanted nothing more to do with Man.
These groups have something in common, they believe their god is not ‘good’ and requires acts of evil.
Bez aka David the Gnome
I had never heard of thugees until about six years ago, playing Lego Indiana Jones with my son.
T Huggies. If you know, you know
Bes not Bez.
The Flag-gel-ants not the "flatulence". What's going on?
Twist in my Mellon man !
9 is the Avro car Canadian made for the usa.
3:30 - SHOCKED! SHOCKED I SAY! Well not that shocked but still shocked. Maybe surprised? SURPRISED! SURPRISED I SAY!
They're still here.
How the hell is that video starting with group from 13th-19th century since there's a word "ancient" in the title?
Were the Flagellants the origin of the phrase ‘whipping the crowd into a frenzy’?
They sure were the origin of BDSM
@@dragonfox2.058 Nah - just enthusiastic participants.
Gosh dang Thugees
The Mithraism sounds similar freemasonry. 🤔
8:59. Hedonistic.
Why are scientist always surprised to find psychoactive substances in pottery etc? Humans historically were expanding ones mind with some kind of local substances.
I was looking for the thugges that would kill themselves to gain access to the other world and leave this one behind. I saw a video on that and came find it. Anyone can confirm this. Let me know thanks
Flagellants may not be entirely gone from the scene. Pope John Paul II practiced it according to some reports.
Like the British needed any excuses to do anything at that time.🤣
or.... Egyptians just liked to get high
3:35 - highly doubtful; sounds like B.S.
Mithras birthday is still celebrated every December 25. Look it up.
❤❤❤those people who worship mahakali r not cults it is the form of goddess Parvati 😍😍😍Goddess parvati has numerous forms man...
scientists shocked about ancient uses of drugs, thats kinda calling the kettle black, ya?
"Whip The Thugee Guards!"
Think it’s pronounced “Tugees” - a hard ‘T’ sound rather than ‘Th’ ...
Like 'Tug Boat' - so Tug Gees?
BOOGIE WOOGIE WOOGIE NIKKA 😂😂😂😂🎉 Signed Clayton Bixby 😎
I talk to my diary
Bez looks an awful lot like the dmt elves
Thuggies is such a cute name! 😂
I dont trust anything anymore
Listening to this narrator on 2x speed. I mean, since he speaks so quickly anyway, why not pump it up to plaid speed!?
Lol thugees looking for them Sankara stones 😂😂
All the info on Mithras, but no mention of where it originated. "Mithras" is obviously not even Latin. The cult was a transplant from Persia, brought in and adhered to by the Roman legions.
Do not swear let your ya be yea and your nay be nay
Bes sounds like the collage stoner that wont get mad

The thuggees are exactly what you’d expect.
Thugees were religious and sacrificed people only without spilling there blood, that was for Kali to consume.
More outsiders not to trust
