    Joni is a genius, poet, painter, singer song writer with a beautiful voice. It blows my mind that all that talent can be wrap up in person and yet some of us can hardly walk and chew bubble gum at the same time, amazing. Such a special talent.

    I am so glad you are exploring Joni Mitchell, her music ranges from folk>Pop>Jazz over the years with incredible songs from each era. Her lyrics are as phenominal as her voice.
    This song is about her break-up with fellow musician Leonard Choen back in the day. The woman mentioned in the third verse refers to his mother.
    Joni is playing the dulcemer and James Taylor comes in on the acoustic guitar.

    Hands down one of the most beautifully written songs ever, beautiful melody, beautiful voice, beautiful instrumentation and excellent lyrics and story telling. To borrow and paraphrase one of her lines in the song, it "touches the soul" everytime I listen to it!

    OMG....it sounds like she's playing a dulcimer, or hammer dulcimer as we call it over here! That's a bluegrass instrument, and bluegrass is a pretty big deal where I live. It's amazing to think that she took that instrument WAY beyond its original boundaries and created this work of art. You can't go wrong with reacting to Joni. "Chelsea Morning" is an absolute gem: I think you'll really like it.

    Very good reaction!!! Please continue being yourself!!! I would like to recommend that you react to a beautiful ballad titled: "Cloudy" (the Live version @) by the Average White Band (AWB)...It is not a video but it was recorded Live on their "Person To Person" Live Album... Hamish Stuart (from Scotland) sings the lead part with such a soulful sound that he gives you somewhat of a Marvin Gaye flavor & vibe...It's a song he wrote & dedicated it to his daughter, as he felt their relationship drifting apart and he didn't want that to happen!!!

    I know you did Both Sides Now from the 60's but you might want to do a 2'fer. Watch her live in 1970 in her early 20's ua-cam.com/video/bcrEqIpi6sg/v-deo.html and then in 2000 in her 50's. It is inspiring. ua-cam.com/video/tKQSlH-LLTQ/v-deo.html I love the way she moves. Playing the guitar, the piano, the zither, or just standing there she has this groovy little sway in her shoulders.

    For a completely different side of Joni: The Dry Cleaner from Des Moine. The album version is definitive: ua-cam.com/video/pjpIq9NE-x0/v-deo.html (but there's also a live version around, which takes it further into pure improvisational jazz.)

    • @lolpopcorn1000
      @lolpopcorn1000 4 роки тому

      "Twisted" is a great song and Joni does an excellent version. In the interest of giving credit where it's due, though, let the record show (smile) that "Twisted" was actually written in the 40's by the great tenor saxophonist Wardell Gray and the words that Joni sings were put to the tune in the early 50's by vocalist Annie Ross. It's worth doing a UA-cam search for "Wardell Gray Twisted" and "Annie Ross Twisted Live". Just sayin'!
      P.S. I love, love, love Joni Mitchell!

  • @michaelpiscal4760
    @michaelpiscal4760 2 роки тому

    This is a song you need to listen to 100 times before you understand it all. It's that good. Keep going into Joni. She far surpasses her lover - the wonderful Graham Nash who loved her with all his heart, and is a better song writer if not singer of his bandmates Stephen Stills, and David Crosby, and I think is at least the equal of Neil Young. But beyond the Laurel Canyon crowd, I cast around and over the pond to find Joni Mitchell's equal. John Lennon? Paul McCartney? Paul Simon? She is in the conversation. Dylan? She did not get along with Bob. But we ain't here to worry about the squabbling of the greats - only to marvel at their wondrous songs.

    There is no guitar in her beginning, this is a dulcimer; you are not familiar with stringed instruments ( nor the Canadian National Anthem ) nor real music, nor decent writing. I feel sorry for a world that has turned so crude and souless and artless... James Taylor comes later in to add some fills, but you hear his distinctive melody lines and chords in back of her dulicimer....the greatest generation of folk singer songwriters left for the crudest children that ever were raised a compendium of incredible songs that are "pearls before swine."
