Wowwww!! Short stories are my favourite!! None of my favourites made it to the list though. I strongly recommend these stories you'd remember them for as long as you live.. warna paise wapas!!
    1. The three hermits by Tolstoy
    2. The lottery by Shirley jackson
    3. Lighthouse keeper of aspenwall by Henry Sienkiewicz
    4. Time stops at shamli by Ruskin bond.
Yet to watch the botcast though. Anticipating bliss.. :)

This was wonderful! Thank you guys:) Ruskin Bond takes me back to all the summer vacations in Mussourie. Everytime life gets too busy or heavy I go back to his writing to read about mountains, nature, animals and children. Simple beautiful writing!

I love your podcasts! This very one reminds me of the Sudha Murthy short stories and novellas that I read while in school. And hey! you can access the older stories from the New Yorker fiction through podcasts. They have their channel where many writers such as Rushdie, Annie Proulx and many others read those stories and discuss about it and the author. It is indeed a treat, and it introduced me to Italo Calvino whose cynical short stories I've been loving ever since.

Really guys this was one of the best episodes so far, as I am in my college i haven't read much of short stories from past 2 years and had almost forgot how i loved them in my school days especially we had a book in class 12 named Flamingo and Snapshots which was again a collection of short stories. Hopefully, after I finish my ongoing book, I have to check out a lot of suggestions mentioned in the video

This just reminded me of my school days!! 😍😍😍 How I used to love hindi and english literature in school!! But now I kinda don't like short stories!! Maybe because they are not the classics that I used to read!! But as your video started, I picked up my Malgudi days.....I had it but haven't read it yet!! And I had this from years!! Hope will enjoy it!! :)

A contemporary short story collection I adore is Leigh Bardugo's 'The Language of Thorns'. These are folklore-ish tales set in the same universe her fantasy novels are set in, but you don't need to read the novels in order to enjoy this collection. They're a wierdly wonderful mix of russion tales and the fairytales we know and love( the little mermaid, the nutcracker), but with a spin. I also love Franz Kafka's short stories! I very recently discovered his writing, and itd beautiful!

Am trying to see if the reader in me will emerge after watching these BotCast... I used to be a great reader doing volumes in shortest time possible. From romantic to historical to whatever I can lay my arms. I remember how I finished all crimes volumes of one author and went in search for more but non available... Maybe hooking up with non fiction reading because of studies has discouraged me a lil because nowadays I read but struggle through what used to be two days read for me. Am getting some inspiration from these beautiful people... Hey your guest is cute... 😂. Thanks guys you doing a great job.

    Episode idea/request: Architecture!
Fiction/non fiction books that celebrate real/imaginary historical/futuristic architecture or structures or design as the actual theme or backdrop of the book.
(Fun fact - I am in The Fountainhead hangover😝. The book garners a spectrum of emotions, fascination for architecture was one of the positive ones. )

Does anyone remember the creepy story in the panchatantra with a blind man, a hunchback and lady with three breasts. The blind man swings the hunchback, he bumps into her chest, pushing the third breast in, and the hunchback is not hunched anymore as he bumps onto her with his back!! super weird! As a kid, I was super confused because of this story.

Loved this episode. Short stories are my favourite form of literature, in that a small concept by the author is given fruition. The school textbooks point was a pang of nostalgia. We had Balbharti (Yay SSC board!) and one Radiant Reader, where you would get slightly better form of stories. The stories in the Marathi Balbharti were good too. Hindi one not so much though.
Neil Gaiman's collections are fantastic. I esp love 'Orange' by him, for that's a narrative structure you've never seen anywhere. Also, after one of the Botcasts, I read Saki's short stories and they are so funny. The language is archaic but the humour is on point. Suggested read : 'The East Wing'.
Sidenote: I am a short story writer myself. You can read my musings at thetafiction.com

Sumit Shetty I loved Marathi balbharati too. I have studied in Marathi medium. It introduced me to many renowned authors and poets in Marathi literature and provided sample of their writing. I still remember a short story titled " Smashanatla Sona" in our 10th standard text book. Gives me goosebumps even today. Can't remember the author though.

Books on Toast DOES NOT care about me. Asked them a question. They read it. Never answered. You know how bad it feels? You should know.
