LEGO Technic 4x4 X-Treme Off-Roader 42099 Reviewed! Is it that bad?

  • The LEGO Technic 4x4 X-Treme Off-Roader 42099 is the first set that came with the Control+ system in a LEGO Technic set, also known as the Powered Up system. Is this set really that bad? Or is it actually a decent off roader? And most importantly, is it better than the LEGO Technic 4x4 Crawlers we got back in the power functions era?

    this set is extremely expensive, but for AFOL and MOCers specialized into vehicles (like me) literally every single piece is gold. planetary hubs and reinforced joints alone are a dream come true and can take a lot of abuse even from buwizz...they have the most efficient reduction (and most robust connections) for transmissions available, and at the moment is the only set that has them. but also minor things, from useful connectors and pieces which last but not leastt came not in clowny colours. an unforgivable missing for me is not indicating on the instructions the three gear ratio you can obtain by simply switching few gears, with the educational purpose of explaining torque and speed or setting it to your preference.

    As much as I like legos, for the price you can get and modify a hobby grade crawler if you really want to crawl around and get that experience. In terms of lego sets, its pretty awesome though.

    • @Unbrickme
      @Unbrickme  3 роки тому

      Yeah I agree, for the same price you can get a hobby grade RC airplane for example, and get tons more for the value. All lego sets are really overpriced compared to other toys though.

      It's certainly expensive, but also pretty cool to think of all the different vehicles you could make with the kit. I love my RC crawlers (and real one) but Legos just allow an ease and freedom not found many other places

    The LEGO 42099 is a great LEGO technique.

    Mode 1: throttle on the right, steering on the left.
    Mode 2: throttle on the left, steering on the right.
    In the professional RC hobby world these are the definitions of where things are located, specifically for aviation. What you are accustom to is generally determined by where you are in the world. Here in the US most everybody flies mode 2. New Zealand typically flies mode 1. In the old days, RC car remote controls looked just like today’s aviation controls, before they went to trigger style remotes. Nonetheless, the same vocabulary applies.
