***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 3 new videos every week! Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

I don’t garden, I have no animals, I’ve never canned nor milked a goat!!! Yet I look forward to every video you post. The life you are living and sharing with your viewers is so so much more than homesteading!!! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Am i goofy that I'm so eccited for your family to get Hope?? I love that you care so much for all of your animals and your trees. I respect that.
Every time I see these short tiny little goats I say "AAAWWWWW! How cute!" I never had the dwarf type goats. These are just adorable!
Thank you .love love love
That divider is called a creep feeder by horse people. They use it to allow a foal to get in for their meal when they first start to eat grain but keep the mare out.
So neat to see the animals.
You guys are incredible adorable!!
Those are some healthy looking chickens!
I love watching the ducks run out of there house across the yard to their food.
I love these videos! I so look forward to them at the end of my work day! I noticed the ducks ate All friends now! One flock instead of 2 ,warms my heart. I love watching your homestead evolve! God Bless your family always!❤
Ducks "are" not ate! My phone always auto correct s that ugh!
We met Ben and Andrea last spring and they truly are a sweet family!!! I know you will enjoy you time visiting with them. Congrats on finding a new cow!! Thanks for sharing so many tips and advice!!🤗
Pig weighing tip is great!!
Ty valuable information on entire video.
I love watching u let the ducks out in the morning. Makes me giggle everytime!!
Two great homesteading families getting together! Have a blast.
I absolutely LOVE the VW Family Farm folks...Ben, Andrea and the kids are just such wonderful people. So excited to see you guys interacting. Oh I’d give just about anything to hang out and fellowship with all of you. You guys have a safe and FUN trip. TFS!! God Bless ~Lisa
Love pig math!!!!!
Homesteaders all over America need to start a home-swap vacation organization. That way you could work out a trade for a week, or whatever, do the chores in the morning and evening, and go sight-seeing during the day. Hope you enjoyed the day off. Those ducks running for breakfast never gets old. 😊
I love watching videos where people are letting their animals out but I'd also like to see a video of people putting their animals up at night
Awesome guys! Great video.
Ben and Andrea are awesome.
Really great ideas you two!
Kevin, that goatee is intense. Well done.
Love you guys. My granddaughter also watched you feed your animals today. She is 3.
You might want to add ply wood to the bottom half of your barn to keep the cow from kicking a hole in your metal. Which leads to vet bills. So excited about you getting a cow.
GOOD VIDEO!!!!!
The duck are hilarious. Lol
Wow turkeys are getting so big
I love watching the ducks come out each morning. So enthusiastic to start their day.
We all need to live life like the ducks!😍😍😍💜💜💜😊😊
Theyre SO CUTE!
I wish I was so energetic in the morning!
I so want a batch of Indian Runners!😍😍😍😍
@@sylviatolan1814 lol. I felt ur comment in my SOUL!😂😂
Im not particularly a morning person either... especially if I don't get my much needed sleep(which happens to often cuz I live in an apartment complex😌). Lol. I'ma grouch.
They make me laugh. They have a mission and are all about it!
Good morning Sarah & Kevin. I love watching your morning chores and the all the information on each type of farm animals and their shelter.
I love watching the both of you construct your raised bed greenhouse. Plus you cooking or preserving food.
I love watching sensible people building structures that are well thought out and planned for. I'm so glad your cow/goat shed is not a jerry rigged thing. Its been a pleasure to watch it come together. (I do most things jerry rig due to cost but always wanted to do it with stronger materials.
I like seeing the ducks come out follow ya'll .
You have a beautiful homestead!
You are such a hard working folks !!! Kevin ,,,, I am always amazes at how you come up with solutions to things !!! Love your channel !
I always chuckle when the ducks come out. They are so ready for breakfast and a new day.
The chicken had a sleepover with the turkey lol
All those animals are getting big looks like to me
Heeeyyy! What about the rabbits? I wanna see the bunnies! All the animals look great! 😁🌵🌵🌵
Always love the ducks
Those ducks quack me up 😂
It is great seeing the progress of your Homestead. I am anticipating the arrival of Hope. Going to be exciting.
You guys have the Olympic Turkeys 🌷🦃🦃🦃🌷
Her is an idea. We bought a taller water tub for our dairy cow and attached a section of cattle panel across the top of it. Then cut a hole in the panel for the cow to drink through. The panel prevents chickens from flying up there and drowning but also keeps our goats out.
I think the ducks were very hungry by the way they took off at a dead run !! So funny 😁
Lol at the chicken coming out with the turkeys
Hanky panky goin on.
Great video! What thought you have put into taking the best care of all your animals! Great idea on the chicken wire for saving your trees! Thanks as always in showing how you do things...we have learned and continue to learn SO much!
Everything looks so nice! All the animals looking healthy and happy; especially the ducks! I just love those guys. Yum, turkey dinner! A favorite of mine and I'm guessing, of yours too! Blessings to you and the girls from Louisiana, Missouri!
Those blue barrels might be just the right size for your trees. Cut the bottom and top off and cut it open down one side - stretch it open and wrap it around your tree.
I wish there had been more videos of your garden this season. Your gardens are always so lush and abundent. I need the inspiration!
You should make sure your metal building is well grounded in case of lightning. If the animals are in there and lightning hits the roof, it will carry all the way to ground. We lost a goat that way years ago. A ground rod and a piece of #6 wire is cheap insurance.
Good idea. I sure hope they do that.
I looked decently grounded, but running a specific ground wire would be smarter i'm sure! especially if standing water is a concern.
Had a horse struck while standing under a metal loafing shed. She didn't die, but she never was 'right' again. Kind of slow on the uptake after that. She also got burned and the hairs that grew in were white in a zig-zag along her neck, so we called her "Lightning". I still can't remember what her original name was. She passed of old age after being an excellent (and bomb-proof) kid trainer for many years. I guess after you've survived being struck by lightning, nothing scares you.
I had to wire a piece of 2x4 onto the edge of the horse's water trough, which floated on the water, & would go up & down with the water level, to provide an escape for squirrels, after a squirrel nearly drowned in the water.
Looks like the hen did well sleeping with the turkeys! It was funny watching it come out and seeing your reaction, Sarah!
I thought you explained the hole thing 20 episodes ago. I understand re explaining for new people. You all are amazing!
Everyone could use a change of scenery, if even for the day, every now and then. Granted, you will be at another farm, learning more about farming, but you will still be driving instead of working. Everything is looking good there for the animals. The ducks crack me up when they race out of the shelter and run over to the feeders.
I love the ducks!!!!
Put a small roof over the goat water trip to prevent Cow from drinking up their water.
I really really enjoy when y'all let all the animals out for breakfast!
Blessings
Thanks for sharing everything, y’all are truly so inspirational. 👍🏻👍🏻💜🤗❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👵🏼
i think build a berm across the front and make a ridge to divert water each way to skirt around the shelter keeping it dryer inside.
in the goat only area of the barn, why not add add some ledges for them to climb onto and to get away from the wet floor. These can be lined with straw for extra warmth.. If you are worried about the milking area, raise the dividing fence
I've been watching yall for a while now. Congratulations on all of your hard work. Your homestead is beautiful and productive. Great job!
Loving the upside down vinegar jug cut into a food scoop. I also save my vinegar jugs for our spring water once its filtered we store the water in them.
Cows will chew the trees too. Especially Mulberry!
Yall are my hillbilly movie stars. I love your videos. You're a great family.
I have seen all your videos I like them God bless you and your farm
I agree with you about the Winsons.
The wire will be very goid to save your trees. Our boar goats LOVED the bark of our cedar trees. We put T-posts out around the trees and they worked without problems for 5 years. A neighbor asked to let him put some small cedar trunks he cut for fence poles in the goat pasture. A few days later he came by and rolled the logs over. After several days all the bark was off the logs and they were ready for the purpose he wanted them for. Goats were happy and he was happy. Just a thought in case you ever think you would like to use some of your small trees as lumber or fencing.
Haha that hen went to a party at the turkey's coop and stayed.....PeeWee is like, "umm dude I'm not getting tricked by you" hahaha!! Animals are so cool to watch.
Goats browse. Either build fort knox to pen them up or stop caring about the trees. Goats LOVE trees.
Nice shed! Yeah, our goats were stupidly afraid of our cows and ran from them. I hope yours adjust better.
Love watching your videos. Every video you guys publish is full of useful info. Our little urban homestead will be growing in the next 6 months or so. We currently have 14 chickens and breeding rabbits for meat. We will be moving soon to a little bit more land and plan to have goats. Look forward to more of your great videos to help us with ideas along the way. Thank you.
Our goats only girdle small trees. We cut them fresh pine to de bark about every three weeks in winter. The turpines help with deworming. When they girdle smaller trees, we cut them for them t eat the leaves. Best wishes
I'm not sure those goats won't look like they are wearing braces before they realize that chicken wire isn't supposed to be eaten, lol. Great segment, thanks!
VW Family are great.
Great looking homestead. Animals all looking healthy & happy. Can you use that weight measurement trick with any animal? Chicken in the turkey house! LOL
If you do deep bedding in winter, the space at the bottom of the barn will not be an issue. Our barn is like that too.
Oh great my very favorite.. the duck run
Suggestion--put one or two Black Mollies in each water tank to control mosquitoes. In the north we use feeder goldfish because they can survive the winter freeze where mollies can't. In the south the mollies can survive the summer heat where the goldfish can't.
FYI, that formula for pigs does NOT equate to people. I tried, for fun.
Thanks for a laugh!
You can put some lumber over the cow's trough to prevent the goats from falling into it, but with enough spacing that the cow can drink from it!
Love the sounds of nature in your video too. Looking forward to meeting the cow
Great work guys! I love watching your progress and learn more. I also love VW farms channel. Great family too. So glad you guys become good friends. I’m sure they will be able to give you a few tips about raising a cow. Good luck with your new cow!
If you're doing rain catchment into a trough you might consider adding a guppy or two to take out mosquito larvae. The mosquito abatement officer in Phoenix will add 4 guppies to neglected pools for that purpose.
Good info, I never thought about that.
Good to know thanks for that info
Nice tip!
Guppies are tropical fish. They'll die in the winter. Would you not be better with goldfish.
No mosquitoes in winter.
(please forgive the flip answer)
A boyhood friend kept goldfish in a backyard fountain and had to bring them in in the winter, but NY could freeze the two feet that zoning permitted. You could bring the guppy in (many guppies if they mated or one went in pregnant) Under no circumstances should a goldfish be released into the wild being an invasive species where they can survive.(and cruel where they can't) For a few minutes there I couldn't remember if carp(goldfish) ate mosquitoes but the friends fish did.
Miss Hennie is a hussy for sleeping with those turkeys, ha!! I wonder if y'all know how many live vicariously thru you and your farm? I know I do and much thanks for taking us along for I love watching your farm grow! Blessings ~Sidney
I can't count how many feedbag strings, hay & strawbale strings, tags, and other stuff I've pulled out of the washing machine after going thru the wash. I'm always forgetting stuff in my pockets. LoL ;-)
I love the chickens.
Your videos are so enjoyable.🙏❤️🙏
Great info. I needed to know that about the goats eating the bark. Thank you. 🌸
It always makes me laugh when I watch your ducks as you let them out. You can practically hear a bell ring and an announcer start "And we're off to the races! Da-da-dun da-da-dun da-da-dun dun! DUN!" 💓💛💚💙💜
Hi, your Ozarks neighbor here. In your spare time ( hahaha as if) goats love little platforms to lay on. Made out of simple solid top pallets which are so cheap. Even getting regular spaced pallets stacked in different levels with the solid top one on top of the stacks in the barn they would love to sleep and play on. Love you guys. @mybittersweetfarm
You'll want to put some rock/small pea gravel or a slab down where you are milking. Considering the rain you are talking about, you also don't want it to be a mess to try to milk in, also if she poo's and pee's in there, you want to be able to clean it easily. Hard to do with a dirt floor. Slab would be ideal. Just my 2 cents, looking great.
The pigs look wonderful. The ducks are duckie!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀😀😀.looking forward to your cow.
Have a great time on your trip and have Ben teach you about the bees too. :)
I love your ducks
I love I'm not the only one who wishes their chickens a good morning & talks to their chickens. Mine know their names & "no" & I love love love it!
Great video as usual!
Enjoy your family road trip.
Kevin. The way you look at those turkeys. Basted in seasoned butter, stuffing and gravy. And then cranberry sauce with a side of mashed potato's. And then a piece of pie. Oh well.....
Sitting here at 6:55 am. Just got the kids ready and off to school(at 6:12! Today is a record! Huzzah!),now I'm drinking a cup of coffee and watching my favorite folks let out animals of adorableness!
Can my day get ANY better?!😊💜
Back when I kept goats I put four t-posts around a tree needing protection then strung 4-5 foot dog wire to posts. I do same now to protect fruit trees from deer.
Greetings from northwestern Arkansas! You are both so attractive and conversationally engaging, more so than other homesteaders on UA-cam. Really enjoying your videos!
