Really enjoy your coverage on the practical approach to the types of jobs most of us find ourselves doing at some point. Good work!
Thanks so much Curtis! Really glad you liked the video. Always good seeing you stop by 🙌
As a fellow OC resident, I’m pretty proud to have come across this video and see how well you laid everything out for us. Thanks for sharing Griffin! This was super helpful! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
An absolutely fantastic breakdown here Griffin, just what I was looking for! So much detail and great to see a combination of the final shots and bts.
Thanks so much James! Really appreciate that and glad you liked it
Once again, solid content Griffin! I really like that cross key set up, looks really good. I also appreciate the budget set up advice too. Can't wait for the next video!
Your the man Jordan! Appreciate you checking the video out!
I love how you set you camera for the interview, lighting on point, Audio on point. Thank you for taking the time to breaking down the interview setup.
YES! More this.
For sure!
I can’t thank you enough. As a photographer for 23 years, I’ve been thrown into video 5 years ago for Biz Journal jobs. I wiggled my way into a DP role for a crew that got COVID and I just was rehired by the same director for another shoot. I was able to rent a ton of gear I’ve never used before and it’s you and Epic Light Media’s videos that have given me a look into proper video production. Cheers! Also, I freaking love it!
That’s so awesome! I was in the same boat! I transitioned from photography in to video and was sort of thrown in the ring to try my hand at things. Stoked you got some value out of the video! Let me know if you are looking for some videos in the future that would be helpful
@@GriffinConway A photographer as well, that’s awesome. Yeah, I mean, anything with matching 3 cams white balance or technical in-depth C-log tips would rock. Last year I upgraded to two R5s from shooting 5D 3 for the longest time. ROI on point. I use two Atomos Ninjas V witch seems to work well enough for now. Either way, I’ll be tuning in. 🤘🏼
Thank you so much for so much details packed into this video. This was super helpful. Especially when you broke down what we could do on a minimalist budget. Appreciate your help.
Thanks Harsh! Super glad you found it helpful! Let me know if you have any video ideas for me to make in the future
The best mentor ever, thanks for all the tips my dude. You're helping me out so much
Thanks so much Omar! Appreciate the kind words my bro
Great one man! Probably the first good tutorial on 2 person interview I found!
Thank you for the content. I had a last minute job dropped in my lap today and this gave me some extra advice that helped me out. thank you guys
Great video as always, Griffin! Always appreciate your insight and tips. I'm going to have to adopt the lantern light approach.
Thanks Cory! The lantern is a great light source for sure! Two person interviews, one person interviews, ambient room lighting...works great for a lot of things!
Bravo!! What a professional work Griffin!! Thanks!!
Just found this...SO GOOD! Especially the lighting diagrams. Also, love your approach with all your gear. I shoot with 2 canon C100s so I don't have the luxury of 4k but the results are still really good. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your input . This helps me with my project. Keep it coming man.
This was super helpful Griffin! Straight to the point with visuals! love it!
That’s always the goal! Glad you enjoyed it John!
Another great video bro. Truly informative and enjoyable.
Thank you! I’m loving your content!
Thank you for making a very important, often not talked about video. I’m literally going to apply this technique to an upcoming shoot.
That’s great! Glad to hear it will be helpful for you!
Very solid setup - super impressed that you stayed on top of all of that on your own. Just goes to show what you can achieve being organised and having systems along with the skills and experience. I like that you've shared a more minimal setup too, that's really interesting to compare. One thing you didn't comment on was whether you think the setup you went for worked for the contributors in front of camera. Not sure what type of interviews you were doing but I often find there's a trade off between production value (in terms of scale of setup) and authenticity of performance from contributor. Not sure how much of an issue this is in the US where people seem to like being in front of camera but in the UK people get pretty weirded out by lights and cameras and tend to clam up. I guess the minimal crew helps a bit. Anyways maybe that's a topic for another video! Thanks for sharing your work!
That’s definitely a great topic. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video. Because of who the talent was for the interview, I felt they were mostly comfortable being in front of the camera and the big setup didn’t bother them too much. I definitely know what you mean and there have been times where I scrapped high production quality for more authenticity. I can think of one specific instance in on a doc shoot I was on, and the subject had just gone through a tough loss. Even though the situation could have benefitted from a light, in the moment it felt more natural to just crank up the iso and get the true emotion. I’ll keep that in mind for future videos!
Dude this is so much wisdom in one video. Thanks.
Super practical & informative episode...thanks so much for posting this Griffin!
Glad you like it. I’ve got a few more tutorial style videos coming in the future!
Thank you for helpful demo. The footage looks great!
Thanks! You were the only two person set I could find!
OC in the house! Good stuff Griffin, greetings from Irvine!
High quality and great as always1
Thanks a lot Kev!
a really good one, thank you so much. exactly what i was looking for. now i feel ready for my next 2 person interview project !
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Another awesome video man! Thanks for filling in the gaps 👌
Thanks for watching Christopher!
Great content brother! I have a 4 person interview coming up and I believe these principles remain the same. Much love from East TN🙏🏼
Super helpful, thanks man!
Thanks man. Running a two-person interview alone tomorrow and this helps as a gut-check that I've got the right setup. I've been planning to do cross-key lighting with two Amaran 200d lights and a Godox UL-150 for the fill so I'm glad to see that your setup looked so nice. Hopefully I'll be able to lock in something similar.
awesome Chase glad you liked the video, and good luck with your setup!
My favorite DP of all time. Great vid brotha. Thanks again for the collab GRIFF!!
Your the man Justin! Looking forward to working / hanging more soon my bro
Good job man. Much appreciated. I understood every word. Really appreciate the alternate suggestions with examples.
That’s awesome Jeffrey! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Clear explanations and examples.
Was really happy to see how you used the lantern (that's how I found this vid). I have the 300d, so I think I'll be adding the lantern to my arsenal soon.
Great insight and practical advice. It’s nice to see channels like yours and mine giving helpful information instead flashy tips that aren’t so useful.
That’s what I try to go for...real world stuff from actual paid client work. Thanks for stopping by the channel. I actually watched a video of yours a while back where you went through a whole interview setup at a basketball court. Great stuff man!
Great video as always!! For the last shot with one light, would it be better to have the lantern behind (and center) the subjects giving you the darker side to the camera? And possibly use two reflectors (one on each behind them) to bounce the light back to them?
Thanks for this video, it’s very informative! I have a two person interview coming up ⬆️ and this is spot on…
This was very helpful. Thanks for sharing the pro setup as well as the budget setup. Kudos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Funny story, so I'd never heard of cross key lighting before but I was tasked with filming a 2 person interview setup and we only have 2 lights (plus a smaller LED panel). I decided on something similar to this in my head and actually came across this video in the Aputure user group and sure enough, the lighting scenario I came up with in my head is actually a thing! I was a little worried at first because I wasn't given much time to test it out ahead of time but I was really happy that I came across this video as well as a couple of other videos on cross key lighting because it took some of the trial and error out of the equation. There were a few flaws I had with my original plan and it helped me get to a pretty solid final look so thank you so much for taking the time to make this! Subbed!
That’s awesome! So glad this video was helpful for you, and thanks for sharing your story!
Awesome content ❤️
I like that this is very budget friendly for anyone just starting out 👍
Heck ya brother! Awesome setup and loved the walkthrough!
Thanks so much Tyler! Always appreciate you stopping by my bro!
Really informative...I liked the diagrams and how you even covered media organization. As someone just getting more into commercial work I've found your channel a huge help. Thanks!
Thanks a lot Chris! Any specific videos you might want to see in the future? I’m always looking for new video ideas
Griffin Conway If you use a color chart or color checker I’d like to see a video on using on properly and then how it’s used in post. Another idea is lighting a “scene” in an entire room. For example I had my subject yesterday filling up feed bucket at a horse farm. She was in a room and I was a bit lost on how to light the room.
So solid.
Thank you!
wooo! Nice one as always Griffin.
Thanks so much!
I really enjoyed this video
It's a great idea. I really wanted these information. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tutorial, very helpful in planning an upcoming 2 person interview. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome glad you liked it and found it helpful!
This visual is a life-saver! Gotta shoot a two person interview soon and don't have access to a multi-cam or multi-light setup. Those low budget tips will be very. helpful!
That’s so good to hear! Glad it could help. Let me know how it goes!
awesome video. thanks griffin! i'm a subscriber now :)
A lot of Master Yoda knowledge and tips in this one ;-) Solid video with a lot of practical infos. Thks for sharing 👌🏻
Thanks a lot!
Thanks so much, all very useful, but particularly the diagrams for lighting!
Glad to hear that! Thanks for checking it out
Great video! Thank you man!
Thank you Gabris!
*_Really the best image quality in the entire youtube ...which camera/lens are you using? I have to watch all your videos...really very pleasant look_*
This was helpful. Thank you!
great video bro. thank you
very helpful! thank you!!
that was great thanks man!!
Great tips!!!! Practicing tomorrow with 2 M50’s as my B and C camera’s...gonna use a 90d as the A. All using Technicolor Cinestyle. Just worries about the lighting......
Great work Griffin
Thanks Kamal! I really appreciate it bro!
This is gold.
Thank you!
Wow, I am just going to do this exact same style using a C200 and C70. Thank you thank you :)
Fantastic video, thank you..
Extremely helpful, thank you!
Thanks for watching Sam!
Very helpful, thank you :)
Thank you its enlightening
Super helpful, thank Griffin!
Thanks a lot Mike! I appreciate you checking the video out.
Shadow side is referred to as, "Look to Key. The Cross Key lighting is also called a Reverse Key when it is on the side away from the camera on a two person interview type of set up.
It's typically called 'short' lighting in photography as opposed to 'broad' lighting which is shadow farside.
Great video. Next time I film an interview I'm gonna try this lighting setup. Thanks!
That’s awesome! What type of video work do you shoot mostly?
@@GriffinConway I've mostly done short films and hardware installation videos. With everything going on I'm making a push to do more product videography/commercials since that requires less people on set. Besides interviews, what do you usually shoot?
Great content great tips.
Thank you!
great video
This is how I will shoot my interview now. Thanks!
We actually used cross key lighting on the two person interview you did with Luis on his documentary 🔥🔥🔥
Great video. Your cart is beautiful. I looked at Innovativ but went Rock N Roller as it is more budget friendly. Love the notes on lighting. The lantern is a lot of bag for the buck. Smart look for a shorthanded job.
Thanks a lot Joe! Always appreciate your comments. The rock n roller is a solid option as well. Glad you liked the tips in the video
new subscriber here , awesome vid simplifies alot of things that are explained in a really complicated way in other videos thanks !! One question if i was to be recording a wide shot interview of 4 people with a canon m50 what type of auto focus mode would i use ?
Solid video!
Thanks a lot Mark!
great stuff / Great gear / great presentation :)
Thanks for watching David!
Camera labels FTW. Great breakdown!
Thanks for checking the video out Rob! I’m a subscriber of your channel. You have great content
Searched for days and this is the gold I have been looking for. It would be nice if you could drop me a link to download the image or diagrams that you provided. I need to work with that. Thanks
Helpful video
Thank you!
Thank you so much !!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot for the video! For the center camera, whole body one, did you use f/2.8 wide angle? I want to do interview like that but I will only use one camera. I would like to know which lens should I get?
This is helpful
Thank you!
Awesome 👏🏽 🎥👊🏽👍🏽
Thanks Carlos!!
Really. Awesome, kindly may you create the same topic by using sachlter light fixtures and redhead with normal stands without c stands , how you set up the lights , controlling the lights with tracing papers and black papers , I think this will become very challenging
Hey Ahmed! Thanks for the comment. I’m not totally sure I understand everything you are asking but it seems like you may be interested in a more simple setup with smaller stands. I will keep that in mind for future videos. Thanks for watching!
Great stuff man! Any specific reason why you didn’t use the multiview display w the atomos sumo instead of the 3 separate monitors!
Great question...so the monitor you see if the video is an Atomos Sumo 19m (not the regular sumo 19 with recording and quad split. Also, I prefer using separate monitors so we can keep A cam on the larger view.
Great video Griffin, how much time it took you to set up all the equipment and get ready for the interview?
Equipment setup was about an hour and 15 minutes. Prep time for questions etc was done in the week leading up to the interview.
Late to the game, hope you or others can answer my question. Love the Mini max, but my question is the two 120Ds- appears to me they are on a larger boom than just the normal c-stand or am I wrong. Love to know what boom you have for the 120D's unless they are just the standard Cstand. Thanks again for this video. Great work.
Thank you! Normal Matthew’s c stands for those two 120d’s
Hi, nice works. What is specs model of lanterns do you use? Thanks
Great video! So little content about multi person interviews!
I agree! That’s why I made it. Glad you enjoyed the video
Just an observation of your setup. I have found that a two interview setup in a studio during covid has been challenging. For example, looking at your setup (compared to how I have been setting up), I had our talents much further apart as they will remove their mask, we needed a safe distance. And because of that, you have a wider set and you start to see more of the dirty underwear (stuff you don't want to see in the shot...lol). As far as the light placement, I had tried to use the lights in a double-duty function, but I needed control over the intensity of the backlight. So I use tube lights as backlights since they are easy to carry and has a wide spill for the back. I do like the use of a lantern as fill. Lastly....I need a maxi-boom!
The mini max is such a great piece of kit. Covid has definitely made things challenging. Our set was a Covid set as well, so our talent were spaced by 6 feet. It’s been exciting working with some new restrictions with Covid. It’s nice to have some new challenges to overcome.
Thanks, i will employ this one camera, 4k, 3 shot tomorrow.
That’s great! Let me know how it goes would love to hear about it
Dude, I don’t know what you did differently with your set for this video but your A-roll looks so good 👌🏼
$16k for the camera ;) Only kidding but still...
Thanks Sam! Really appreciate that and glad people noticed. I tried a few test exports and made some tweaks because I found the video was looking a little different when I exported it than it did in the premiere pro preview window.
Right on man! Yeah? It looks awesome.
Been loving your stuff brotha 🤙🏼
Really appreciate that Sam!
Thanks!
Thanks Patrick!

DAMN THAT COP TRULY LOOKS LIKE ONE
Weird question maybe but what do you use for transpo with all your gear ? i mean do you usually rent like a van ? i'm looking for a solution to transport a lot of gear easily. and what model of pelican case do you use for what purpose ? great vid btw !! :)
Thanks a lot! I have been looking and sprinter and Ford transit vans but for now I just use my SUV. Also, if you are interested in my pelicans check out my video with the c500 Mark ii + 1dx Mark iii production breakdown. I show which cases I use
