The reality of how many fights you need to make a million dollars is there is a massive range. Petrosyan made 1M for winning the ONE FC tournament. And some people will never make over $5k per fight. In your early days when you had the fight in China for little money did the promoter pay for your flight.Just asking because my son is doing pretty well in K1 over here in England,he’s only 15 but looking to turn pro in a few years.
I have a coach that says the best money for 99% of people is to not do martial arts, the second best is to compete in WAKO light contact (because you can have more fights, have a better chance to win them and can keep another job). Realistically even the 5K is waaaay more than most of us will ever get close to, it really is only financially viable for a fraction of the people that practice :)
Thank you so much for this great insight! I am doing my first amateur fight in light-kick this year. I am 25 years old and aiming to do my first pro fight at 28. Big respect to all who chase this dream!
Obviously, Kickboxing doesn’t have the fan draw of MMA or Boxing, but I’d be very curious to know what percentage of the major KB promotions revenue goes to fighter pay ad compared to say UFC at like 15% or something pitiful like that. Great video. Very sobering.
@@richardwagner4015 When the lads at my sons gym turn pro they get a bit extra cash by selling a few tickets for there fights.I guess the promoter gives them a few for free.
You're doing great on social media with 95k subs. Key always is social engagement. You have a champion mindset and you'll figure everything out. I really like your goal of helping everybody out.
That's the shitty part of the whole UFC pay controversy. UFC doesn't pay well, but it's still better than pretty much any other promotion (except maybe One).

Honestly, I think being a pro is a rough path. You have to put in so much time and effort and risk your health for so little. It is also so unfair, since the amount you earn doesn't necesary depend on your skills. It depends on if the organization and fans like you, people who don't give a fuck about the sport itself.

This is very much like being a professional musician. Most people will never get to the point of being paid and those who do won't get to the point of being financially stable from playing on its own. I know people who have Grammy awards and also work day jobs, mostly in teaching but also in IT, business management, etc. and other fields that allow them flexibility to gig and / or tour. When you look back at the end of your career you'll have a lot of good memories but you probably won't have $1-million in earnings.
If you want to do a combat sport don’t do it expecting to become rich. Do it if you love to fight, do it for glory and don’t expect $. The average ufc fighter gets $5000 a fight after expenses and they fight about 4 times a year max. You can literally make more at McDonald’s.
Wow! That was very insightful, i guess thats why a lot of guys from kickboxing switch over to mma, i heard mma you make more but if id had to guess its gonna depend on a bunch of factors as well.🤔
I'd say a key factor is being very entertaining look at all the highest payed fighters they all do something that people love and it usually isn't their fighting skills
This is unfortunate. I wonder what can be done to garner more interest from fans. Many kickboxers are higher level strikers compared to mixed martial artists, but there’s more money in MMA.
My money has never come from the fighting but running the gym and personals. The record gives you credibility to get people in the door, in my opinion. Most of us will never be god level teir like Varga making bank in the ring. Literally none of us will be a Conor that was a perfect storm of where our sport was at that time. Doesn't mean us normies can't mke a good life training people and doing what we love. This isn't the sport if you wanna be rich, but it is the most fulfilling job I've ever had. Took me 9 years to even get my Instructors 3 more to get my own gym nothing about this sport is short term.
What a great and informative video , though I'm surprised even shocked how poorly paid kickboxing is , I can't believe a world champion kickboxer only makes 10k to 20k per fight its almost not worth pursuing a kickboxing career and putting your body through that when there is boxing or UFC
Hey quick question I noticed when mentioning the tournaments with Glory. Those prize checks are bonus on top of purse? I always had the impression was the check was the over all pay for night
If you tell it like this... It wil take like 15 years or something, when your Lucky. Then you have to pay coaches and gyms and pay rent. When you have a middle salary, like 50K a year, you make a million in 20 years without paying training camps.
But what about the fight purse that share with the gym? I guess the gym invested in fighters and they need to get a cut out of that money to survive also.
Makes me wonder, very hard gig being a fighter though. And whether people are only fighting for the money (guess decent side hustle). How many don't make it would be an interesting stat to. Is the location important to, like an America fighter has more opportunity with far more promotions/people to fight. I know Australia is fair dead.
Oh good. its not necessary to reach $1m but that would be a good goal too, however that $25k-$30k per fight is more than sufficient in my country. If id estimate that 3 fights in a year that would be $75k roughly around 3.2m. Not bad 😁 if youd compare it to min wage, well close, coz min wage is approximately around $50-$60k per year that is if you are earning $20/hr. Well the hard part to that is the amateurs coz fighters are paid none save the experience.
The pay in boxing and MMA isnt much different unless you make it big. Even if you make it big, the payment isnt much better unless you're a star. Most UFC non champion main event fighters (The people who headline Fight Night cards, often top 5 in their divisions) will get a contract of around 100-150k to show + the same amount for win. That means the pay for the average big time UFC fighter is between 100k-300k per fight. Also, no in cage sponsorship. Boxing isnt much different. I know a WBO world champion - brazillian - who got around 300k for his title defense. Detail: 12 round fight. In comparison, Rodtang (Big name Muay Thai fighter) makes 100-150k to fight 3 round. This means Rodtang would be commanding twice the value per round in comparison to a boxing world champion. Kickboxing is basically do your own thing. If you can make it big, develop a great persona, you will probably get a very decent amount of money.
You spread false information, in most cases if you sign contract for 100g ,30% take your agent/promoter and another 30% take your gym, realistically you get 40g ,it's hard to say truth to audience, because if you do everyone realize make 1mil w combat sport is almost impossible, and during decade when you build your career and reputation you live pretty miserable life, and you are slave for your gym, just don't lie, it's easier that way
