Well, I'm not gonna paint anything. Never painted anything like that. I just really enjoyed watching you work on the models. I don't know why but it was quite relaxing!
I am interested in knowing what is best as a primer that does not have harmful chemicals. I used a spray on primer from Michael's and it was labeled, since I live in California, a as having known to the state cancer causing chemicals. I use modge podge gloss as a sealer though I know that can be a bit tacky and it says to coat it with another sealer to take away the tackiness. Ink is interesting is it like using thin paint?? My mom use to antique ceramics with a watered down color . Are there special paints just for bringing out the detail or can I just thin acrylic and coat it on ?? Is it difficult to remove the nail after painting from the base. Nice ideas and nice video. I also have Scythe and Blood Rage. ;-)
You should buy a respirator or mask from Home Depot as most sprayed paints are harmful. Best to prime with a flat paint not gloss. Watering down the acrylics a lil bit is ok. Thanks for watching!!
Might I ask how much money (approximately) one would need to spend to be able to be geared enough to do this kind of hobby? Also, would you say this hobby has a high lvl of skull required or a newbie Could catch on quickly?
did you "prime it with black paint" and then straight to "dry brushing" or did you "spay paint it with BLACK PAINT after priming it BEFORE dry brushing?"
Hi, congratulations it looks incredible!! do you sell the painted miniatures? I’d be very interested in buying (I’m very bad at painting). Congratulations and I’d be very happy if you can answer
Just got the game and indeed considering painting them. Ive still got some plastic paint for aircrafts and tanks soooooo, yeah :P Came here for inspiration for "what colors to use" All the time when you talk about those plastic units, you are not impressed. Me, the peasant of a casual that i am, am so glad to hear 21:50 haha
Shelby, I see how you use primer and inks to paint miniatures, and also dry colorer, but won't they drop of during the exploitation? Do you cover them with something after the painting? This is a question from Russia and I'm not sure that I will be able to find the same materials in our stores. So could you tell the type of paints and other staff you use so I could find analogues at my place or order them from eBay..?) One more, thanks for the tutorial, it's awesome!
Damn, seen all other videos and didn't finish with watching this video... Clear matte Sealer))) now I know)) but it still would be nice if you could write the type of paints and primer you use: are those water-based or nitro-paints? Acrylic or something else?
They make specific spray paint for priming models, but most spray paints seem to work. Try priming a model and see if it dries completely, not sticky at all. 2 light coats are best. Never put on too much paint at once. Acrylic paints work well. Water based yes. I’m not familiar w nitro. Thanks for watching!! Ochin spaciba! !
Shelby Smith, you R awesome (especially with "ocjin spasiba!") Thnx for your answer. I've found several types of acrylic spays at our stores but can't find Shadow Inks like those you have used (Nute Oil). I'll try to contact with guys from Citadel Paints. May be they can ship their products to Russia... One more time, thnx for your videos and painting guides!
Citadel Nulin Oil is a wash. There are some vidoes on UA-cam on how to make your own. You can also use water based wood stain. i would try it first on a model you dont care about. i have a video on painting the game Scythe where i show how i use floor/wood stain to do a quick wash. I took a little Russian in college. If i ever make it to Russia, maybe we could play some games. ya govaryu nada nimnolga parusski. (i dont have ability to type in slavic alphabet) Spaciba!!
Shelby may come on and give the 100% correct answer but I think he mentioned just cutting the glue off the bottom with a model knife and then giving it a few scrapes if necessary.
Bonding With Board Games yeah but i wanna take a look at your awesome drawings, but its impossible if you film it like that! You could put it on sth self rotating and then focus and record. ;)) ppl watch this video because they wanna see your drawings. Anyway thx for the video 👍🏻😚🤟🏻
Shelby is still refining his video skills. He's been so busy he hasn't been able to make more. I'll ask him to work on the focus. I agree it's nice to be able to see his great work. Chief.
Would love to see this type of video for the rest of the factions. This was fantastic. Thanks!
Listen to the fans Shelby and keep the factions coming. Great painting tips brother. Chief
Yep! Keep those videos coming. Length is ok, and paining tips excellent.
Shelby is hard at work...I can't wait...he makes me want to paint. Chief
Thanks! first time even thinking about painting and this is perfect instructional.
Thank you Chris.
Well, I'm not gonna paint anything. Never painted anything like that.
I just really enjoyed watching you work on the models. I don't know why but it was quite relaxing!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. You should try it sometime. It is relaxing
First time I see inks used on dark primer, just like paints, very nice!
Nice how-to! Do one for every faction, please. Would like to paint mine using your tutorials.
Best regards from Germany!
Danke!!
Really worth watching! Thanks! Love to see how to do the others.
Thanks
I would love to see the others painted as well :)
He is working on it now Gui. I want to see them too. Chief
Working on white faction
I'd like to see what you do with the others. My wife and I have really loved playing Scythe and I'd like to paint them up to add to the experience.
More are on the way. Chief
Thanks so much for the video. What's the trick for removing the minis from the glued nail?
My minis went sticky after priming as you described, what’s the process you use to strip them?
Shelby says ‘Simple Green’ works pretty well
I'll get on it. Will try to make rest of the videos much shorter. Thanks!!
I think you have a pretty good length Shelby...JK's Game Shelf has a question for you posted further above. Chief

Shelby should see this and reply

The hot glue pops off fairly easy with a knife
Awesome stuff

I don’t think Shelby monitors the comments Jon

Hello Carla. Thanks for asking. I too am terrible at mini painting. Shelby does not sell any painted minis. Sorry.
Just got the game and indeed considering painting them. Ive still got some plastic paint for aircrafts and tanks soooooo, yeah :P

Thanks for doing this. What matte sealer do you get from Michaels? I've been using Testor's Dullcote but I can't find it locally.
I'll show it in next video.
Krylon uv resistant clear matte
I do like army painter stuff also.
Dull coat is nice but hard to find
Trivial question: how do you scrape off the glue from the bases or the minis when you're done?
Shelby may come on and give the 100% correct answer but I think he mentioned just cutting the glue off the bottom with a model knife and then giving it a few scrapes if necessary.
@@BondingWithBoardGamesRPGs ok thanks, must have missed that part !
Do u have a video of the other factions? This is great!
Look at Shelby’s play list for all his content. I think he made 17 videos.
those glasses you wear for "magnifying" stuff. What's it called?
I don’t know Jon. Shelby might answer
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
That was great, thank you
Adding vote of, yes please, for the other factions :) edit: oh snap, there is a part 2, woohoo, thank you
Thanks
Thanks for the video.
awesome thanks for the video
I’m sure he said it on video. 👍
how hard can it be to focus on the object dude???
Sometimes those auto focus cameras need a hand behind them and some wacky jazz hands movements. That can be challenging dude. 🙃 Chief

what are the inks?
Sorry Shelby doesn’t watch the comments. I’m not sure what he was using then.
