    Against Germany we switch from a 4231 which was attack and possession based to a 433 trying to force counters and long balls that most us fans hate and are tired of after 4 years

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 Рік тому

      Berhalter didn't switch to a 433 until the beginning of Olympic qualifying. He started his tenure running a 4-2-3-1 but at the time didn't feel he had adequate 6's or 10's. Fans like Pete and Tac were begging Berhalter to play the 4-3-3 and really excited when he started doing it.

      @@celebrim1 I was talking more about that specific game and why he was critized as it was easy to tell tactics changed at halftime

      @@perf3ct1y8 Ok, that's fair.
      Berhalter treated the game like a friendly. He benched his best players and brought on newer players. Without Gio in the line up, it doesn't make a lot of sense to be in a 4-2-3-1 because Gio is the only 10 we have aside from possibly Tillman who is injured.
      The first half proved we could hang with Germany if we needed to in a real game. The second half was meaningless. Germany cared more only because it was a new coach and they desperately needed a win to restore confidence.
      I'd far rather see Berhalter winning in games that matter than winning meaningless friendlies. We had way too much of opposite under the German clown, and way too many fans that defended the German clown because he would beat some significant soccer nation in a friendly, in a late comeback, after both sides had made six subs.

      @@celebrim1 I agree if anything I think it’s a W for us to see that GGG’s 433 is probably not going to cut it against top teams and now both fans and coaches know that however that game we had no choice since Reyna had no full match fitness so the only remark I would make is finding an optimal 3rd creative 10

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 Рік тому

      @@perf3ct1y8The big problem with the 4-3-3 is it is basically saying, "I think I'm stronger than you at every position on the field." Berhalter ran it because he had a young team with a high motor and good wheels, but it's never been his favorite formation. His system has always been based off the 4-2-3-1. When in the 4-3-3 we're really seeing only a limited part of his preferred attack, which starts in a 4-2-3-1 and rotates into 4-3-3 or 4-2-2-2 with fullbacks coming up high. You can see his system in play if you watch old Crew games.
      He dropped his system because when the team was young he didn't have a #6 or a #10 that could run it, and just taught the 4-3-3. He stuck with it because he doesn't like to shift formation a lot given the limited time he gets with the players, and because part of Berhalter's reforms is teaching the same system at every level from the U15's up to the senior team. He really wants to have an "American style" that players coming up through the youth levels already know. The 4-3-3 is just one portion of what he wants that "American style" to be.
      Remember when he took the job one of the big complaints against him was that his Crew system was too complicated for international play. Now people are acting like the 4-3-3 is his system or something, even though he never ran that until like fall of 2021 after Lleget failed as a #10.

      I think this sentiment is a bit overblown. Ghana has a terrible first half, but they looked much more like themselves in the second. The U.S. has just gotten a lot better than in years past.

    Second half against Germany was on the manager Gregg, the issue was that he made no improvements tactically and switched to a boring tactical style and got outclassed. He is what holds the US back.

      Reyna getting subbed off was also part of the problem. The team plays so differently with him and we don't have a replacement quite at his level. Malik Tillman is his true backup but he wasn't available, he plays the role Reyna does and he's not bad but he's not at Reyna's level.

    They also cut off Turner's sick distribution after claiming the cross around the 8:34-mark. He found Pulisic one-on-one and Pulisic's first touch to bring it down was also class - he got in behind the last defender initially but ran out of gas around the top of the D and got shouldered off the ball. Was a great recovery from the Ghanaan defender..

    Gio was on minute restrictions and he could only play 45 mins. When he was taken out, we don't have anyone else to play the 10 (Malik Tilman can and was calles up but got injured right before) so they had to change formation in the both 2nd halves. Basically Gio has to be a starter in the midfield for us because we are running through him.

    Ok I just want to take a victory lap here. It’s the same game script again. We play well free flowing and able to link up in the first half. And maybe just maybe this is because gio rayna is our 10 the first half. And then without him we revert to berhaulter ball and can’t produce anything but are ok in the defensive half but still struggle at times. Seems like a common problem with Gregg

    correction... that was not a strong line up. the whole defence was essentially our subs. and the backup goalkeeper. our number 1 is Ati-Zigi not Nurudeen. we were missing our key defenders from the world cup, like Salisu, Odoi, no Lamptey, and many more.

    Mate, the penalty around minute 36 that lead to the 4th goal was due to the obstruction rule. The Ghanaian player secured the ball,
    covered it up and would not release it. Unless you’re the GK, that’s a foul.

    You ask how we rate Weah. He's very good, but as with a lot of our attacking players, Weah lacks consistent finishing. USA often sees lots of positive play, but then fails to capitalize on our chances. This is really the story for a lot of our players at both club and national team levels. Pulisic is on fire right now, but inconsistent finishing is part of what kept him from being rated at Chelsea. McKinney at Juventus is a great finisher with his head but fails to finish with his feet - something that is awkward for a box-to-box midfielder. Weah has been dropped back from being a winger to being a fullback by his club because he adds so much positive play but isn't a scoring threat. And so forth.
    As for the criticism of Berhalter, he's not as hated as the online community would have you think. There are a certain percentage of American fans that hate everything American. It's a very American attitude to be super-critical of America (just as it's very American to be super-patriotic). So there are fans that just got outraged as soon as we hired an American coach and they have never let go of that and never will. As long as Berhalter remains American, they'll hate him reflexively and mindlessly. The only thing he could do to shut them up is win a World Cup, but with the team we have that isn't happening even with Pep as the coach. Berhalter isn't the best coach in the world, but he's out coached his opponents in a ton of games and basically done everything he was hired to do. Go watch the game versus England in the World Cup, or the friendly versus Morocco a bit before that, or basically any game that mattered against Mexico to see just how much Berhalter can tie opponents in knots when his game plans go to plan. There are some fair criticisms about his inability to change plans when things aren't working, but he's a decent a coach that's gotten great results. But he's American and some people won't forgive him for that, and they have an emotional need at this point for him to fail because they've cursed him and criticized him so much that if he succeeds it makes them feel bad.

    Hard to hear somebody call a soccer game “physical” mostly what I see is a bunch of guys running around and the second the other team even touches the guy with the ball they fall down and act like they were shot 10 times in the leg.. then, when the call goes their way, they pop right back up like nothing ever happened 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤣🤣🤣 just way too dramatic for me. Trying to fake fall and dive all over the place for penalties to change the outcome is just pathetic. That’s why I can never call it football when talking about soccer. It doesn’t deserve to be called football in the first place when everybody plays in such a coward way and I’m talking about every single big league over there in Europe and every single player pretty much does when I’m talking about and everybody is just cool with it. Going to a draw at the end of the game when it’s tied is also lame. Should just go to overtime.. first goal wins obviously.. no you don’t keep playing once somebody scored an overtime until time runs out.. 🤦‍♂️😑 it’s over when the first team scores. Very simple.
    I mean, why the hell would they go to penalty kicks in a major tournament for the final game? Maybe other games you can find the winner with penalty kicks but when it is the very final championship game, it should play until somebody scores. For my team to work their butts off the whole tournament just to have it come down to a stupid penalty shootout is the dumbest crap.. 🤯🤦‍♂️ it’s much more fair and just more exciting for everybody to play until somebody scores in overtime and no penalty shootouts in major tournaments especially final games.. OK I’m done Bit**ing 🤣
