    Thank you so much for sharing this. I just bought a property with some peach trees that haven’t been maintained very well. This was so helpful!!

    Greetings from rural NE California. Thank you for a good pruning video. I have been an arborist since the '80s, and I am still studying: videos such as this, books by Harris and Pirone, and materials from various Extension agencies and tree Commissions. Never would I call myself an expert. I just enjoy learning and growing. It makes for happy customers as a result.
    I like your tools. I also have a very old pole pruner that makes nicer cuts like good bypass loppers. It is very helpful.
    I think I saw a tree in the background with anti sunscald paint. Good idea.
    Last, I wish to thank you for a nice music selection in the sound track, and a low volume. You are skillful at making a good quality video. And I thank you.
    Many Blessings, and with respect,
    Michael.

    Great lesson! Just what I needed to know. I recently moved to a house where there is a sad peach tree that was effected by that big Michigan freeze a few years back. Thanks!

    Top flight video presentation. Tripod steady screen view. Leafless branch clarity. Excellent contrast against a grey sky, in a majority of scenes. Audio. Yes audio. I can clearly hear you talking even when you step away from the camera and evident wind about but the wind noise is suppressed. . AND one of my favorite gripes "background music interfering with speaker's narrative" HERE you beautifully edited a quite music overlay .

      I have had some issues with background music being too loud for some people. I will improve it in the future.

    Thank you Mr. Heilig. I appreciate your expertise. I view pruning videos to better my skill and fruit yield. Your videos are the most logical, informative and well reasoned. I will use only your videos for my fruit tree maintenance in that the methodology they contain are simply the best in terms of the health of my orchard and fruit production.

    It's March in Massachusetts. Next week is supposed to be warm and I want to try to prune some peach trees in the yard. A school in PA has a video where they advocate only having 10 shoots off each of the four or five scaffolds coming off the main trunk. The tree is nearly naked when they are done pruning.

    Great video. It seems that growth is weak. We usually cut prune more intensive and also apply nitrogen in cases like that. I would also like to see how the tree looks right now.

    Hi Gary, thank you very much for uploading your videos. I really enjoy watching them. I have one question in regards of Bacterial spot on peach tree. I have planted a Frost peach tree and Contender lastyear, I have notice that leaves are infected with bacterial spot. Is there something that should worried about? What can do to prevent them from spreading? Thought I sprayed them with Copper. Your response is greatly appreciated. John C.

    Very informative video. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us! May I ask - what kind of paint would you use for cuts bigger than a quarter?

    • @GaryHeilig
      @GaryHeilig  3 роки тому +1

      A pruning wound sealer. It is usually a spray on product, but don't do it on a windy day unless you don't care about the clothes you are wearing.

      No no no!
      The "healing" of pruning "wounds" depends entirely upon proper pruning cuts. This allows the callus, and later the bark, to grow over the wound.
      To apply anything on a pruning wound will seal IN any problems that are waiting there:
      -Fungus spores,
      -Viral,
      -Bacterial,
      -Insects.
      And most of these are not very visible.
      Let the tree do its' work as God designed it.
      So... it all comes back to making proper pruning cuts so the tree can grow over the wound.

    About 10 minutes in, I started wondering if you were going to turn it in to a parody by inventing reasons to cut off every branch and dig the tree from the ground. I enjoy nonsense like that, so that was my only disappointment.
    Thanks for sharing your thought process.

    Gary (2 questions) What did you use for fertilizer? When was the last time this tree was pruned?

    • @GaryHeilig
      @GaryHeilig  7 років тому

      The tree was pruned some in 2016. Since it is so close to the strawberry bed, it gets some of the fertilizer applied to the strawberries. I will fertilizer it sometime in late April.
