I disagree, while gishath is an excellent payoff, it is an 8 cost commander than can be extremely vulnerable to removal. Sure it’s expected you work around it? But it still requires a level of preparation to reach gishath then have it resolve in order to live out the dinosaur fantasy, which sadly can be stopped by path to exile or a large enough army of goblins. Pantlaza on the other hand gives you consistency and scaling Dino-triggers while you build up for your big bomb dinosaurs.
To me, Gishath feels more like a glass cannon for the reason you mention, but also, having seen it played quite a bit, there's another weakness. If you resolve a Gishath trigger a few times and you're unable to respond to a couple of board wipes, you could end up running out of steam. I like the incremental value you get from Pantlaza, the fact it requires less setup and is less threatening than Gishath/Zacama, but that's just me.
Yeah 100%. I think pantlaza unseats Gishath as the top Dino commander BECAUSE of the fact that it won’t be a magnet for removal. They’ll be dealing with other Dino’s coming out. Gishath, you have to ramp, get out, and connect with to ensure you actually get the triggers. That’s SOOO much set up. Here’s a Dino that lets you go buck wild with OTHER Dino’s. Just too much set up and too much at stake with Gishath
Today i was talking with my cousin, since im the "magic expert" of the family, as revealed the decks, at least where i live, i said by popularity was Dinos, Vampys, Fishmens, and last torrent ussers, but as power clearly i thought that the fishman was the most powerfull, next dinos sin with have some flicks tricks, next the Vampys, since orzhov love aristocrats suttfs and last was pirates, since still are low support for them.
Going to have to disagree on the pirate commander. Doing combat damage with 3 pirates? That's easier said than done, and when you can do extra combat steps I think that would proc the recursion ability

Yep Pantlaza IS better
Gishath always gets removed so it's bad in that sense
Clearly the Merfolk deck is the best because the smell of fish is overpowering.

After playing with Hakbal my respect for the merfolk type has increased 200% .The card is a simic value engine AND a win condition.
He is brilliant! 🧜♂️
