Man, this was incredibly insightful. I think Dany's points on integrity and the balance of freedom to speak ones mind vs when to read the room is vital to keep a happy cutting room. The importance of a quiet word kept between two parties is really valuable advice.
Knowing that every job is temporary and that everything is an opportunity to learn in order to have the skills to take on a higher responsibility, while learning the ins and outs, is the way!! Great experience!
Ok. One of the best videos from an editor's perspective that I have been given the honor to listen to as a fly on the wall--so intensely personal to what my experience has been. Beautiful! Thank you so much for this! Multiple levels are represented so clearly, and with such realism and lively accuracy. Thank you - thank you. Sharing this with my director and team.
Several people have said this already but "Don't tell me what to cut, tell me what you want to feel" is so good. I am so thrilled to be hired more and more for editing jobs as of late and I've run into this a few times. Where the director will start to tell me where to cut and I've been trying to figure out how to approach mentioning what she did in this video. This is perfect. Thank you.
Love this. As a business coach, I teach and use these soft skills. Not only is it critical to a smooth operation and creating a safe working space, but it's also fascinating. Seeing editing this way makes me question my career path and wonder if it's too late to get into editing as a 48yo 🙂
6:03 "If someone says cut here" I felt that, even though I'm a newbie editor, I lost my mind when that started to happen a lot in just one hour of working, I kindly asked the director what was the general idea and to let me deal with the rest alone, and if there was anything missing, I would make sure it's added and embellished with music. 😅
Battlestar Galactica...one of my prefered series in my life...really amazing to have such talent in your channel Sven...what a great video. And the Erwan´s work it´s always pretty amazing...what a piece of video guys!
Really enjoyed this interview! I really enjoy editing, but not so much for films. I enjoy using the techniques that I've seen for videos that I create for my brother's ministry and my sister's channel. It great to learn and practice these things
Yep this is why I don’t edit in Hollywood. Too many politics. There’s something to be said for small projects with creative control. The prestige of editing high budget stuff just seems to have so many strings attached.
I feel like all the intercut bits of "meme-y" footage distracted a lot from what Dany was saying and you weren't as able to process the information. But I guess in the times of hyper short attention spans thanks to Tiktok etc you gotta do what you gotta do
You have the subscribers, you have the number of views - you maybe have control over where UA-cam puts the Ads - I can handle clicking through or waiting for Ads to end to get back to your content but... at the end of your video [and many others] an Ad pops up and I think "oh it's not over - like a Marvel Movie - there is more of Sven's content in the credits!' but no it is just another Ad - boy I wish they did not do that [that last Ad] - In my mind I'm thinking about your content and EditRave - Then Poof it's gone... - sorry for the rant - thanks
this new youtube style editing with all the stuff in between the interview to make it more flashy and to always put text in the video to emphasise the spoken word is a trend i don´t like...
Interesting Daniel. There is a lot of it, and I was wondering whether it was to cover over what would otherwise be a shot of a talking head. My specialty is making the most boring video that is harder than rocks to digest. I was going to add a bit of this until I can figure out how to film a better film. It would be interesting to know you lean towards not liking the style.
@@Dancing_Alone_wRentals it's interesting, because at times I need it to bring me back to the video, or I'll zone out (like I do if it's just a video of a talking head), but at other times it's distracting me instead. I find it really hard to say what a video should be if it's only information, because it's almost easier to listen to it like a podcast while doing something stimulating, like dishes or makeup. But maybe editing that isn't flashy and jarring, like smooth editing that really emphasizes what is being said without also making a second point at the same time would be the easiest to take in. And maybe a flashier cut when the topic changes? Just some thoughts from someone without a lot of experience, but who finds it really interesting
@@MariWakocha best thoughts in town. You made me think of it from another angle. The printed lines of text force you to keep your eyes on the screen.......but yes, Often times I want to be in the room listening. Disappointed. Your thumbnail picture seemed to say the video would reveal technical aspects of the edit or how to set up and edit room to be more efficient. It was NOTHING like that. Just a lot of dribble about interpersonal relationships in an edit room. Clickbait!
Please just let an interview play without that constant stream of useless movieclips and quotes that don't give your interview of a greater value. Yeah it's cool that you can do it, but you shouldn't. It's nice for a short clip but not for ten minute interviews. It's too distracting.

Could anyone please tell the name of the movie at 3:55 cause I've searched all internet :D
