They are tricky I would not get them if you havent one in the past unless your working with a trainer I have one and she was very difficult but I'm glad she's my service dog and they can make great service dogs as well
Ebony Moore my first dog was a german shepherd and honestly it was not as hard as most people make out to be yes they are high energy dogs but with right training and leadership they are great dogs mine was potty trained in about 5-6 days the shedding is annoying but just stay on top of everything and you’ll be just fine and never look at training your dog as a “job” if you do it with a happy mindset your dog will learn quicker just my advice
I think the best service dogs would have to be a lab because they are low maintenance, easily trained, and are still big enough dogs to cuddle with lol.
German shepherds are great and they dont shed much other than the 'dreaded' blowing of the coat (IMHO not that bad). As long as theyre on a good diet the only time other than coat blowing my GSD shed was when he was allergic to food i was giving him. I changed the food he stopped shedding (as bad they still shed but its only a little bit). Very smart dog breed.
Jackie H hahah! low maintenance! Our lab sheds a whole other lab everyday, is never full and Ned’s just as much exercise as any other dog. Oh but good luck with that because they are almost impossible to train to walk well on a leash. Please don’t recommend a lab because they are “low maintenance” they are not.
How does the dog know your blood sugar is high? Is the dog reacting to equipment or is it from his own senses? Have a great time in high school. I think your doggie will learn a lot and have fun.
The dog is able to smell the glucose in someone’s breath because of their incredible sense of smell. They can tell based off of how much glucose they smell (whether it has a strong scent or weak scent sort of thing) if the person has high blood sugar. This may not be accurate but it is the general idea of what they do to detect it.
Mystique_Moon Diabetic alert dogs are only for Type 1 diabetes. No reputable Diabetic dog organizations provide dogs to type 2 diabetics, because 1. the condition is reversible with diet & exercise and 2. there have been 0 studies to prove that diabetic alert dogs do anything for type 2 diabetics.
