Hey- I wouldn’t be doing reactions if I wasn’t a long time fan! I watch more anime than anything else. Love FLCL. Makes zero sense but damn it’s a beautiful story.
I have studied Japanese folklore and visit often due to having a business partner there. Turbo Granny looks down upon yokai because in Folklore she is actually a Shaman in the past who quelled the anguish of the dead and mourns them. In this story she is able to also channel sorrow into power in the form of Shapeshifting and speed as well as talking to the dead creating temporary zombies who only the gifted can see. She is basically a "Medium" who gains power from the dead by praying for them and they extended her life with their lives that were cut short. Onmyoji were the term, some were bound to the shogun, some were hermits like her who lived on a mountain that eventually became a tunnel and in modern legends people say when they pass through it unrespectfully at night they see glimpses of her to scare them, which is where the term 100 km came from.
@@T_K_Ohhh Yep, Onmyoji were hired to solve supernatural phenomenon in their territory and what most likely happened was her mountain was near a town with a brothel so after some women who were disposed of became spirits haunting the town she was hired to stop the haunting but it became a perpetual issue because it did not stop the people from mutilating the geisha disposed of. Onmiyoji channel the spirits of the dead for power which is why when Okarun uses her power he speaks depressed. The women who died from centuries in the red light district piled over time but they extended her life so she isn't a Yokai but she isnt exactly human anymore. She respects the rules not to mess with the living unless they go into her turf and those dead young women feeling vulnerable in folklore ask her to immasculate the men that wander in so when drivers pass by unrespectfully they sometimes see glimpses of her. I have traveled between Tokyo, Nagano and Osaka often so learning folklore happens a lot in festivals. She was probably so committed to answering theif prayers she basically became a medium for their lives that got cut short.

I know everyone is going on about Luffy's voice actress being Turbo Granny or some shit in the Sub and yes that shit is wild but here's something just as freaking wild Barbara Goodson the English voice actress who voices Turbo Granny in the Dub is well know as voice actress who voiced Rita Repulsa from Power Rangers hearing her talk like that is just as crazy to me! Like I seriously I can't help but imagine "AFTER TEN THOUSAND YEARS I'M FREE! IT'S TIME TO GOBBLE DONG!" this dub is seriously bringing whole a new meaning to the phrase "MAKE MY MONSTER GROW!".
Hell yeah, love the energy, I usually prefer sub, but I really hate sub vs dub debates, absolutely pointless. I watch animes in both languages and the dub for DanDaDan is really well done.
I could be wrong about this. But I heard somewhere that the manga creator of this anime is legitimately insane. As in, he's wearing straight jacket and has been thrown into a padded room/cell.
Thank you, I love english dub animes. Its not as bad as it was back in the 90s. Back then I was all about subs. Voice acting has came a long way when it comes to Anime.
