@@dieterschneegans1850 it's a matter of preference i guess but i would never like getting murdered on the king side eith much slower counter play White moves in the pirc are so natural unlike blacks
I think it's an illusion that black can go toe-to-toe with white in the opening. It seems to me black's main goal in the first several moves is to avoid getting clobbered and to develop his pieces. The Pirc seems to do that.
thanks for this instructive video. it shows some hope for black in the pirc. you do encounter some unusual positions sometime and sometimes they offer chances for black. thanks again
A very nice lecture AGAIN! All games were very interesting, but the third game was really beautiful! Black played so courageously, sacrificing the exchange and a rook on top!
At 11:05 Ben talks about how it's not great for the bishop to capture on a6. If the position was different and the king was still in the center, and your opponent has pushed their kingside pawns, wouldn't it be worth it then to prevent their king from being safe the whole game?
@@justinliu6376 it's pretty potent if Black has already castled kingside, but black has ways to deal with it by quickly launching on the queenside as soon as White appears to be setting up the 150. NM Robert Ramirez has several videos on the topic.

1) Pirc in Black and White: Detailed Coverage of an Enterprising Chess Opening 2) The Pirc Defense (Grandmaster Repertoire) 3) Pirc Alert! Second Edition
I am glad you covered the Pirc Defense, it's my favorite opening when playing with the black pieces. I still struggle because of my 650 rapid elo, but it's the opening I prefer. Kudos also for the pronunciation, this is how Vasja's Pirc name is pronounced in their language. 10:36 in the Pirc defense the pawn moves to c6 (not c5). 19:32 why Korchnoi resigned? Nxc4 forks white's queen and rook. And when queen moves Nxd2. Rook is gone. 28:14 a better move for black would be Qxd5 threatening white's queen, rook, bishop so white has to exchange queens. 31:26 top 10 in the world and he didn't kill the white rook with his queen? Fantastic game by Hans Guenter Kestler. Savrificing both rooks! 🤩
1) the c4 pawn is protected by the bishop so the knight would just get taked 2) the pawn is protected by the knight SO the queen would just get taked 3) he would exchange the queen for the rook, he could keep playing a little but it is just losing.
Gyula is pronounced "Jul-ya" and Sax probably "Shacks", but may have retained the German pronunciation since it's a German name in which case it would be "Zacks". Learned very little about the Pirc from GM Feingold's lecture, save the issue with a pawn on C4. Funnily, he didn't even mention its similarity to the Sicilian Dragon, although others have pointed it out - and it's C file attacking possibilities. Overall, I was very disappointed. I guess I don't "get" GM Feingold's sense of humor.
International titles were introduced in 1950. So he was one of the first batch of recipients of the title when he became and IM. Only 27 players got the grandmaster title in 1950. He got the Grandmaster title the year he won his 6th Yugoslavian title, I don't know if they're linked. Well noticed.
Slovenian here, your pronounciation of Pirc is perfect. Good job, lecture on pirc I can actually listen to.
