    I had a nano tank that developed green water I could NOT get rid of for a month and a half, tried all the go-to things (except blackout because this is a high tech planted tank), but the only thing that worked was buying a green machine UV sterilizer. Just 4 nights of running and water is clear, then took the sterilizer out after those 4 days and it's been clear for months now. Can't recommend it enough if you want to cut out all of the headache and labor of constant water changes (while addressing the cause). I keep mine around as a remedy if it happens again.

    Fantastic info delivered in an entertaining way! The beard detail to show the passage of time is brilliant! Love it, as always!

      Yeah, I thought Stephen did a good job with the beard timeline. Must be how folks used to calculate the passing of time before the advent of the calendar :)

      100% water change work instantly. I think 100% water change is faster. After water change, just make sure to feed less, and not more than 8 hours of light a day and put in fast growing plant. Instant cure in one day.@@DansFish

    I just used an algae cleaner. It didn't hurt my fish or snails at all. Purigen works wonders too. I do both. I did turn my lights off for a week and it did nothing. Id go with the cleaners for sure

    Very detailed video on algae! We've seen 11 days of beard growth, it's time to let that beard grow out Dan! The blackout method works very well against green water!

    Thanks for this one, Dan. Truly an easy "problem" to fix with some patience. It's good to know it wont harm our fish.
    BTW- the beard looks great!

    Do you still feed the fish while turning the light off? Feeding it won't promote more algae?

    • @DansFish
      @DansFish  8 місяців тому +1

      You are correct that feeding the fish will result in nutrients that algae can use, but, IME, without light, the algae dies anyway. I always feed while the lights are off.

    I see you were successful removing the green water. My tank is in a room that gets sunlight during the day. Not direct light but light from the windows on the other side of the room. What's the solution? Better filter? UVC filter? Appreciate the help.

    But Dan won't the UV sterilizer kill off my beneficial bacteria or make my fish go blind?

    • @DansFish
      @DansFish  Рік тому +1

      Beneficial bacteria are benthic...they adhere to surfaces. So they are not generally in the water column where they can get pumped into the UV sterilizer. And you fish certainly should not be pumped into the sterilizer or they very well might go blind...or worse.
