Stranjah I love your videos but this tutorial was on an absolute other level. So insightful to see you demonstrate all the different patterns and then create a track. I'm sure I speak for your entire community when I say thank you for your excellent work!!
great video from the teacher. never comment but this one deserves it, so clear and concise, the only video on jungle footwork that actually explains everything. thanks dude
Love your channel dude. Excellent stuff. I'm 62 years old and a long time Abelton user since it came out. I ran an analog recording studio in the 1980's, so I remember all these styles. Thanks.
I have attempted footwork jungle before and never actually mastered the swing of the beats successfully. The stabs and vocals fx I understood , but not the drums. I over complicated the breaks also. Now I have seen it I will defiantly have another try. Thanks for the breakdown , it really shows where I was going wrong:)
yay!!! thank you! finally!! people may be influenced with footwork jungle but always pay respect to the original chicago footwork vibe. if you want real footwork vibe, play the drum machine live and turn off quantization
Every one of your videos give me the big brain lightbulb, this one no exception. really broke through the confusion I had on getting the footwork sound together, having a blast right now in Ableton 👽👌
From works by Anna Fruit and Nu Tone this style has evaded me for a long time and have wondered what the anatomy of the genre was. This is a good explainer. It is a genre with lots of room to grow and it is super fun to dance to. This video might help create a little army of new releases now that you have revealed some of the secrets to the genre. Thanks.
so strange was literrly listening too sherelle's boiler room a couple days ago and she was banging out some amazing footwork jungle tracks, made me wanna learn the style, and here stranjah is to help a bruva out (ps if you havent listened to sherelles boiler room DOOOO its incredible)
I’d love to see a breakbeat tutorial. 130-136bmp sort of thing. There isn’t a lot of breaks genre tutorials, and the ones that exist are super thin on info.
Something to add that helps make neat footwork chops is to have an instrument rack with an arp, and a simpler set to slices. Set up a stack of notes from (I think) C1 to C2. The arp device will begin playing arpeggiated slices at whatever speed you want (I find 4 or 8 notes at 1/3, 1/4, and 1/8 to be best). Great for… Keys, guitar, and vocals are best!
Also, for anyone interested in more info on how these rhythms came together, look into Om Unit and his Philip D Kick footwork jungle project (especially the Remarc - RIP edit), and Planet Mu (the label). Addison Groove also has some footwork material that’s ravey.
on those kicks, you gotta rush that 3rd kick in the triplet. It sounds closer to how they beat that shit out on the mpc. And in juke, make that 1st kick come a 16th before the actual 1 beat, and you'll instantly get that skip and bounce
A tutorial on Breakbeat Techno would be great. It's a fusion of Techno, Electro and breaks. Jensen Interceptor is a great producer in this genre. Check out his album Mother
Sick mate. I always felt like the stuff youre showing is underproduced purposefully to show the technique better but regardless this is a fucking banger!
Trying to relate this style to house but hearing how high the tempo is kind of messed my brain up 😅 Even for a lot of jungle/d&b I hear, those kicks seem crazy fast to me. Im gunna have to look into this style more.
My recommendation, in two parts. 1) Look up DJ Assault stuff from the 90s. Super raunchy, sped up ghetto house around 155 bpm. It's four to the floor with chanted vocals about booties, fuckin', etc. We're in Detroit where cars come from and everyone calls liquor stores "party stores." Speed is king. 2) From there, it's not that hard to imagine dance competitions. And it's not hard to imagine them getting more aggressive, like battle dancing. Especially once this style is back over in Chicago across Lake Michigan. The beats are tenser. The patterns are getting weirder. The weirder the beats, the faster and weirder dancer's feet are getting. We're in the dance circle and the energy is tense. We've arrived at Footwork. Search youtube for footwork battles, watch the dancing, it will all make sense.
I know I'm late to this one, but besides saying that this is another killer Stranjah tutorial, I'd only add that it's interesting that by the end of the Footwork Jungle section, we're actually listening to something like early '90s "oldskool hardcore". That's because the break is left alone without any real time-stretching or stutter fills. If you're good with that, fine, but if you want to lean more junglist, you may just replace the ravey dotted 8th-note chords with a more reggae-ish echoed chording on the 2 and 4....
Would love to see you explain the workings of gqom, really interesting genre, illumination boiz, Slikback, DJ polo, and Nazar are all operating in this space with amazing music. I'd also like to see you tackle the Shanghai styles of drum music by the likes of 33EMYBW, really interesting drum patterns and rhythms found here also..
Right, but what about the "Srididum Bam dim dom dum dumb... sidee badee deebadoo dow dow" and the "swee szee sweee zeee zsee zeee szweeee!" or the "deedubba deedubba deeeeee" ?
😀 What is your favourite tempo to produce in?

You are most welcome good luck with the results, experiment and try different rhythms!
your attempt requires you to do the actual footwork dance. that's how you'll get the feeling.
@@windowbreezes Ha ha. yup. I will never get it , I'm a terrible dancer ;)

Glad you enjoyed that!
Subbed instantly when i discovered your channel, simply cuz you talk about jungle.
