I only got to see him as DW and his band in LA. It was surreal. Seeing him performing the beat + lyrics but also watching some audience members on a Hens Night, drunk as in puffy bridesmaids' dresses, dancing some weird non bluebeat dance step to the tunes of Stand Down Margie, Tears of a Clown, Doors of Your Heart , etc to a predominately white audience. Bewildering? Yes! for a moment. Until I used that observed weirdness to map and safeguard my immersion into LA culture.
that was then Germany has past us now we are supposed to be multileracial now but we hardly have any reggae on the radio or ska on the radio that's why we need the beat back to mash up the station with the truth!!!! murder style
+katoness Maybe they're not used to this kind of music. I remember the Beat saying that when they played support to the Pretenders in the USA they got a rock audience and people just stood there and gawped.
@@mlwsf Rockpalast, on German WDR station, was/(is?) usually a regular gig but with a camera crew to record for TV. They also recorded and aired a lot of festival shows, which I think they still do, with some of them online now. Or at least they were pretty recently (sorry, I can't be arsed to check right now).
Hell's teeth, man, Germany - what gives? 'Why I cry' both beats and pre-empts the current stab-in-the-dark world of televisual subtitling and is also hilarious. Stand down Margaret even now chimes loud and clear, perhaps more so...brilliant post nevertheless - ta!
Not just TV subtitles. I have a Sting bootleg album, where several titles are plain wrong, but the biggest error is the song "Low Life" (a Police single b-side), which is called "Lola". :-/
Thanking Roger for the love, the energy, just the joy of music as an important part of human life.
Thanks to everyone in the industry who kept footage safe and available again.❤
One of the greatest bands ever, that more of the world should have discovered long ago.

A day after Rankin Roger's passing, thank you.
First heard the beat open for the clash in the '80's.
Wish i remembered better, still makes me smile.
The great Saxa.
peace, love and unity xxxxxxxxxxxx
❤
R.I.P. Roger, Everett and Saxa.
Yes , peace be with you all . We will miss you , but never forget.
Such a great band!
Pure gold , classic ska done right. Twist and crawl .
Been a fan for 45 years pure class back in the day 👌
This is simply EPIC!
Awesome band. Going to see Dave in Boston soon. Miss Saxa, Roger and Everett.
Dave still puts on a heck of a show.

You live on in our hearts, forever, one love xx
two brilliant ska covers here; imo "Tears Of A Clown" and "Can't Get Used To Losing You" are better than the originals
Can't Get Used to Losing You is my favorite.
I agree, but this video is worth watching: ua-cam.com/video/ZaMX0Cs5Bc4/v-deo.html
Tears of a clown is the definition of how to do a cover.
Absolutely brilliant x
going too see them may 23 at the de la warr pavillion! bitter sweet last time was with roger but no dave! 😢
What a joyful sound
Fare thee well, Ranking Roger
One of the great, great Two-tone's, shame that the remaining boys don't get together and play fer fun.
The Greatest band on this planet EVER !!!!
Fantastic!
Forgot how great they were...
Two Swords....
that was then Germany has past us now we are supposed to be multileracial now but we hardly have any reggae on the radio or ska on the radio that's why we need the beat back to mash up the station with the truth!!!! murder style
ps check out mini Murphy which side of the bed free style I got more to up load
Do it yourself Kenny! Cerate the music you want to hear so others can hear it!
LOVE THE TOASTING!
They called Wine and Grine "Why I Cry". Haha.
Did they cry, because Margaret refused to stand down? This is still my favorite political protest song.
RIP Roger
Blessss XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
SAXA.....god bless you
Blimey, a cover of Pussy Price? Imagine a group covered this song in 2016? Social media would skin them alive.
+SoulStylistJukeBox But there'd also be a lot of people who would love it (and I don't just mean men)!
Grandes los Beat
R.I.P Ranking Roger!!!
SAXA !!!
He always was the seventh
Saxa was the man.
Excellent performance from The Beat but whats with the crowd?

It's a German Studio audience. Lol

noice...
What's up with that first song ?
Saxa use to play for the original singer of that song.
@@kooljsl
Yes, he worked with the ska/rocksteady/early reggae greats of the 1960s such as Laurel Aitken and Prince Buster.
Dave blockhead Wright never credited enougth
What a dead, German audience. Not deserving of this great band!!
RIP Roger
