I was brutally hacking around making a logo for someone and I've NEVER used Illustrator before. It was all going fine enough until the brush stroke I turned into an object that retained its "artistic" texture needed a stroke. When I tried, the stroke went nuts and looked like a cactus. Your tutorial saved my ass!

You can expand the stroke outwards instead of inward and outward, through the expanded Stroke panel when you click the little up and down arrow next to Stroke at the top of the panel. Then align the stroke to the outside. This will keep your type from filling up inwards and ruining it fyi!

this was mostly working for me but the letters and offset path wouldn't connect as one continuous line after I grouped it. after i looked at another tutorial though, i hit CMD + 8 or CTRL +8 to create a compound path. hope that helps anyone who might also have issues with it!

Drop shadows don't scale they redraw when the object is transformed because they are an effect in Illustrator. Outside of Illustrator not so much.
