Tim, you nailed us. Good catch. To be very honest we were paid the exact same amount of money by Dodge that you were paid by Chevy to make this comment.
Roman did his job and you are watching it. There were over 100 other journalist on this trip. We would suggest that you watch their video reviews. Please send us the link when you find those reviews.
I had my first experience in a 2012 Ram.. it didn't have the new air suspension, but I was impressed at how well it towed. with about 4,000 lbs on the hitch, you could even tell it was there at 70 mph. there was no wobble, no sway, it was extremely smooth and quiet. the Ram is no joke people.. this coming from a Ford guy.
4X4 adds lots weight...so it slows down the truck. The added traction of a 4X4 might make for a slightly faster time off the line but the added weight will slow down the truck to a much greater extent.
I recently bought a 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie and I cannot be any happier with it. I also have a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado and they're are both excellent trucks but the Ram is more high quality and a more powerful engine.
I have to say, I like how Dodge didn't provide bare-bones models of their competitors and compared them fairly with trim levels in relatively the same price range. I'm a Ford guy, but I thought it was unfair when Ford and Chevy did comparisons to their competitors, they would be comparing their top trim level against bottom of the line to mid-level trims. One of the better reviews I've seen of these trucks. Thanks Roman for a good review.
I have 13' Ram 1500 big horn Copperhead pearl awesome truck not many Copperhead pearl trucks out there. I think am going with a Granite color quad cab 16' model end of August
tghetto5 I had a 96 trans am and now a 14 ram reg cab shortbed express blackout edition 4x4. the truck only has the 6spd transmission tho but with mods, my truck is just as quick as the trans am was. Trans am I clocked at 5.85 seconds 0-60, I clocked my truck at 5.9 seconds. not bad for a 4x4 truck.
No acceleration test of the Chevy, no test of the Ford V-8. Ford's turbo 6 is EPA rated WORSE than the V-8's, and has more high-speed moving parts and operates under higher pressure. Bottom line: Worthless test. I want my 7:49 back.
The ram's air suspension is terrible I know who is testing with ford they test on my fathers truck. They compared a brand new ram suspension to the tested one on my fathers 250 and there was such a large ride difference. The test driver did the "river bed" with one hand compared to the slow two and approach he had to do with the ram. And i quote "why would they release such shit." said the test driver.
@@lienyaregiap I know this video as well as your comment are very old but figured this might help someone watching an old video like me. You mentioned the rams air suspension is terrible, yet when you made that comment it hardly even had time to be tested. I personally know someone who has a 2014 ram with the air ride that very regularly tows upwards of 7000lbs and has had zero issues with the system, it also has no problems leveling out the truck even with more tongue weight than it probably should have. Just figured a long term update would be better than the nonsense you spewed not even 2 years after the system was released.
@ThaGVPSon My comment also applies to your comment as well. Again 2014 ram 1500 with the air ride, around 120k miles and regularly tows. The air ride has had zero issues and has proven to be very reliable.
I just spent about 10 days driving a Dodge Ram 1500 rental while waiting for an insurance settlement. That was quite a beast with a surprisingly refined interior. When it came time to buy a truck Saturday, though, I went with an F150 STX. It's a pretty spartan version of the F150 but it has the 5.0 liter engine and a transmission cooler for pulling my bass boat.
they're are goods and bads in all of these trucks. I personally prefer the ram. I Bought a 2002 4.7 v8 4wd new in 2002 still have it to this day. has 173,000 and still going strong. never had one ounce of mechanical issues. isn't over-using oil, doesn't run hot. the only bad thing I would say about this truck is that it only gets 15 mpg highway and 17 mpg city. which isn't that bad for a full size truck but it would be nice if it was around the 20 mark. I believe dodge has dramatically improved the mpg in the new trucks which should be a seller. Now, this is thing. when it comes to hauling loads, cows, hay, etc.. nothing is going to beat the cummins diesel. no, not the power choke, or the duracrap. Cummins will put them all to shame any day of the week.
with the hemi in the dodge , it doesnt really kick in until after 65 mph. and it has a valve system that shuts off two cylenders to save money. i have gotten 22 mpg
The ram is by far the sportiest without the shitty prehistoric leaf spring rear suspension it corners way better the the coil sprung or air rear suspension
Leaf springs are not that bad. They ride better when loaded and are pretty much fail safe unlike air which are much more complex compared to a simple leaf spring
Yeah as soon as you hit a bump at 60 pulling a trailer and get the death wobbles and end up jackknifed in the ditch, let me know how much you wanna bitch about those "shitty leaf springs" that ford and Chevy use
I know the Chevy would have lost by a mile from real world experience but out of curiosity what was the 0-60? Also it is important to know the rear end ratio in all 3 thrucks
Hpr1993 probably because it’s too embarrassing. And I’m not saying that as a ford fan. I’m saying that because of facts. The 5.3 is so underpowered it’s ridiculous. You have to tune it just to get it to reach the stock 0-60 of the f150. It’s sad.
Sorry, but these press events are tricky. We only have a very limited amount of time with each vehicle and we just couldn't swing a 0-60 MPH time with the Chevy. Other journalist wanted to drive it.
Brandon 918 I would hope he hasn’t had any problems at barely 100,000 miles. That’s hardly any miles at all lol. But my dads friend bought an 08 dually Cummins with 75,000 miles on it and before it hit 85,000 miles it blew the motor so I guess it can happen lol.
Old Smokey Well it has the torque of a V8 in the same power band of a V8, it makes similar if not better hp than a V8. It is a logical replacement for the big 'ol 8 cylinder lugger. I will give you two things though, who knows how long these engines will last and they will never have the muscular sound of a crossplane V8.
The rotary knob is for only the 8spd transmission. He said mid level and higher but the 3.6 pentastar engine (base engine) is ONLY available with an 8 spd. So yes you can get a V6 base model work truck with the 8spd. Its just the hemi that it is optional over the 6spd auto.
Tóke are you really that ignorant to think GM is the only company that has ever took billions from the government?? Now,I'm sure you'll come back with a smart ass remark but it doesn't change anything.
Sorry, but we just ran out of time to do a 0-60 MPH in the Chevy. There was only 1 Chevy at the Press Launch and about 25 journalist. We had very very limited time in the Ford and the Chevy.
That's what's great though! Those that want the tech can have it and those that don't, don't have to. Although the new GM and Fords both come with full touch screens as an option, but then the RAM can be had without all of the tech as well. I personally like the tech. I use it for more than hauling loads/tools though.
Trucks are for work you take the whole definition of work out of the truck when you add tons of tec into It chevy know what they are doing keep it a truck not a sports car
im just saying, i have owned every brand of truck, i started with a 98' Ram 1500 with a 5.2L Magnum ( sold to a friend still running today at 200,000+ miles) , then i owned a 2001 Ford F-150 ( Sold to my pastor Still running coming up on almost 250,000 miles) , then i had a 2001 Chevy Silverado ( sold that to my brother in law still running at 160,000) all three trucks had been pretty much driven hard, but i kept up the maintenance and it proves that no matter what you buy, if you take care of it they will last you a long time, now i am happy to say i have bought a 2012 Ram 5.7L Hemi 4x4 with 33,000 miles , but im looking to take care of her and keep the truck for a long time
dodge and Chevy would be the best two overall. don't buy a ford. (f)ix (o)r (r)epair (d)aily or you'll be sorry. but don't worry ford lovers. ford is coming out with a heated tailgate so your hands don't get cold while your pushing it home this winter.
Roman, What rear gear ratios were the trucks you tested? The big 3 offer many different rear axle ratios with there trucks, which makes it hard to do apples to apples comparisons. An ecoboost with a 3.15 rear-end is probably gonna make great mileage for a truck, but it might not tow or perform like the HEMI with the 3.92 rear end, which will more than likely make abysmal mileage. I was just wondering, is this something that is considered when getting tester trucks? Thanks.
I've noticed more when manufacturers present a new or redesigned vehicle at a press event, they bring along the competitors of their vehicle. To some people this may seem stupid, but I think it's a smart idea.
Casey McIntyre It still does the work stuff when I need it to. I pull a 9000lbs dump trailer with it atleast 1 time per week. Its nice to know that when I am on that merge lane and need to get in front of the car next to me, I can do so with no problem
We do real world testing under real world conditions. Sure you can get the faster 0-60 MPH times at a drag strip with a 120 pound driver, one gallon of gas, multiple launches, and sticky surface...Good luck doing that in the real world. So the "trick" is believing that just because Motortrend did it...you, or the Ford can do it at 'home".
You know I'm preferential to the RAM, I grew up around Dodges and love the way they look. My grandfather owns a 2012 Ford F-150 Platinum CC , and my brother owns a 2007 Chevy Silverado CC, I'm about to buy a 2014 (well get as a graduation gift) RAM 1500 Sport 4x4 CC. I'd say that they all look relatively well, I don't really like the Ford's front fascia, but nonetheless I kinda agree with Roman, Chevy-Traditional Ford-a bit Sporty RAM-Little bit of both. All good trucks in my opinion, and all will last so long as they are treated as apart of the family.
what are you talking about, that was the shittiest review ive ever seen, he spent 2 minutes skimming over the basics and then did a pointless 0-60 test.
Ram hood looks awesome. 5.7 hemi shuts down 4 cylinders on freeway for better mileage. No turbo to replace but 16 plugs to change. Was Ford owner but switch to Ram. Power is amazing.
I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Express. 5.7 Hemi. Regular Cab, 4x4, 3.55 gears. My 0-60 time is right around 7 seconds bone stock. The 2wd Express with 3.92's does 0-60 in about 6 seconds, bone stock. I test drove one before I bought my 4x4.

just curious, what year was it. i know they had that problem between 1999 and 2005 mostly with the transmission but that actually wasnt a dodge/chrysler trans. i forgot who supplied them but they dont use that company anymore for those. actually very recently i know someone who had the trans. poop out on his 2005 ram 2500 4x4 magnum v10 and he wasnt rough with it. i havent heard of anything major like that happening after 2006. ive owned dodges and never had a problem like that myself
I would love to see all the V8's boosted and compared. Again realize that the Ford V8 is 32 valves and Chev & Dodhe are only 16. My son recently put a procharger with 6lbs boost on his 32 valve 4.6, it dynoed out at 470 hp at the crank. The 5.0 Ford runs 412 in a Mustang GT NA. I'm sure the detuned 5.0 in the truck could be easily brought up to the GT's standards.
I am a ram guy through and through. I will admit however, that I love all three of those in their respective generations here. The 07-13 Silverado, and 05-14 f150. (Pardon if I am off on the years for the generations)
What was the gear ratio in those trucks. I know the Ram has 4:10 optional. I noticed he power launched the Ford and started from 0 rpm in the Dodge. If I wanted a sport truck I would buy the R/T Ram with 4:10 gears.
Who cares how quickly a truck can go from 0-60! I would much rather see a full review of each truck and a full comparison of each as well. I'm in the process of deciding between all 3 and a nice comparison test would have been much better.
EXACTLY. I have a 2012 F-150, and a 2010 Chevy Malibu. Excellent vehicles. Years ago I had a 1998 dodge plymouth mini van. On vacation in florida it left us stranded for 3 extra days. It had like 20000 miles on it, and ended up adding another 3000 dollar expense to our trip. Will never buy a dodge again. If you do you need to plan to buy another transmission by AT LEAST 100000 miles.
I have a 2012 F150. Every month it's in the dealer. They can't seem to figure out why my truck shakes at idle and why the steering rack makes popping noises when I go over bumps. The transmission also clunks and jolts when shifting and coming to a stop. Got my truck back yesterday from the dealer, they changed the motor mounts and re-installed the exhaust. Truck is still shaking at idle. Wish I bought a ram.
my wife just traded her hemi in for an avalanche, she said her dodge wasn't just uncomfortable but was a gutless pony when it came to pulling a trailer, the junker couldn't even pull an empty hot tub with out wining the whole way! oh and the avalanche pulled a 2 horse trailer loaded to Sask and back to Alberta, no complaints.
out of curiosity what qualifies you to make that statement are you an automotive engineer? or just a fanboy with no real eveidence one way or the other?
Sources? What is the total swept area of the F-150's brakes? What is the thickness of the F-150's rotors? The Ram utilizes thicker rotors, as well as larger rear brakes. And what is the comparison on motor mounts? There is no apples to apples comparison. 2013 Ram uses aluminum lower control arms.
Ok so im in market for a truck as a everyday vehicle n not to tow on a regular more less to drive everyday..so between 2011/2012. Ford f15, chevy silverado and dodge ram 1500?? Wat should I get and why plz help thanks
I don't work for ford, I just did a lot if reaserch before I spent over $35000 for a half ton. The ring & pinion in the rear end of the ford is also thicker. I wanted a truck that could pull my trailer every day, all day. I'm glad I did. Nothing comes even close. I tested a tundra, ram, silverado, Titan, and the ford. The ford pulls straighter and feels safer.
Why doesn't anyone run the big boy half tons? I wanna see a 6.2 ford and Chevy duke it out. Curious to see what my 2013 Silverado 6.2 1500 would do with 3.73 gears
Being pro-Dodge/Ram, I like the Ram 1500, although I would ask to have an ignition key and a column or console shifter (if possible). To be fair though, Ford and GM have nice trucks too.
Also don't forget that stock rams are programed for average driving conditions and gas savings not 0-60 conditions. Get a superchip programmer to fine tune it in performance mode and you can make that dodge roar across the pavement.
Tim, you nailed us. Good catch. To be very honest we were paid the exact same amount of money by Dodge that you were paid by Chevy to make this comment.

Its sad they don't share the gearing for each truck which would play a major part in this 0-60 run
Roman, what was the best 0-60 time on the Silverado? Great review on three great looking trucks!
what are you talking about, that was the shittiest review ive ever seen, he spent 2 minutes skimming over the basics and then did a pointless 0-60 test.
Ram hood looks awesome. 5.7 hemi shuts down 4 cylinders on freeway for better mileage. No turbo to replace but 16 plugs to change. Was Ford owner but switch to Ram. Power is amazing.
Great review he tries to be as unbiased as possible.
So you can get arrested for street racing faster than the other two brands. We're all really impressed.

Can't wait for the review... And perhaps a comparison of the 2013 Ram vs the 2013 F-150? Please?.
just curious, what year was it. i know they had that problem between 1999 and 2005 mostly with the transmission but that actually wasnt a dodge/chrysler trans. i forgot who supplied them but they dont use that company anymore for those. actually very recently i know someone who had the trans. poop out on his 2005 ram 2500 4x4 magnum v10 and he wasnt rough with it. i havent heard of anything major like that happening after 2006. ive owned dodges and never had a problem like that myself
we've had 1997 silverado 5.0 in the family for 15 years and never had a single problem with it
I would love to see all the V8's boosted and compared. I'm sure the detuned 5.0 in the truck could be easily brought up to the GT's standards.
what was that dial on the dash of the dodge he was talking about that reminded him of a jag?
I love how he said " fanboys comment away" hahaha
Back when you could tell trucks apart
100% agree. Throw the Titan in there too. Though I am not a fan of what Ram has done with their suspensions at all, its still a good American truck
I am a ram guy through and through. I will admit however, that I love all three of those in their respective generations here. The 07-13 Silverado, and 05-14 f150. (Pardon if I am off on the years for the generations)
The 12th gen used the 5.4 for two years
What was the gear ratio in those trucks. I know the Ram has 4:10 optional. I noticed he power launched the Ford and started from 0 rpm in the Dodge. If I wanted a sport truck I would buy the R/T Ram with 4:10 gears.
Im a chevy guy and ive done right around 7.58 seconds with my 2011 5.3 silverado
Who cares how quickly a truck can go from 0-60! I would much rather see a full review of each truck and a full comparison of each as well. I'm in the process of deciding between all 3 and a nice comparison test would have been much better.
I have a 2013 Silverado in this same color blue and it looks great
When is the 2013 Ram 1500 coming out? A local dealer told me early next year -.-
I just bought a 2013 Chevy Silverado crew cab. Came to this video for information.. there was none.
Just bought one also and this video wasted my time. I'm just just curious how many miles do you have on yours I bought mine with 111000 for 18000
Bought it for 18k 118k miles
How y'all's Chevy doing?
Hey were these tests at a mile above sea level as well or lower?
A that time the RAM was the only good-looking truck. But the new F-150 looks quite good too.
Yea! what did the chevy do in the 0 to 60 test? Whats up with that ?
I have a 2012 F150. Every month it's in the dealer. They can't seem to figure out why my truck shakes at idle and why the steering rack makes popping noises when I go over bumps. The transmission also clunks and jolts when shifting and coming to a stop. Got my truck back yesterday from the dealer, they changed the motor mounts and re-installed the exhaust. Truck is still shaking at idle. Wish I bought a ram.
Where's the Tradesman review? It was mentioned at the end of the video but I can't find it.
my wife just traded her hemi in for an avalanche, she said her dodge wasn't just uncomfortable but was a gutless pony when it came to pulling a trailer, the junker couldn't even pull an empty hot tub with out wining the whole way! oh and the avalanche pulled a 2 horse trailer loaded to Sask and back to Alberta, no complaints.
out of curiosity what qualifies you to make that statement are you an automotive engineer? or just a fanboy with no real eveidence one way or the other?
Does the Big Horn come with a rotary selector switch?
Did I miss something or did they not show the silverado 0-60 run because I have a 09 and when it was stock it could get under 7 seconds easily
What was the time of the Silverado, so bad you couldn't show it?? I'm a Chevy guy myself.
Curious to see what my 2013 Silverado 6.2 1500 would do with 3.73 gears
hunter roberts fucking fly. That was the first thing I did to mine
Can't wait to see Rams new v6 diesels in their half tons next year.
Being pro-Dodge/Ram, I like the Ram 1500, although I would ask to have an ignition key and a column or console shifter (if possible). To be fair though, Ford and GM have nice trucks too.
i have a 94 black lightning! and i hope at some point they all do a bad ass street truck again!
Also don't forget that stock rams are programed for average driving conditions and gas savings not 0-60 conditions. Get a superchip programmer to fine tune it in performance mode and you can make that dodge roar across the pavement.
