I use the 400D with a 18-55mm IS lens for street photography at nearby mercados. The locals seem friendlier when I use a “serious-looking” camera. I feel more comfortable because the camera is cheaply and easily replaceable. DXO takes care of lens corrections.
Great video. I use a 400D and was looking to upgrade to a 7D but think I'll keep using this and experiment with it a bit longer after see the shots you have been getting from it 👍
@@ozanaktas8064 You aren't kidding. I just got mine out of storage and started messing with it. I forgot how mechanical and electrical the shutter/mirror actuation sounds. Got it way back in 06.
Hey James just found your channel and I’m enjoying it a lot! I’ve just gotten into photography and I’m using my parents’ old 400D, do you know of any compatible lenses that you would recommend for a beginner that would be useful for all types of photography? Thank you and love the content 👍
Thanks Toe. Although my name is Chris 😂. I’d look at picking up a 10-18 EF-S lens and maybe a 50mm 1.8 for general use. They’re a good little camera, basic, but that doesn’t mean bad. Hope you enjoy using it and thanks for checking in on the channel. 🤘🏻🍻
Those cameras are actually still good for RE photography specifically if you can do the three different exposure for hdr. For Re photography you won't need more than 10mpx for picture.
Hey man you've really inspired me. I was looking for reviews in this camera as I've found a couoke of affordable ones but was worried that I'd be getting some rubbish given the age but seeing your photos I'm now thinking I can do the same or at least try to. 👍. Also what lense are you using?
Hi, i'm a student looking for a budget camera to go travelling with my friends. We wanted to watch the northern lights. May i know if this camera is able to get a good shot of aurora? Or do you have other suggestions? I would like to get a compact camera if possible, but i am fine either or 😊
This camera would catch it, I’d recommend grabbing something like a 50D that at least comes with live view so you can see your exposure in real time if you’re shooting out at night though.
Great video. Can you advise me if you'd recommend this camera. I am brand new to photography and do not own any camera at all. This kind of camera is all I can afford. Would this be a good starting point? They are around £100 used and some have the zoom lens too
Hello chris In Canon 400d camera, we can bring the image we see in the viewfinder to the camera monitor? And the next question is, can we reduce the camera timer time? Thank you bro !
No the camera doesn’t have live view. It’s viewfinder only. You can reduce it to 2 seconds in the custom menu by turning mirror lockup on. Otherwise it’s just 10 seconds.
I bought one of these for my wife. Unfortunately I am having trouble deciding what memory card to buy. I originally bought a 512 GB SD card and CF adapter. Yeah, it didn't like that. I'm guessing it's an issue with the adapter. I know older hardware sometimes has trouble addressing large memory cards and I found a lot of conflicting information on what the maximum card size is that is still compatible with the XTi. I have read literally read articles and forums claiming 512 MB max, 2GB max, 2 GB min, 4 GB max, 8 GB max, 32 GB max, and no max all for this exact model. Very frustrating. So I'd rather ask someone who owns one directly. What is the maximum memory size you have been able to use with this camera? And what is the file format and sector size?
@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto Update. It turns my SD card wasn't seated properly in the adapter. After fixing that it worked perfectly, although 512 GB really is insane overkill. Each photo is only about 12 MB, so that's over 42,000 photos.
Yeah it would work fine with a good lighting setup. The lack of live view might be tricky to work around but if it’s your first camera you should get on just fine with it.
@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto thanks for contacting me back. I’m confused on the 100mm lens. Is it a certain type that goes with the camera? I just bought a light setup
@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto Thanks for your input. I checked the Pentax K10D at a local shop today and it was heavy and bulky for my little hands. Canon 400D is lighter, I might just go for that instead. ☺️
@@SharDances the 400D is a tiny camera and doesn’t weigh much at all. It’s a little plastic for my taste against my other cameras but it’s very capable. I’m only 5ft 6 and quite small in the hands department and the smaller cameras have been fine for me.
@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto Haha. Thank you! I'm glad to know that. I'm a tiny, under 5 ft girl so most things are big for me. LOL So this is good to know. I saw some being sold at reasonable prices too. ☺️

Chris, it would be interesting to see what the difference in images is actually like between the 2
Thank you Chris I love old DSLR cameras. Have the 400 and 500
That 400D was a great, fun, little camera to use!
This was my first proper digital camera. Bought it in 2007. Many memorable photos made.
My first was the 350D, it’s baby brother in a way. Still nice cameras despite time passing them by.
Mine too. The best shutter sound ever created!

I still have my old XTI. Longer shutter exposures seem to be a good use for this old camera.

Should i buy a 400D or a Fujifilm Finepix S2500HD? I am looking to get into photography in a budget.
