No it was not. Several malls pre-date it. The first mall built in the country is Southdale Center in Edina, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. It opened to the public in 1956.
The only Malls on this list that I ever visited were South Coast Plaza and Del Amo Fashion Center.
