You know what funny classmate rule our monopoly have loan from bank( of course, came with a interest of 0.5% for each turn. A player who can`t pay the loan to the bank after 10 of their turns is considered bankrupt and lose the game. I wonder if insurance could work in monopoly though, could be fun?

It artificially makes the game longer while ruining the fundamentals of the game: winning by getting monopolies. And it limits the cash the bank has, which prevents the game from being played properly. Monopoly is designed around being frustrating and unfair.

My family always used it as "you have the choice to stop your roll here", as in if you rolled and one of your spaces was Free Parking, you could end your roll there. It was helpful to fix up your roll to get the really good businesses just after Free Parking.

Every single person that has played monopoly and is a seasoned player of it knows that nothing happens on that space , it's there because the makers of the game couldn't think of anything to put there and they couldn't just leave that corner of the board empty so they chose to just put a parking spot there so the players can utilize the space.

Every time we play monopoly we make it clear what rules we are playing. We mostly go by normal rules but rules like this in our opinion make the game funner. I wouldn’t say changing the rules are bad or keeping them are bad, it’s just about how you like to play and have the most fun

The free parking jackpot thing is why people think monopoly is such a long game. If you play it by the rules it doesn’t take very long
Well in my family we made that if you land on free parking you can choose wherever you can go but before you can use free parking you need to pass the starting line first

The jackpot in the middle makes it more fun tho. You could be basically broke and then come back at the top within a single turn.
Iirc my dad said our rule was the "jackpot" started at 100 dollars, and chance and community chests contribute to the jackpot. It can either expand a game a bit or make it massively shorter depending on who gets that money.
I know nothing happens on free parking but its a cool custom thing to add and makes the game a bit more fun when you get that jackpot or, see someone get that jackpot
I play as the jackpot comes from Bills, Chance and Community Chest cards if they say to pay; otherwise you give directly to people.

There's actually a version of regular monopoly that I have that says the jackpot rule is optional
They should change that space to "lottery" and keep the rule about winning the middle jackpot. That rule makes the game a lot more interesting
It only makes it 5 hours longer.
The reason it gets confused is with all the variants of monopoly, some of them do give you the money, and its easy to mix up variants
The free jackpot in the center makes it more fun
but at the cost of weakening the lower end properties and extending the length of the game.

People play that way because they say “oh the free parking space cant do NOTHING! That would be boring!” But a space with nothing is more interesting than every space. Every space does something, majority of them do the same thing, so a space that does nothing is the least basic thing possible.

The way i played it was every time someone would pass go, 15-20 would be added to the middle, depending on the amount of players. Then, if you landed on free parking, you would get it. Having it just be a random space seems a bit boring

Every single person that has played monopoly and is a seasoned player of it knows that nothing happens on that space , it's there because the makers of the game couldn't think of anything to put there and they couldn't just leave that corner of the board empty so they chose to just put a parking spot there so the players can utilize the space.
The real rule that nobody follows is the auction rule. If somebody lands on a property but doesn’t buy it, it goes up for auction.
