- What's up guys! Today's video is explosive speed exercises for athletes. These are 9 top exercises we love to use for first step speed training for quickness. Your first couple steps are critical to exploding out when sprinting, and this is where a lot of athletes lose speed. No encoders is just going to cause you a whole lot of headache. Don’t solve a hardware problem with software.
In the first drill your foot strikes way in front of the body. Wouldn't that be like decelerating or breaking? Isn't that bad for acceleration?
The first drill is all about the start, not the steps. It trains an explosive 1st step, with proper force application, an aggressive knee drive, and a good lean. Sometimes, we have to break down skill into a step by step, so while typically your foot in front does resemble braking, in this case, the drill is for the first step. This is where a majority of athletes lack mechanics and explosion.
