- Driving around in a 1991 Ford Mustang LX Convertible.
Some vehicle specs:
5.0 Liter 16 valve OHV V8
225 Horsepower
300 Lb-Ft Torque
5 Speed Manual Transmission
Rear Wheel Drive
This generation Mustang is known as the "Fox Body" generation, running from 1979-1993 and sharing its chassis with other vehicles from the time. This was one of the two times in history the Mustang had a rebadged cousin, in the form of the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri. Every few model years had some minor changes, but the biggest refresh was the 1987 model year, completely overhauling the looks of the front end and interior.
A breakdown of the model years:
1979-82 - First model years, all noted for quad headlights and vertical tail lights
1983-86 - Some updated styling, revised horizontal tail lights
1987-90 - Elimination of quad headlights, all-new interior
1990-93 - New wheel choices, driver side airbag, 140 mph speedometer
Fun Facts:
'79 known for the Indy 500 Pace Car
'82 marks return of Mustang GT, first time since 1969
'83 marks return of a convertible, first time since 1973
'84 introduces 5 speed manual transmission and new SVO trim
'86 introduces fuel injection for all 5.0 V8 engines
'87 retunes the 5.0 V8 to make 225 hp/300 lb-ft, all new styling in and out
'90 adds airbag and 140 mph speedometer
'91 adds the "star" wheels
'93 offers a Cobra trim

140 mph speedometer came out in 89. 89 (88 in California) was also the first year for a mass air flow sensor which made the mustang more responsive to engine upgrades.
ive had many of 88s and 87s with 140mph seedos
I have 2 89 convertibles: 2.3 LX & 5.0 LX.
My 91 gt conv . Is a 5.0 5 speed! Fun enough for me!
Your ash tray door still works😯
Mine just broke 😒
Nice ride, same color as my 88 GT convertible, looks real good in bright sun light. These are one of the funnest cars u will ever drive, & I've owned all the most popular muscle cars from the 60 to the 70's. A 5 spd. Fox body Mustang, for their day was the car to own & is starting to be the car to have again. If you can buy one now is the time, because they are rising in value. Anyway good video. 🇺🇸 MERICA!
What is that
What
Isn't the convertible way heavier?
Those old stangs sound great
Wish I had that engine mine is a 4 cylinder convertible 91
Sell it , and buy a 5.0 fox body , not that hard tbh might get one for 2,300
@@CarlosGonzalez-ki1kq LMAO if you can get them for $2300 I'll take six. The prices for a decent one are way more than that
this video makes me wanna get one even more
my dad recently spoke to me about helping me get a more reliable car.. old foxbody mustangs came up because they're easier to work on than new cars.. this is very exciting.
If you're looking for a stock one be prepared to shell out some $$
@@joejones5653 I've seen a few decent options around where I live for less than 8k. usually around 5000
@@TheCaffeinator All stock? If so snap up one or two. Bring them north and sell them for a nice $$
@@joejones5653 they really sell higher up there huh? Interesting... I'll keep that in mind
@@TheCaffeinator Oh yeah. Gotta remember that fox bodies rust pretty easy when exposed to the corrosive salt of the northern roads so there aren't many nice ones left. Even shady modified ones are going for 8K plus..
I saw one guy sell an 88 GT 30000 miles and get $15K for it in one day. One guy has one advertised on Craigslist for $19K 90 GT with 14000 miles. Convertibles go for less. I guess nobody want them.
Great video! I only wish it was longer! Back in the 90's, I had one exactly like this, except it was bright red. I sold it because I was "becoming an adult" and thought it was too much of a "kid's car". Stupidest move ever. Since then I've owned many other "kid's cars" including a 472 Hemi 64 Plymouth, a 68 Charger, a 71 Barracuda, a 68 Mustang fastback, etc and none were as fun to drive as that darned 91 Mustang.
The only thing I changed from stock were the mufflers and the rear gear set. The rear gear set change from a 2.79 to a 3.55 really woke the car up! What rear gear is in the Mustang in your video?
Not a Ford fan but this car is cool and clean, nice video and nice camera mount! No vibrations
My guy….you’re defeating the purpose of a convertible with the top down and windows up 🤦♂️
For the 5.0 the LX had to have come standard with a limited slip diff right?
These cars don't have the HP of today's sports car, but they are SO much fun to drive.
But they are way lighter
@@martinn9485 true
These cars ran mid to high 13s with the 10 minute tuneup back in the 80s due to a 3000 lb curb weight, 300+ ft*lbs at the crank, and a 3.35 1st gear. Swap the rear for 3.73s and you’re as quick as any stock Coyote from a light.
@@FancyAnimal already have the 3:73 💪
@@jpp9846 👍🏼
How reliable are they?
Clean convertible, I couldn't live with the luggage rack on the back trunk.
Anyone sees this, my dad bought a ‘92 mustang, I’m debating on buying it from him, but I jus want to know if they’re is any mods for it, it is a V8 engine after all, if anyone knows of any mods for the ‘92 version lmk
Hella, you can buy some modded up cheap too. I Bought a '91 doing 300+ for 3500. check offerup. btw 86-93 are given more love when it comes to aftermarket modifications
It's worth more if you leave it stock
@@FIVEOFEVER stock is no fun tho 💪
@@jpp9846 Try selling a modified Mustang. People are always suspicious of how well it was taken car of. You'll get more money out of a stock one. If you want a modified Mustang buy a cheap one and mod it the way you want.
@@joejones5653 never said they weren't worth more in stock form, re-read my comment a few times it might stick. I said stock Mustangs are BORING.
That said, if you're buying a car for your friends to look at in your garage and rarely be driven, by all means, buy and keep a stock Mustang around and "look" at it.
And if you can find a "cheap Foxbody" point me to it....this isn't 2002 anymore. Even the most ragged out Fox is at least $5k
