Once I check further as to what ODFW decides I'll let you know.

Thanks for spending time looking into this and informing everyone what you found great video Steve 👍🤠
If they can confuse you they can fine you...
Odfw put out a paper last year that they handed out at the salt show stating you could longleader with all depth halibut. I believe I have it in my boat and will post a pic of it in the Newport FB page.
That is very frustrating! Thank you for sharing my friend!
Thanks Mark for checking in
ODFW had a pretty easy to understand picture last year and again this year for halibut fishing and what you are allowed to combine it with. I know plenty of people that combine those two trips all the time in Garibaldi.
Which is fine if you do halibut first
There should be a law that if they cannot understand or explain it the law cannot be enforced.
Agreed
I go out knowing if ODFW wants more revenue so the regulations are written to be confusing and left open to interpretation by law enforcement.
Great video Steve. I have always felt like you needed a lawyer to read the regulations.
Thanks Derek
That’s what I hated about fishing in WA. The regulation book was like a Novel. Thickest reg book I’ve ever seen to this day.
At least you have an email that you could show someone who is trying to write you up on it.
Sigh, ODFW…….this confusion is similar to the free fishing weekend. To tag or not to tag that weekend. This needs to be cleared up as well.
I cannot tell you how many wyoming game and fish employees have told me misinformation
Interesting I am glad the government allows us to fish... fml
Enjoy fishing 🎣
Always
Great video Steve.
Thanks
It's not the first time the odfw made a mess of "laws". I remember a certain law about carrying while bowhunting that they got in trouble for.
It would have been good to say in the video you need to halibut fish with longleader gear after acquiring the 5 fish general marine bag limit longleader species.
I’m sorry that ODFW seems to be wishy washy about the regulations and causing so much grief and confusion. It’s very frustrating to hear policymakers fail over and over and spew misinformation about. Hopefully they’ll clear things up before we get ticketed!
True Ken, thanks for your support
Got to love the gov
not
Piece of work - let's confuse everyone. Wyoming is no different
Just get rid of a ton of these regulations for sports fishing, we don't put a dent in the population the way commercial does.
Good point
ODFW has to be one of the biggest clown shows in the long, sad, list of government entities. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
I agree that odfw rules are sometimes very confusing.
Looks like im gonna need to borrow that email. Lol
lol
I was fishing in a reservoir that had some recycled steelhead from the river stocked in it. The trout regulations are one fish over 20 inches. I had a steelhead tag with a 2 fish daily limit. I asked the ODFW officer if the rule was one fish or 2? They couldn’t answer my question.
There ya go
You're not saying anything wrong... The government has a tendency to be a tad incompetent at times😂
But so true
Does ODFW make law? I don't think so. That's the legislatures job. There is no more Chevron Deference.
They have the same type of rule with coho and bottom fish in the ocean. You can’t bottom fish in the ocean if you have already caught Coho I don’t know it’s just confusing.
Actually you can bottom fish as long as your hooks are barbless.
@@SteveFromWyoming that’s right it’s something like that. If you have Coho on the boat, you can’t use barbed hooks.
This is the same agency that makes it cheaper for a non-resident to buy 3 single day fishing licenses with shellfish than to buy the 3 day license with shellfish, $69 versus $76. Go figure. 🤔
Makes you wonder
You are wrong. Yes! You can fish for halibut after long leader. With long leader gear 30’ off the bottom. It’s very simple to read and understand. Ya poached. it happens.
Haha, yea that makes sense. Is it logical to fish 30 off the bottom for halibut?
The point of the video was to help people understand the regulations, ODFW employees don't even understand them (3 different people in power and different interpretations) . So the regs are NOT easy to understand.
