    Did not think I could learn so much in less than 5 minutes! Last year on vacation definitely had paddle wrong and really did not think about paddle length which pretty much effects all other techniques demonstrated. Well, just booked 2 more for vacation this year and will be a little more informed after watching your video 20 times probably by then... Great explanation of dos and don’t and very easy to comprehend. Thanks.

    Brought my paddle board about 5 wks ago & been out on it in hamble river most days& evenings when tides are good,saw pivot turn technique on tips a week ago so tried it tonight & after a lot of falling off i did it. Found also i can paddle upright with nose of board up in the air as well as paddling backward in a straight line as well. Wish I'd have found paddle boarding years ago cos love it! Can't wait 4 2mor & get bk out.

    It’s critical guidance this. I did most of it wrong with interjections of genius. I need to consistently find a vertical paddle, paddle straight arms and from the core.

    Good point that. This is something yet to be looked at. I will do so. On this Sunday. The weather is looking reasonable. Something else as well. I do have a wetsuit. I think that it's likely to be needed. And with any luck I should be standing up on the board. This time.

      Hi Stephen. Glad you're getting back on the water after winter. Some sunny days ahead! A wetsuit is definitely recommended, especially if you get wet it will keep you nice and warm. Good luck for this session. Thanks, Beau

    Thanks, I’ve found your videos (and reviews) really helpful. One question - as a goofy footed surfer and regular foot snowboarder I have found I am now switching feet on my SUP - usually favouring frontside in both directions. I had a lesson in Portugal the other day and my teacher was incensed. ‘You have to choose’ he said. ‘One day you have to choose are you goofy or regular?’ I wasn’t even aware I was doing it. What’s your view? Is he right? Or can I just keep putting whichever foot forward feels natural? Thanks again

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  5 років тому +1

      Hi Chris. This is a really interesting comment. One of our testers can ride like this and is happy at riding both ways (but he slightly better on one side). Its not that usual for sure. Front side wave riding for most people is the best side to get the most control and power out of a wave. I know that my front side is way better then my back side riding. BUT... if I could ride both ways as good as each other then I would love it. But the chances are in time the better you get at surfing you will start to get a better front side direction (reg or goofy). Then at that point things might change and you may want to stay on one side.
      A question for you is..
      What level surfing SUP are you at. Because if your at a more beginner level, I would say that you haven't got to the point where you need to decide yet and in time it will soon become clear.
      Remember surfing is about style and flow and its a personal thing. You haven't got to do anything. But I would say that you are Reg stance because of your Snowboarding. Another question to ask , is are you happy to ride both sides all the time on your snowboard?
      Let us know , hope that helps Reuben / SUPboarder

      @@SUPboardermag thanks for the reply, I'm an intermediate level. I like your question about the snowboarding... I much prefer snowboarding regular (although switch occasionally). On the SUP I can catch waves ok and make a bottom turn but havent really got a top turn yet. Having got back from a few days surfing in Donegal, I notice I was paddling on the right with my R foot back going into a wave (ending up mainly backside cos of the way the waves were breaking). I didn't catch so many waves. Once or twice I swapped into R foot forward as I caught the wave and instantly felt more comfortable, but it was an awkward move to swap the paddle over and change stance all at once. I think you are right that it will become clear the more I do it. I tend to think the logical will be to end up regular, same as my snowboarding. Thanks again

    If you're a kayaker many of these pro tips are the opposite of what you do in your boat. The only one I got the same was arms/elbows at 90° spread angle. That's the power position.

    My paddle is shaped more like a kayaking paddle, not these angled rectangles. Do I still use it the same way as a kayak or no?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  3 роки тому +1

      Yes still use it like a kayak would.
      You will find if you get an another paddle in the future it will have more of an angle which will be more efficient. But thats something to look at if you want to upgrade. Have fun . Thanks Reuben

  • @swangle

    I've been on my new board 4 times (about an hour each time) and still get really sore ankles and knees. Also, I can't seem to stop my legs from wobbling to keep balance when I'm standing. Is this something that will go away with more practice?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  4 роки тому

      This can be fairly common. It's just because you aren't relaxed. The more you paddle the better you will feel on your board. The flatter the water the better when you start too. Its all about getting your confidence up then you legs will stop wobbling. (as long as your board is the right size and not too small?) Hope that helps Reuben

    I tried this the other day, and didn't like it at all. My legs were trembly, and I never felt confident. I prefer to watch others, and I prefer kayaking lol.

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for your comment JT. Trying to relax the legs when you first start can be the biggest problem. As flat water as possible can make it way easier when you first give it ago. Try it again some day. But as long as your out on the water that's the most important thing...kayak or SUP.

    • @privat8733
      @privat8733 6 років тому +3

      my first 2 times where the same, always trembely legs and afraid to fall. Yesterday the third try and it worked way better, no shaky legs or being afraid. we took a long ride on them and i was able to look around and enjoy. so keep trying, its really fun once you loose the fear. It also helped to go into the water first and swim, then the fear of falling was less too :)
