    Correction:
5:15 I accidentally had the wrong map up.
7:23 I accidentally said Rhode Island instead of Delaware.
I hope you can forgive me.
Which lopsided presidential elections did I miss?

In 1984 it’s notable to point out Minnesota was decided by around 3,000 votes. Simply because Reagan chose not to campaign in the Minneapolis suburbs. Had he done so, he would’ve won all 50 states.

One weird fact about this year's US election is that it's taking place on the 5th of November, which is Guy Fawkes night, one of the main national holidays of the UK. Meanwhile earlier this year the UK had it's election on the 4th of July which is the national holiday of the US.

The advantage of losing by a huge margin is that you'll know that you never stood a chance. If you lose by a few hundred votes in a couple of key swing states you'll always say 'I was this close to winning this close'. But if you lose by a big margin you'll say 'They needed someone to lose I was that person that's it.'

The reason for that incorrect prediction that Alf Landon would win by 57% of the popular vote is actually pretty interesting. The magazine conducted a poll of who people would vote for, but they did so by telephone. During the Great Depression, the only people who could afford a phone were the wealthy: who were far more likely to vote republican than the average man. This led to a biased sample and a laughably inaccurate prediction of the election. This was in my college statistics textbook as an example of challenges in taking polls.

I don't agree with 1820. I don't think 1820 should have been on the list because it was literally uncontested. I think you should only have ranked the contested elections. Here's what I would have done:
#5. 1980 (though the popular vote was much closer)
    #4. 1984
    #3. 1804
    #2. 1972
    #1. 1936

Fun fact: The two states that Charles Cotesworth Pinckney won in the election of 1804 (Connecticut and Delaware) were both states that had their legislatures appoint the electors. That means that Thomas Jefferson won every state that had a popular vote. That is the only time that has ever been done (except for Washington who ran unopposed).

The thing I find to be quite interesting about the most recent "lopsided" elections is that, even though it was a complete landslide victory in terms of the electoral college, the popular vote did not reflect that in the slightest. Just take a look at Reagan in 1984; he got 97.5% of the electoral votes, but didn't even manage to get 60% of the popular vote. Imagine randomly selecting 10 people to vote for something, the vote comes back 6-4, and it is considered a landslide.

I know election season is always tense and full of emotions. Hell, there's a good chance you'll dismiss what I say and jump to conclusions, but no matter who wins there won't be a dictator. We can't be living in absolute fear or anger otherwise that inevitably WILL lead to dictatorial results further down the line. At that point are you truly living if you let this heavily hang on your shoulders this much? As long as you advocate your opinion and keep an open mind, that is what truly matters. And like you said, get out there and vote my friends.

I think for the first two US presidential elections, premodernist's videos are pretty good. They were weird elections by modern standards, and in the first one the primary opposition was not about whether Washington should be the president but whether they should be having these federal elections and a "United States" to begin with, so the primary concern among the federalists was about the vice presidency, since there was a concern that the anti-federalists could vote in a way to prevent John Adams from getting the vice presidency, and sabotage the whole process.
