    You may decide to ditch your laptop for good after you get your hands on the Akai Professional Force standalone sampler and sequencer demonstrated by Sweetwater Sales Engineers Mac Hatton and Ben Robinson. But combined with Ableton Live on your computer, Force becomes one of the most powerful music production systems available. On its own, you have command over powerful sampling capabilities (with real-time time stretching and pitch shifting), looping, four built-in synth engines, clip launching, step sequencing, and even DJ functionality. And Force is also ready to integrate with your favorite hardware, with CV/Gate and MIDI connectivity.
    The Zoom F8N Multitrack Field Recorder was used to record the audio in this video, and can be purchased here: www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...

    Pretty epic.. From a MPC/Pro Tools style DAW background I've always disliked the vertical ableton layout of clips etc even though I know it's crazy powerful. One feature I really need is colourblind support for the RGB. I'm red/green colourblind, I'm sure I can use it and see all the colours but it just adds a level of difficulty & extra unnatural workload to my brain.
    I would def cop one of these.

    • @dubgabriel
      @dubgabriel 5 років тому +3

      @@DolbyAtmosMixing For sure, it looks like a cool stand alone. Obviously, it would be cool if it could support VST from 3rd party too. I have been using Ableton for 17 years, so I don't think I would replace it for this in the studio, but I would replace the laptop for gigging if it supported.als that I could export into.

    • @Ethnikmanofficial
      @Ethnikmanofficial 5 років тому +3

      If it is possible to import .als (Even by ignoring/disabling 3rd party plugins associated with each track) into the Force, it will be simply the greatest tool to bring projects to 'live'.
      There should be a way to convert Ableton Live projects into Akai Force.

    • @ozkrow2386
      @ozkrow2386 5 років тому

      This is the exact question i have been asking. Got lots of projects already done. If we could Import them into force that’ll make playing live so much better. And we won’t have to bring so much gear with us when we play. I hope we get a clear answer on this soon. I would hate to rebuild sets from scratch again

    • @ozkrow2386
      @ozkrow2386 5 років тому

      Ethnikman Official according to the answer I got from Akai it won’t be able to import projects from ableton. That sucks because it would be awesome to use stand alone. It does have great control over live but it’s nothing you cant do with gear already out there. If you have been gigging live already I don’t see this being a must get. You prob already got a good workflow with existing hardware.

    At first i thought this was just a dumbed down Ableton Live in the box (which in a way it still is); but the more i think about it i start to see it as a great centerpiece in a small live band environment: Singer can plug in their microphone, guitar player can plug in the guitar, the drummer could route his midi pads into it (via a drum to midi interface), and the keyboard player can hook up his keyboard. One question though in that regard: As there are only 2 audio inputs, would it be possible to hook up an external audio interface via USB ?

I hope all bugs have been worked out of the MPC Live and I hope this Force has a lot less (zero) bugs compared to the Live... I was thinking of getting one a while back but went with Maschine MK3 instead. Less investment, familiarity (longtime Maschine user). Yeah, but the Jam is like $1k cheaper than this. For the same money you could buy a Jam, a laptop and a decent audio interface. Given that the Jam comes with the full Maschine software AND works pretty well as an Ableton controller, it's probably the better option. Then again, the Force looks pretty decent as the centerpiece for playing live, even if you just use it for firing off (converted/exported) (audio) clips that you've made in Ableton.

    Ok, I didn’t realize it does have MIDI ports, alas on mini jacks. So the X would still seem better if you were going for an old school control hub of outboard sound modules and synths... but the clip method is preferable to many I am sure. Again, I wish they being the clip methodology to the Live and X! And not just as the simplistic clip launch track type.

  • @boothbuster

    First, I can’t believe they didn’t offer it with a larger and flip up screen like the X. The 7” screen like the Live, which I have, only works if it’s directly in front of you. This setup is akin to using a touchscreen laptop, but worse, it’s as if the screen is pushed flat to the table away from you! I really think this would have been better as an add on module to either MPC, ala NI Jam. Or at least they should have made it as a side by side layout. Or make it as two squares ala Roli blocks, and you configure them how you want! (With built in kick stands... now THAT would have been fresh.)
    Second, I really don’t think much of this. Seemed big and exciting at first glance but kind of uggh after 30 seconds. Without the computer, one won’t have all the plugins like using Maschine or Push, so to me, the whole idea of using it standalone to compose is not as interesting. Second, I already barely use my Live... because it’s a time waster to arrange or finish a track on it, once I make a loop or beat, much better to get it into a Daw. They might as well have had a larger screen, offer mouse support, etc.
    I do like their different keyboard layouts though for the pads! Not sure if Push does that now too?
    Now depending on how crazy tight they integrate this with daws like Live, Bitwig, and also others, that could make a difference, to me. I was always pissed that I bought Push 1, then 2 came out and I missed the trade in period. So I’ve always kind of hearted Akai, being the maker of the first Push. So, oddly enough, it was “nostalgic” in a wrong and weird way to see this with the same Push 1 pad grid!
    Another idea... they could have made it flip open like a laptop (either front to back, or side to side)... that would have been very cool too. And protect itself when in clamshell mode, no case required.

    This has made me want to switch from getting the MPC X or Live to the Akai Pro Force! Yeah Man this is perfect for me as I am a Ableton Live user & the Original Akai Push!
    In Reality this is the Akai Push 2, because it is the Push Fused with a Akai MPC Live! The Stand alone feature makes it more desirable than the Ableton Push 2!
    Well at least that’s how I feel. Hopefully Akai don’t do what they done the last time they said this is going to be upgradable and will last for at least ten years!
    Knowing they already have the next three upgraded models of the Akai Pro Force lined up for sale One year apart from each other! The next Model will be released about 2 years later Leaving the first model as a outdated & automatically lower graded machine considered to be no more than a Prototype.
    And I will feel like a dickhead for buying the limited prototype model. As it will take me about 18 months to save up and buy this I will be Extra pissed off
    Because I wanted to believe you wouldn’t create another one for ten years! And I know that a promise is a comfort to a fool. So I know your lying about that!
    And I know you purposely made this models screen flat because you wanted the feature of the Movable/Tilted&Adjustable screen to be a selling point for the second model of the Akai Pro Force! Otherwise the first model will be to perfect and the fact that they didn’t put a tilt able screen on the first model knowing it is what is needed is Akai Pro making sure they withhold all the features that they know it needs! Same reason they never put a tilt adjustable screen on the Studio or the Touch or the Live! Because they want to introduce them features in the next models. So we the consumer always will want the newer models
    It is like he said this is practically perfect yet we can all see functions & features it is limited in! Yet I still want one as like I said was planning on getting the MPC Live or X now that has changed to this for now May switch back or may get something better but it’s this for now even though Akai Lies! I will be complaining if it has the same start as the original MPC Studio as I unfortunately purchased mine and was disappointed & not to mention the bugs...

      I agree in a way (about the planned obsolescence stuff) but to be fair, it's the way most companies release their products nowadays - NI with the Maschine MK1-MK3, the Maschine Jam (which pads are non velocity sensitive on purpose), Novation with the Launchpad models (they even had the nerve to call the LP S an "upgrade" when all they changed from the original model was brighter lights and slightly better pads) etc etc. Even the iPhone is released this way on purpose. They all do it in order to milk the cow as much as possible, i.e. only add so many new features that it justifies being called "better/newer/upgrade" but hold back with REALLY siginificant upgrades so they can implement those in the model that will follow after the one they've just released. Planned obsolescence, as said.

    • @boothbuster
      @boothbuster 5 років тому

      beatz04 to be fair, these products are more like software though, so they do have to cut off after so many features and actually release the product, otherwise it would never get released! But I am totally with the OP... this is why I will never buy Universal Audio gear... they burnt me on a UAD quad going obsolete in no time way back, and now, every year, they release a latest and greatest flagship audio interface, which is just BS. Compare this to stuff like Lynx converters, RME, etc., which are supported for a very long time and don’t get replaced very often by new models if at all.

    Ergonomics are very wrong with this one. With normal desk height/sitting position your viewing angle towards the screen is very limited. If you tilt it with a stand, then the encoder displays are at the wrong angle. Too deep footprint to reach the screen with hands. It’s so wrong, they had to put it on a coffee table so it’s somewhat easy to operate. Try sitting like that for 3 hour though, your lower back will explode. Bad decisions..
