People's entire childhood was devoted to stuff like Harry potter and Star Wars whereas Dune is a 2 month long internet trend that everyone will forget about until the new movie comes out. When the Harry Potter movies were coming out people didn't forget between releases, they went and bought wands and merchandise and made their whole personalities about it, on the other hand you got Dune which despite being a really good movie series doesn't have the same cultural impact.
I'm sorry I can't agree with this. Here's how I look at it. We are always going to take it as entertainment. It's music at the end of the day. I don't like the argument of friendly competition because what real friendly competition looks like is what they've been doing for a decade. The bragging about your spot on the big three and the bragging about how nobody can touch you on the mic that is the competitive spirit. Even Kendrick's Control verse was competition.
But the Like That verse is different. Drake and Kendrick do not like each other it's clear as day. Kendrick and J Cole's dynamic is very much friendly competition but not Kdot and Drake's, clearly. So you can see how dropping an insincere diss in the middle of serious beef, downplaying his catalogue and seeing the public do it to when you are acquaintances with him can mess with your integrity and your spirit. He said he has respect for Kendrick, they've met before. Rap beef doesn't mean you're enemies and want to hurt each other, but it isn't just friendly competition let's stop it. A rapper should be able to distinguish friendly competition and acknowledge when you're going to far. We as the public can't always make that distinction. Clearly J Cole did and when I look at Drake's and Kendrick's history, he was probably right (that's not the only reason but definitely a contributing factor).
So I commend J Cole for apologizing. I'll admit I wanted the disses too. But that made me realize it isn't worth it. And if the public want "blood" as Cole would say it, which they think is "seeing friendly competition unfold" (which is a pretty weird way to do so), maybe that's the problem.

He’s pretty much the kid that’s known who’s friends with the football teams of two rival schools. Everyone kept telling him to do something and he did. And he didn’t like what he did because that’s not who he is. I don’t understand why everyone is complaining anyway considering they were calling him trash in the first place.

As a fan of both Kendrick and J.Cole, i gotta say I understand and respect J.Cole's apology. Maybe he was a bit afraid of Kendrick's response but I don't belive that's the main reason why he apologised. The main reason is because he is truly like that, and you can see it by the way he lives, (no social media, no jewlrey, etc): a dude who lives a humble, peaceful life and tries to be humble everyday and not have a problems with anybody. And this is why if any other rapper apologised he wouldn't have the same treatment as Cole has had. Their apology would be coming from a "avoiding the career ending response", or it would simply not be genuine.
Now, how I think Cole f'ed up is by not being humble in the rap game. If he would've kept doing better and better music and let all his music, lyrics and skill prove that he is the GOAT, a "who's the best of the big 3" wouldn't even be a debate. But because he talked all that shit for all that time it eventually got to him.
But I still think he was very brave by staying true to himself and apologising to K-Dot in front of all the world.

Star wars is heavily inspired by the Dune series and Dune has also inspired many other sci-fi franchises. Makes sense because it predates Star Wars and was written in 1965. Star Wars just had a better film adaptation first so most people are stuck on that aspect. It’s not unreasonable to compare the 2, theyre extremely similar. I personally like Dune more than Star Wars so far and it’s very dense with lore combined with current day VFX, strong actors and Denis Villeneuve as a director. Idk why he’s pushing back so hard tbh. I would like to see the completed trilogy first though
