The bow is the very front part of the ship, and the very back end of it is called the stern. The port side is the left and the starboard side is the right. Propellers are sometimes referred to as “screws.” The hull is the metal sides of the ship, the keel is the very bottom of it, and the superstructure is the top deck, usually made of wood. Smokestacks or funnels are large tunnels on top of the ship used to direct steam and smoke away from the deck. Masts are large wooden poles on the deck of the ship, usually used to hoist sails or hold a crow’s nest where crew members can see for miles around the vessel. Beam is a measurement that refers to the width of the ship.

The bodies washed ashore for 25 years. What a tragedy. Thank you for sharing.

My great-great-father died on Cap Arcona. He was a doctor from Gornja Radgona, Slovenia/Yugoslavia.
This massacre is non-existing in history books. One more time it shows to be true: the winners write history.

This is so true. History is always told by the winners, and to get the story from the side that loses is where you truly get the complete picture. Thank you so much for sharing your story with me, and I'm so sorry your great-great-grandfather met his end there, may he rest in peace.

Thanks so much for watching it! She was a gorgeous ship and it's utterly disgusting what she was used for!!

It looks so harmless it looks like a regular ocean liner not a prison ship.

Right? She doesn't look as volatile as what she was being used for!

Well, I wonder why the RAF really bombarded the ship. I don't blame the pilots. They did't know. But others should have known -- and probably did?

I miss the fact that the Cap Arcona was the queen of the South Atlantic before the war and still is today (and not this rectangular moving bus called L'Atlantique) and was in its time until the end of the war the most loved ship of hamburg

It definitely was a tragic part of World War II, and devastating for the concentration camp victims.

Very interesting! I read The Nazi Titanic by Robert P Watson! The book mentions Herbert Selpain, the director!

That book is so well-researched. I absolutely applaud Robert P. Watson - I might not be a fan of the title of it, but it definitely covers the sinking and her history so well.

There is a fantastic book written by Robert P. Watson called “The Nazi Titanic” documenting the history of this ship prior to, and during WW II. They type of book you will read in a day or two because one can not put down. Just as phenomenal read as this video is a phenomenal watch. Highly recommended.

@@shipwrecksunday Assuming you are a shipwreck buff. If/after you get around reading The Nazi Titanic check out another book by Watson called The Ghost Ship of Brooklyn which covers the British prison ship Jersey during tyke American Revolutionary War. Reading these two back to back is perfect not only beachside of the subject matter but because one gets used to Watson’s writing style.

It's horrifying to think that 5 ships was sunken/attacked in 5 months in the Baltic sea in 1945. Approximatley 29,000 lost their lifes, yet it's selldom talked about..

      @shipwrecksunday  7 місяців тому +2

What a world we live in that you have to give so many details on a disclaimer before a UA-cam video everybody is still hyper sensitive.
    Great channel and great work.

was thinking the same thing. It does not seem that long ago that such things would not have bothered too many people and the fact that it is a video about a shipwreck should kinda give people a clue that it deals with such a topic.

I know the Nazis made a film of the Titanic disaster (smirked at Goebbels' idiocy when I learned it).
I didn't know it was the Cap (rip those poor souls).

I've seen the German Titanic film- A German officer is the hero, the ship was sunk because of the plotting of Wall Street Jews. Totally strange.
