Hi everyone. I’m working on a 1 year update video on the fountain, it has changed a bit since this video was filmed. Also it will be a chance to show you all the animals that have visited the fountain recently.
Hoping to get the video up in the next week or so. Thanks for watching!

You did not put a little plastic tube to make.the water pump! Wow is amazin! But please for next time could you go slowly to show the main points. Like when you said "this is the filter, oops you connect to the water pump" ...and.thats it? Please would you explain us more. I do not.know anything about gardening and I have a little tiny pond that the water is black looks like nobody take.care of it is in the backyard. I would like.to clean and just have the water keep.pumping by itself. Please let me.know. thanks you.

This was a perfect and easy to make water feature to add to my backyard. It cost me $7 for a 14 inch terra cotta plastic dish from Home Depot and $ 15 for the pump and separate solar panel from Amazon. It only took a few minutes to complete and looks great against the rock and flowers in the back corner of our lot. Thanks for posting.

Watched another person put this kind of fountain together, with the solar powered concept, and she suggested to take the plastic film off the solar panel, as it gets murky quite quickly. Thank you for uploading your build, very pretty.

Just make sure to monitor the water level. This is so shallow that it could easily dry out really quickly, and if that happens, the pump could get damaged.

So far my all-in-one solar fountain has been working for two years, .(minus the winter freeze). It's a cheap 20-25 dollar battery back-up Chinese made amazon pump with solar built in . I bought one for my mother and sister also . Their fountains still run (but, they dont run them as much as I do). Hoping to get another year, even though it already paid for itself. Lol..
I'm going try one with a separate solar pannel for my other birdbath this year.

Butterflies, bees and birds are absolutely attracted to these, especially in the height of summer. In fact, have had both bird baths and feeders, and the bird baths get way more birds visiting than the feeder. But FYI that might take a few weeks for the birds and bees to find the water, and don’t be disappointed if there aren’t many at first…..there will be more once they learn it’s there.

Congrats on getting the job done. I do have one worry though- I've been told that the water above the rocks needs to be only 2-3mm. Anything deeper and the bees will fall in and drown. I think it's the same for butterflies. You might need to check this out for your review. I'm building one water fountain for larger animals and a separate one for bees and butterflies.

    • @SummaGirl1347

You are exactly right. I would build up one side with more rocks for the insects and small birds, and leave one side deeper for the bigger birdies. Plus, if you leave off the sprayer, it will act like a true bubble fountain and attract more hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.

I've made a couple of these in the past. I had two problems. The first was that our area is so dusty the whole thing needed to be taken apart and cleaned out every week. The second was that the pumps don't last very long, 6 months at most I think. After the second one died I decided it was actually getting expensive for something that should have been a cheap project. I topped up the water every day so it wasn't that it was running without water, the pumps were just rubbish.

This is so cute - thank you for the idea : )
May I make a tiny constructive criticism (or maybe two)? : ) From bitter experience and tiny dead bodies of bees, I think that the water (by necessity for the pump to work) in your saucer is a bit too deep for the insects which can't swim. May I suggest a chap in Sydney called Nev Sweeney who has a youtube channel called "under the choko tree?" He came up with a simple design "making s beneficial watering station for insects." It's such a simple design (we have loads round our garden and the bees love them) but you'd probably have to adapt it to your own brand bottles. Wouldn't hurt to have a look : )
The other problem is cats and birds....we have a very predatory cat and an exposed bird bath/water fountain would provide a veritable smorgasbord for her. Doesn't mean I couldn't make one,I just suggest that it is raised up off the ground maybe closer to the bushes where birds have somewhere to hide if necessary (preferably a thorny bush : ))
Hope you don't mind my suggestions - apart from that I think that your idea is brilliant! Love from Australia X

As he’s swapped the gravel for river rocks later in time just a little reminder, keep some rocks slightly above the water level for insects to land at their "refreshing" zone (means away from the sprinkler area!).
And btw, why not wash the rocks before they’re getting added to the basin?

Thank you for this video! Unfortunately I had to buy the pump listed under the new solar pump link, however, it seems the water doesn’t reach the level to make the pump work. Anyone else have this experience or know of any solutions? I’m using it for my smaller tortoise so I can’t really use a deeper dish. This 18in plate would be perfect if I could get the pump to work.
