    I love this. Been wanting a fountain that doesn’t require electricity, just haven’t gotten around to figuring out how. Thanks for showing me! My neighbor just gave me a large pot without any holes the other day… hmmm maybe it will work. I just ordered the solar pump! Onto creating something new tomorrow! 🐝🐞🦋

    Is that pump going to move the water enough that mosquitoes do not breed? I bought some leaf cutter bees and next spring I will get mason bees, I need to provide a water source so they will stick around.

    With temps in the 100's since the start of June (central Texas), I was just thinking about putting out some kind of water feature for the birds. This is perfect and looks great!

    That is so cool, I think I will have to find a place for a similar water feature.
    Never thought of making one from scratch, again... So Cool!

    Well done! I have a 500 gallon fish/garden pond in my backyard and I can tell you from experience that the birds and pollinators will be very appreciative. I have a couple of the solar powered bubbler pumps in addition to the water feature and my solar pumps have performed flawlessly for 7+ years. The addition of the plants will also help shade the reservoir and help cut down on algae and evaporation.

    I wish we could use these types of things, it would be awesome to have nice water feature without needing power but we just don’t have the sun needed to keep these things going 😪
    But also really interesting when you mentioned the problem with the wind…. I was just thinking that I might struggle with a vertical “fountain” type as it’s a bit windy

    I live in Colorado as well and I definitely want to add a bubbler for my pollinator garden area, this idea is simple and perfect! I am curious, do you have to shut it off and move it during the winter? Thank you for this how-to and congratulations on 300k!

    • @GardenerScott

    Thank you for this. I bought a solar pump last year and made a water feature but wasn't happy with it- I think doing a pot inside a pot is maybe my solution! Will you have to put something in it to keep mosquitoes from laying eggs?

    • @brianseybert2189
      @brianseybert2189 2 роки тому

      mosquito dunks, it is a bacteria that effects mosquito larva. The bacteria will not affect any other wildlife.

    First of all fun project! Don't forget to check for mosquito larvae. My SIL brought me some plants in a bucket of water and I just planted them 4 days later and noticed there was larvae swimming around. Don't know how long it takes for them to appear, but Glad I got the job done sooner than later. There are mosquito rings that float to protect against this, but not sure how safe they are to use. And yes the drop of soap trick and not totally sure it works.
    Just thought I would mention as we had a HUGE problem that got increasingly worst every year to the point the mosquitoes were bouncing off our car windows when we came home. We figured it out when we walked behind a neighbors yard and there was a Monstrous pile of TIRES!!! Ugh! We were suffering so much for so long because of this pile. It was promptly cleaned up--thankfully!
    I like water features, but I have enough to keep the bird baths clean. The other neighbor killed his bees again so we don't need to water them. Still, I've seen some wonderful project with these solar powered pumps--very nice!

    • @elisabetk2595

      They spray the water wildly so you end up having to have a fairly deep container and refill it every day or so. At least that's my experience. Also it only lasted one season before the plastic solar panel deteriorated too much to work anymore.

    With the water hyacinth present, and adding water occasionally to the system, as needed, will this type of bubbler need any extra cleaning, other than perhaps annually? I want something with minimal maintenance.

    If you used a shorter hose you would hear the little bubble sound more. I have been thinking about adding a couple to my garden and even bought 4 solar pumps last year but never got around to doing it. Thanks for the reminder.

  • @elisabetk2595
    @elisabetk2595 2 роки тому

    I have to hose out the dish that we use for a bird bath every couple of days, because the birds take a drink and do their business right there into the water. I love this idea but I'm wondering how practical it will be to keep clean. The filters for those fountain pumps get clogged easily. Maybe the water hyacinths will help though.

    I've noticed on a few of your recent videos that the audio of your voice has been more right sided than even. It's particularly noticeable when you've been talking and cut to the music, which is both sides. It makes it difficult if you're only listening with one ear bud.
