Saw it last night. I absolutely loved it. It has flaws but I don’t care. It’s critic-proof. Best camerawork I’ve seen in years Might see it again too. Stuff like this and Dune 2 make me love cinema again
Please tell me one thing: I know it's hand-held camera work, but are the fight scenes shot with wide lenses so you can see what's happening, among all of the camera shaking?
@@hsehovic63 i think the shaky camera aligns with the aesthetic of the messy fighting scenes. it gets better as the main character becomes a better fighter which is great visual storytelling. you can definitely see everything and all the hits feel super impactful. i would say that the shakiness gets a bit too much at times but nonetheless its still a very satisfying action movie.
Wow what a film, start to finish good acting, the set-pieces were stunning, and the choreography was great. 10/10 for a Dev Patel directorial debut and glad that Jordan Peele suggested a theatrical release and not a streaming platform as I can't stop thinking about this film and want to see it again
Loved thissss! Ughhhh the thing that sucks is that I don't know when it's gonna release in India so that I can watch it, rumours are that it's been delayed. In any case, I will go to the theatre to see it!
Ikr i was so bummed when I found out it might not release in india. Like cmon finally someone of indian origin breaking the stereotypes and we can't even support him.
It's coz of hindutva politics that they might block this movie in theatres unless u edit or cut some portion of it coz it has some anti hindutva elements in it. So ya f*ck BJP and f*ck hindutva!
"I felt like i could see and feel this movie's heart." EXACTLY. I haven't felt such visceral emotions watching an action movie in a long time. And it's kind of in line with one of Dev Patel's quotes about it : "I want to make cinema that you can almost smell. I want it to feel like a sweaty armpit."
Loved this review! I don't know if I will go watch just because I am really sensitive to gore and violence (still thinking about it) but I am enjoying hearing people who have seen it talk about it. :)
LOL! Dang. you remind me of when i watch a good revenge drama. I keep thinking I no longer have a vengeful side...and then I see a revenge film or drama and I'm like, "To hell with that mercy crap! Let these creeps get what they deserve!"
Saw it twice, planning to go see it again. I have simple pleasures: hot men soaked in blood, good cinematography, and trans people kicking ass. This movie checks all of my boxes.
I knew I’d at least have a good time with this movie, but I was skeptical at all the glowing reviews because I thought there was no way it could be THAT good apart from the action. So believe me when I say this movie saw my expectations and just kicked the everliving shit out of them. I was expecting to like this but I wasn’t expecting it to immediately become one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie is the epitome of sauce. Dev Patel, I love you.
Finally caught this. Good debut from Dev, I was really impressed! The final act is a bit messy if I'm nitpicking, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought he added enough to the film to stand out from other action movies.
@@Elijah_Gillard yeahhh I was wondering if I should even comment this without seeing Dune 2 still🫢, totally fair as I’m hearing it’s super well done, alright alright I’m seeing it this weekend
Jonathan from The Film Drunk the type of guy to order a banana split and say “I’m going monkey mode!”
Jonathan from The Film Drunk the type of guy to hire an escort then ask if she’s in it for the money
I stg for me this was the only movie where I could actually FOLLOW the shaky cam. Dev has made that style his own IMO

Loved Dev Patel in The Green Knight. The trailers for Monkey Man were awesome. Looking forward to it! Thanks for the review!
Bro where are the film drunk awards

@@nandinihans9130 It's because the movie portrayed a prominant hindu national badly - which is why Netflix dropped the film.
@@schainaubb that makes this even sadder
One of your best reviews. Super fun and engaging. I'm excited to check this out I've been looking for it forever!
Honestly, it’s my favorite film of the year thus far.

I loved this movie as well, and actually loved the claustrophobia of the shots. It really worked for me

I thoroughly enjoyed the Monkey Man as well. Dev Petal and Jordan Peele make a dynamic duo. ❤❤❤❤
Throughout its run time it becomes a better movie. It grows with it’s main character
Saw it last last night, and man, people are sleeping on this movie. It’s so damn good!
saw it last Saturday and i loved it
I agree 100%! This movie was made with passion & rage and it shows. And I love it even more for that!
da best review.
Ima straight man i luvs waman but.. if i was a woman id have a crush on dev patel bro is handsome 💀💀 the beard is key

Hyped for it.
Oh, the "Hey Arnold!" character finally gets to shine!

Is best film of 2024 thus far too much?
I think Dune 2 was a better movie, but this is such an amazing underdog story that elevates the movie even more. its so fantastic

I loved the part where the Monkey Man from Hey Arnold showed up at the end credits scene!
I love Monkey Man
Didn't love it.
Me too. Not enough musical segments
This movie is terrible, that’s all I have to say
