I don't think anybody else has clarified the concept of ahadith with such ease to date. I always wondered that there was so much confusion while reading ahadith of various scholars but now I got the answer. Alhamdulillah...
Bismillah wa ala barkatillah. Ghamidi's sahab statements about hadith are inaccurate at two levels: 1) Presenting the works of Imam Malik, Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim in a manner contrary to the stated intent of the authors of these works. For example, Imam Muslim states in his introduction to Sahih Muslim that his book is intended for people "searching for the traditions of the Prophet saws regarding the practices and rulings of Islam, including reports mentioning rewards, punishments, encouragements, warnings, ..". If Imam Muslim wanted to write a book of history with no bearing on fiqh, he would have stated as much. Imam Tabari wrote a book of history, as well as one on Tasfeer, and the former is called Tareekh Tabari. No one should confuse a book of historical/intellectual interest with a book of hadith in terms of original intent, and subsequent manner of use 2) The Quran mentions the Sunnah of Allah, meaning the established practice of the Almighty. When we speak of Sunnah of the Prophet, it is with regard to his establish practice in a matter. This Sunnah is available to us in two forms, a) one is the common practices of the Prophet, emulated by numerous people in each generation, until our time, e.g. three rakats for maghrib salat. b) Specific rulings that are captured in books of hadith, for example the guidance on what is and what is not considered riba. We dont have the detailed aspects of riba in Quran, nor in sunnah of ihl-kitab, and have to rely on authentic hadith to develop the fiqh of riba in matters such as trade, barter and financial transactions. Wa Allah Aalam.
Very easy to understand and well explained. Agree 100% that our deen is completed on Quran and Sunnah and Hadees is a historical record for reading to get knowledge of how our prophet PBUH dealt with matters in daily life and whenever there was a need to get guidance or direction from him. I am 100% clear about Hadees now. Thanks Ghamdi Sab
