Glad to see a good lad from norn iron lol. I love bbq all year round and every one thinks I’m crazy. I just bought my own house. And will be making a bbq shack aswell. 👍
Thanks mate! We looked at moving too and the first thing I look at is the backyard. Don't care if it's Buckingham palace... If there's no room for a shack, forget about it lol
Awesome Shack looks Great and love the vids, I moved from N.I. to Australia several years ago and love outdoor cooking and the outdoor lifestyle that i have in my yard. Come to Oz, you’d love it out here....keep posting and cooking 👌
I love it. Want to do something special for my husband who is retiring in a few months can’t do this without him so it can’t be a surprise but this is got a lot of ideas that I’m going to use thank you so much it’s awesome
James - love the style of the shack. The cladding using the pallets was a genius idea!!! Also love the table/bench made with scaffolding planks. Grand Designs here you come!
Really happy with it so far mate... I'm sure as I use it I'll make changes etc but it'll be interesting to see how it grow... Just need to try and not set it on fire 😂😂
I know this video is a few years old so thought it was a perfect time to ask how your tools and equipment last in the irish weather? Im in Galway and planning my own outdoor cooking area
Looks awesome, loving the videos. You're so softly spoken so I have it turned up load and then the music kicks in, I sh*t myself pretty much every time :-D
Great shack! We are looking to do something similar at the back of our garage and back wall. It’s A 10 ft x 10ft space with brick walls on three sides. So doing a kind of lean-to type thing. We are starting by not putting a front on the shack. Do you keep all your stuff outside too like pots pans rubs and stuff or just keep them in airtight crates. Just trying to understand how it will work in the UK with rain and bad weather
Great video, I have not long finished my pergola-style Lean-too with a polycarbonate roof. I was thinking first if a pizza Oven but I am now seeing that a Kamado job can do the job also sonny Leanto May take a shack morph!
Hi Mark, All the hanging rails used in the shack are from IKEA. they are rails to go under kitchen cabinets to hang pans etc on - they work great in a shack!
Thats amazing. I stumbled on this without any thoughts of building a BBQ shack but now I'm inspired. Just spent the night investigating where i can source materials. My only question is, how is the masonry paint on the wood holding up? Has it needed any maintenance or suffered from peeling?
Hi, is this shack free standing? Or are the posts set in concrete? The link provided doesn't work and your website is fantastic for the new larger shack but this smaller one may fit my area better.
Interesting. Just working on a master plan where I can have a cooking zone with a pizza oven, that doubles up as a bar (homebrew), so good to borrow ideas.
Nice looking shack! Random question.... do you leave all your utensils etc. In there? We are considering building one and my concern is that as it won't be closed on all sides, things could rust through the winter.
Thanks 😁 I don't have the link to hand but if you Google 'barbechoo shack' the top result is an article on my website where I list out dimensions and step by step of what I did
This is exactly what I'm looking to do. One question, how does the water run off the back of the roof? Is this just over the back fence or is there a gutter?
I had wanted one for a long time, had to come up with an inexpensive way of doing it so recycled wood etc all kept the costs down. It's not a massive shack but it keeps me covered in the winter
Absolutely brilliant, really like the look of the shack, rustic looking, open and very inviting. Brilliant and commendable on using recycled boards and pallets. 👏👏👏 Like yourself, I've installed a polycarbonate roof, if you somehow find how to dampen down the noise when raining🌧️☔ let me know.! 😅 Happy Smokin.. 🔥💭
Haha yes the rain noise is a pain... But it's a little reminder that it's not bouncing off your head so I won't moan. Not sure how you'd dampen it without cutting out the light. Pallets were a cheap (although labour intensive) option but they worked well
Awesome shack! Is it mounted to the ground at all? Or did you tie the back wall into the wall of the house? It would be great to know how you stabilized it!
The back wall of the shack it build straight onto the garden wall then the side wall is fixed to the posts of our garden fence. The front left hand corner has a 4x4 post held into the ground with concrete. It has stood through 3 storms with 70-80mph winds. I was so nervous but it survived lol
Thanks! Can't wait to see what you do with your project.. make sure you tag me in some pics. I will try to write up the build on the website with some step by step pics but if you need any advice.. just ask 😀
I think you'll be alright, you don't really get flames shooting out of the chimney, its more out of the back when the door is open, are you getting an Ooni 3? @@Barbechoo
Told you on Twitter it was awesome. It looks amazing like who was your decorator? You got me wanting to build my prep table and redecorate. The CFO will not be happy. Thanks great video
The front left hand corner post is concreted into the ground. The other posts are fixed to the fence / wall with thunderbolts. Was worried about it being a wind trap but it has survived some pretty bad storms 😂
That shack is totally rad man. I've got a Yoder pellet grill on it's way and I'm wanting to build something similar to this for that and my other BBQ's so I can cook year round. Do you find everything stays dry in there with it being so open? I'm in South Wales so I think we get approx the same amount of yearly sunshine as you guys lol.
Thanks Alex, it's the best thing I've ever done for my outdoor cooking. Congrats on the Yoder... They look incredible 👌 The small bench at the front of the shack takes a beating with the rain, but I expected this. We've had some HEAVY rain and it has never got into the back bench or my cast iron pans etc
Hi! I haven't had too many issues with ventilation. My BBQs sit over to the left hand side at one of the open sides but I've had my Weber go anywhere lit on the main bench and didn't have any issues with fumes / smoke building up under the roof
Hi Bud, awesome setup you got there and you did it purely for the same reason I am about to build mine.I have a lot to do as its on a slight slop opposite my garden tavern.Ive looked at inspiration for my tavern for over 7 months and not long had her finished with a complete ammunition reloading setup and all the stuff youd expect in a pub/mountain cabin. With that, most design elements will be applicable to the bbq shack but first I have to do the groundworks and Sleeper surround for the foundation then pave it. Got so many questions for you but my main one would be the scaff boards you sourced. they seem to be thicker than the ones I sourced, any chance you can send me the dimensions or thickness of the board itself?Have you considered doing a bbq cart build also to house your master touch and WSM?Have you also considered treating the external wood for rain protection?Brad.
Hi Brad Good luck with the build, your tavern sounds amazing. The scaffolding boards I used are 2 inches thick. You can get deeper ones at 2 1/2 inches but these are more than enough They grey parts of the build are all treated with exterior paint but the rest is left natural. I change my mind quite a lot so my thinking is that a couple of years down the line, I might swap out the pallet boards for something else
@@Barbechoo Thanks for the quick reply, very much appreciated. I'm nearly done with my build and I'll be watching and catching up on your content over the coming weeks. Great channel, great shack. Thanks.
I'm loving this channel, and this shack. The wife is gonna kill me soon as I keep telling her that I NEED to get myself a weber and NEED to build a shack in our garden, but she just keeps saying we have a kitchen in the house with an oven. Haha 🤣🤣🤣 Give me 6 months and I'll be sorted 🤞🤞
Haven't had any dramas yet Adam. Chimney starter full of lump sitting in the Weber kettle doesn't heat the roof at all. The Kamado Joe with the kontrol tower flipped open at full temp might be an issue but general use has been fine. The incessant Northern Ireland rain beating off it probably helps keep it cool 😂
Haha, not an overnighter mate... Just finished really late. Was getting sorted out for a party today so was able to let the smoker do its thing... Finished up around 2am haha
Love the shack James! Really well built and looks fantastic. Do you have a holder for your Thermapen? We can send you a bracket for it if you would like? :)

Great space man. The new sign you make for the open space on the wall should light up in some way, in my opinion.
Looks excellent. Its the type of thing I've got in mind now i've be able to free up an area in garden.
Looks amazing. How did you make the table with drawer?
this is my first time on your channel. your shack looks great

Love the reclaimed look with black trim! Thank You for sharing!
Thanks Joe. The worktops have faded a little so need to give them a sand down and oil them again but the pallet boards have weathered nicely
What color masonry paint did you use? Looks dark but somewhat of a blue tint?

Shack looks killer! Love all the Webers!
Thanks mate.. Ive gathered them up over a few years. They cover most styles of cooking.. always room for more though 😜
Great setup man!! Just wondering have you any issues with driving rain damaging the utensils etc in the shack or do have a screen to protect it?
