I'm cheering for my home country all the way but I have to give it to Sri Lanka for the way played in this game. Besides the fact that they lost the game, they are the only team so far that showed real composure when they played against my homeland. It is true that they were predictable at times and of course their tackling was not that good, However, their composure and their willingness to play their own way was what really stood out for me in the first half. They way they played and the composure they kept reminded me of local (fijian) clubs at home. I was genuinely scared by the way they kept their composure and they did show hints of ''Fijian flair'' even though they are from Sri Lanka. They are definitely a team to watch out for in the future!
Thanks for the comment brother. Sri Lanka still have long way to go. Lot of fitness training required. They usually play first 5 minutes well and no fitness after that. If I remember correct few seasons ago when we were paying Samoa were were ahead 12-0. But they didn't have the fitness to play well in the second half. Also lots of politics in the country make it hard to select the best possible team. We Sri Lankans love watching Fiji and lots of Fiji players play in our league as well. Lots of respect bro.

I don't know what all the hype is about...Sri Lanka got smashed 63-5 in the end. They showed glimpses of individual skills, maybe 3 times but this is a physical game. You have to be able to match or counter whatever your opponent dishes out and there was no sign of this at all.
That is bcos these are not our best players. The SLC doesn't have the funds to attract the best players to the team. There is a lot of politics behind this. Rugby is played very competitively between high up government schools but it needs to be brought competitively to other schools and then they must develop rugby at the higher level after these players finish school. We put most of our money in cricket but even that is now gone downhill bcos of politics. We were a powerhouse in cricket but now even that is gone. Damn politics ruin everything.
SL dont have national pool and budget for rugby is very low when comparing with the cricket. If we can manage players with good pay then we can qualify for the WC
bulshit.. almost all of the Fijians had very poor pay and attention(Fact; Ben Ryan the Fiji coach for the OLYMPICS had to pay for bus fuel because they did not have money to pay for fuel or coache's fees for several months) from their government even though they have been the HSBC SEVENS champs for many many years until they won the gold medal. The superior players like SEMI RANDRADRA and JOSUA TUISOVA are paid a fortune for playing in Super Rugby league. Got to admit the Fijian's talent and the love for the sport like no other.
I dont know much about fijian players pay. I only talk about SL and I have no argument about the quality and class of the of the Fiji team and they are my fav team. Sl players dont believe they have future with the rugby. Without national pool cant achieve anything.
SL has cricket culture. Only few cities in Sl play rugby. Sl doing well at asian level but if they want to move forward they need to have national pool.Lot of good players retire early because lack of future with rugby in SL
The ball in Fijian hands was like cradling a baby cucumber but for Sri Lanka it was like porcupine... sad that Sri Lanka did not have confidence to outmaneuver and outrun the big legs of Fiji. When they see Fiji in front of them they like mosquitoes have no direction of escape and Fiji just bug spray them down with one hand.
It's because 7s rugby is Fiji's national sport and is played everywhere. Sri Lanka just need more game time on the world stage to improve. A bit of extra funding doesn't hurt as well. They will be exciting to watch in the years to come.
