Thanks for this. Im building my barra to similar spec and also had the zf built up. I still need to buy more parts but it seems to be adding up to a similar amount. Glad to know ive headed in the right direction.
I have an 09 G6ET. Purchased stock and so far I have got a stronger tail shaft, new centre bearing, the blue diff and trail arm bushes, the coupling for the tailshaft and I'm about to do the mackilec battery relocation kit
Finally someone that tells the truth about and understands the real cost of modifying cars I’ve spent $50000 on my Vl turbo that’s on Lpg yes I know people bag me for that but now it’s starting to surprise a lot of know it all’s and yes I’ve still got problems that have to be sorted but that’s the car game it never ends
I’m putting an NA Barra into a Jag and have been looking at parts to convert to turbo with an aim of 450kW. Like you’ve eluded to, it adds up quick. Gaskets, bearings and the bits, like you say, you add for longevity. Having a non-turbo ZF6 is the biggest hurdle. You can go stronger 6HP26 parts or go the whole hog an commit to 6R80 parts. The problem I’ve realised most use big HP cars for drag times and don’t really talk about fast road driving. I’d like to know more about how the upgraded ZF6 drives when driving on a winding road? Informative video by the way, so thanks!
I’m currently $7500 deep in building a 745rwkw fg I’ve set myself a budget of $45k but will be keeping the original running gear if I ever want to sell the car.. my spending may seem small but it’s only because I spend hours every week researching
Awesome vid mate you really went above and beyond thinking about the longevity which not many people think about, you forgot to mention what tyre's you'll be getting for the tracks? Surely it's not stock tyres haha
Great video mate, I think there could've been a few more things added like Brakes, Shocks and Tyres, just a thought. I am slowly doing up my G6ET, fingers crossed within 12 Months it will be finished, hopefully not as expensive as yours. Hopefully aroung 30-35k including Brakes, Shocks and Tyres. My problem in which order to do the mods, when adding more power to also protect my car at the same time with the added boost.
Thanks legend. Battery cover was a custom one off job. I purchased it off a guy in Melbourne. But I have been toying with the idea of producing them. Only issue is you also need to run a plasmaman battery relocation kit and odyssey battery ( PC925 ) to fit under the cover. Carbon radiator cover is mine. I made a limited batch of 20 in pre preg carbon. But will be doing more in future in non pre preg ( to reduce price point ). Thanks for watching :)
Great video mate. Comments on here about brake and tyre and shock upgrades, that's not part of the HP build so you're spot on. Maybe a labour cost range or hours spent in the shop might give an idea of how much extra? Still, it's peanuts compared to building a v8 muscle car. 30 grand would get a foot in the door only.
Hey mate do you remember the ford code for those headlights as im looking to by those for my mk1 g6et and do you remember what you paid for them from fraud and where did you get your led lights for them from?
Awesome video Damien I know exactly how it cost as I'm doing a BA Falcon full engine build top and bottom, 6 speed tr6060 gearbox billet built , harrot tru trac diff ect ect I got a couple little videos on my channel but it's a progress
Have you done flexplate or axles yet? I have a b&m cooler for my zf, I used a derale thermostatic sandwich plate to plumb engine oil cooler lines to my b&m engine oil cooler which is mounted in front of b&m trans cooler. They are in behind right side fog light. I took fogs out and put mesh over hole. Love your vids man.
No axles as yet and will most likely keep them as the weak link to be honest. I will only rarely be going to the drags, and will get the boot IF I run the 9 I am aiming for. The rest is roll racing so should be ok. However if I break more than 2 sets I will go the upgraded option. Stock flexplate, though it has the mackielec reinforcement ring, ARP bolts and doweled onto the crack. ARP bolts are tack welded also. Trans cooler will be behind the LHS foglight also. Cheers for watching and the kind words mate.
How mate loved the vid, i myself have spent $24k and saving for the trans on my fg g6et. Question? Where can i find that cover you have over your b82rez 😁
Very good break down, thanks. Re the trans cooler, the ZF still needs to be temperature regulated. I fitted a $250 oversized all alloy 'race radiator' instead. I had to replace my FG XR6T radiator anyhow due to a leak. This radiator is the ducks nuggets, and keeps the trans at a nice stable temp. No need to fit an external trans cooler, and tha tmove might even be detrimental to the trans due to poor temp regulation. What about the milkshake risk ? Just fit genuine ford current version replacement part. They are built better now, and haven't been a milkshake risk for some time now. So, $1000 saved right there, and a better result to boot. Re fuel pumps, I fitted the twin 340lph deatschwerks fuel pumps in tank using the KPM 1000hp in tank kit. I do regret not buying the KPM '1500' hp intank kit that used twing Walbro 450s but Iwas wary of Walbro, just had a single 450 fail (turns out it was a non genuine walbro450 !). The intank pumps are totally silent, and keep the fuel cool, rather than a surge tank in the bay soaking up the engine heat. I also fitted a AMS voltage booster for my pumps, yes, I know this is a band aid solution... but it works, my 1000cc injectors can be maxed out. But... the voltage booster is triggered when the intake manifold exceeds 5psi, fine, but, the pumps have some inertia, and there can be a small momentary pause before they are at full flow... I have a small button to boost the pumps at any anytime. Bam, 16V at the pumps - works. I also recommend running 8 guage wiring all the way from the battery, relay, AMS booster etc, and a beefy dround wire at the pump. At 60A on pump boost, there was nearly a full volt dropped using the smaller guage wiring supplied. The 8g wire made the pumps flow heaps better. My tip is to fit the twin in tank walbro450 kit from KPM, their '1500' hp kit, that is good for 1000hp on e85, and install big 8g wiring. Quiet, and keeps the fuel cool, and is cheaper than a Plasmaman surge tank. I also fitted the high flow flow pressure reg that comes with the intank fuel pump kit. To fix the misfire at high boost, gap your plug to 0.7mm, and I fitted a smaller AMS voltage booster for the coils. Over 5spi, the coils instantly run on 18V. This works great, and seamless. Set and forget. Was a Herrod kit. Never a misrfire again. At my recommendation, the turbo taxi boys fitted one also, and that fixed their misfire I believe. I appreciate the suspension advice. Thanks.
Should have got the aftermarket industries intank kit. It's WAYYY better. Also the genuine Ford tranny cooler is dog poo, I went the pwr unit for this reason.
Im curious why you needed any voltage boosters for the pumps or coils... A friends build doesn't run either of those and makes 667rwkw. You on the stock rail and reg?
Ford used KTM, at least at one stage as a source for their trans coolers, later OEM replacements were um, made in China. We had one fail, fortunately on the water side, in three weeks. Will only use external coolers now. No cold shift issues, checked this with a transmission guy and sourced some ZF literature on the subject, all good down to at least - 20c, thank synthetics suppose. Anyway, that's my two cents.
Do you still have stock pistons and internals? How long do you think it will last before BOOM? Atomic told me over 400rwkw it's risking blowing the ringlands off the pistons.
Still SBE for now, but the plan was always to build the engine so will get there. The car is driven mostly on low boost E85 tune which is 477rwkw. There was a lot of time spent on the tunes as well, so while not ideal, I trust Monstatorque's work.
@@scootbmx01 yes you may be right, but iv also heard from other places that over 400rwkw is pushing it for long term reliability. How long is a piece of string tho aye? And is it given death all the time? And hopefully the tune is safe.
Fantastic break down of parts mate, did similar with a 2015 manual Ute and had a mechanic mate help me (do most of it😂) but was staggered at how quickly good quality bits added up, future insurance for sure until a bloke ran a stop sign and t-boned me!!!!! Heartbreaking!! 😥😥😥😥
Great video. Don't suppose you could save the lazy-asses like myself the trouble and put up the list of the parts you've put in? I also notice little 'pretty' things like the coolant reservoir. Even little things like that I don't think people realise cost $$$
Great video mate probably a more honest break down of the cost of modifying the barra turbo falcon combo.
Thanks for this. Im building my barra to similar spec and also had the zf built up. I still need to buy more parts but it seems to be adding up to a similar amount. Glad to know ive headed in the right direction.

Great vid mate cheers and here I am thinking my small $16000 I spent was a good amount for everything to handle 600hp Hahaha
Please keep it with videos .. I wanna know more about the barramundi engine and tuning
Great vid mate ! It adds up pretty quick dosnt it.

Money well spent )) nothing like a turbo barra

Holy Mother of fuck! Good information I had no idea
Nice video mate and even nicer car
You could say almost double that with the labour
Did you buy the stuff and give to work shop or did they order all this stuff for you?
A mix of so many things throughout the build so far mate.
hey mate, would you consider 1250cc injectors if you were going 850-900hp?
I would definitely yes, at my power level 1000cc are up in the duty cycle.
Standard fuel rail mate?
Yeah still OE rail
I like the wheels what brand are they? Thank's.
