I feel really positive and self-confident in my own laugh now bc Murph's raspy cackle is 100% how my actual laugh sounds and it's most often when something feral is happening
I liked the interpretation I saw in a tumblr post where someone was like. "The Wolf listened to this girl go on about lolipopcorn and watching caterpillars chase butterflies for 20 minutes and decided to himself. 'This girl has to live.'"
Wrong. He listened to that nonsense for 20 minutes and lost his appetite and decided he would rather have his skull split with an axe than have to listen to the damn caterpillar story for any longer! “Oh my gods! I don’t care who won the broth Lake synchronized swimming competition! Just pick up that axe, bury it in my skull and eat me. I can’t do this anymore. Please. Chop my honkin big ears first because I swear if I hear any more about the wasp bully and his gang of housefly ruffians I will eat my damn self!”
Brennan broke through there and directed that, not at her character, but at Axford herself. Was getting shades of "Describe for me, Emily Axford, a SEXY RAT"
The look on Brennan's face at 1:03 for "Sorry, a caterpillar was chasing a butterfly?" is such a perfect encapsulation of "I keep giving you chances to put the shovel down but you keep digging, and at this point I just wanna see how deep you'll go"
I love when Brennan goes “I’m sorry(repeats whatever one of the players just said)” when they do or say something batshit insane it’s incredible watching them double down and Brennan then go “alright”
my new favorite moment in this whole show is the full 20 seconds after "grandma, your teeth are honkin big" where the entire table is just wheezing with laughter and no one can speak intelligibly.
It's cause Brennan is simultaneously emphasizing how absurd Emily's words are, and simultaneously allowing Emily to double down on the absurdity if she wants.
They're not explaining the joke, though; they're elaborating on it. Explaining would be something like "I brought candy and dumped the broth; the reason that's funny is because it goes against all conventional wisdom of caring for the sick."
Because Brennan is really good at putting logic into the absurdity of a joke and Emily will just say the most unhinge thing without a thought so that's why its always comedy gold from them
It's Murph taking off his glasses that makes me think he witnesses this kind of chaos every minute of every day and is now happily exasperated that everyone else sees the shenanigans-ery.
Murph and Emily have another DnD podcast where Murph is the DM, and has to deal with the shenanigans constantly lol. I imagine that there is a strong feeling of sympathy for Brennen at the moment lol. Podcast is called and is a great deal of fun!
makes it even funnier when you realize that's the wolf the whole time. i think brennan just sort of forgot but that has some really interesting and hilarious narrative implications
The wolf is briefly possesed by that cop "Hilda Hilda" talks to and decides he needs to further examine the insane shit this kid is saying. Especially with looking into the thought process on the broth.
The combination of Emily’s hilarious stream of consciousness with Brennan’s immediate “I’m sorry, what?” gets me every time 💀. This man doesn’t miss a *beat*.
Do I watch Dimension 20 vids to better my "Yes, and" skills when playing with my friends? Absolutely, I do. Is Emily Axford a national treasure? Damn right, she is.
I love how Brennan reacts to nonsense differently for each person. Typically with Emily he forces her to confront her nonsense and double down, knowing she will do/say something hilarious. He offers so many opportunities to back out, or explain it away or change course and she always plows straight ahead into the nonsense just to drive Brennan crazy. Brennan is different with Lou, he typically volleys comedy back or offers up a situation for Lou to land a great punchline or something. With Ally he tries to just keep everything from unraveling completely and keep Ally somewhat focused, while letting them get a little crazy. I love when Brennan tries to humor Ally like “Yeah, sure… if you get a nat 20 you can….” and then Ally pulls a classic Beardsley crit out of nowhere! Hahaha it’s like telling a kid they can have a flamethrower if they can lift the car and they somehow manage it and you have no choice but to hand a kid a flamethrower and hope they don’t burn the world down. I assume Brennan is so good at that because he knows his friends really well, and he’s very skilled at improv, and although Brennan can see in 4D and anticipate the future he can never predict what Emily or Ally will do. The classic Brennan double take when Emily says something wacky makes me laugh every time.
It took me dozens of rewatches and subsequent buckets of tears squeezed out by my own laughter to realize Murph is saying "We have to name this episode 'Honkin'" because he could only make out a few words 🤣
Murph losing his shit at "Gramma, your ears are Honkin' Big!" has equal and opposite energy to Emily losing her shit when Murph was like "Are you Lucifer, because I've been waiting for you my whole fucking life." in TUC2. Truly, couple goals. XD
"A caterpillar was chasing a butterfly" and "I guess, sort of, how?" are both great quotes. But for some reason the part that gets me the most is Emily's little "Yup!" in between them.
I've said this before, but Emily is fully aware of the "correct" items in the basket, having played Little Red in Into the Woods where it is explicitly stated she has bread and wine. I was fully expecting her to want to get drunk with grandma, but instead she said "Fuck all that, cinnamon toast rolls and lolipopcorn. Also, no flowers I was watching a caterpillar chase a butterfly." And then we get to "Your ears are honking big" and I remember that this is Emily Axford.
I am 100% willing to go out and say this is one of the funniest things I have *_ever_* seen. Like ever. I refuse to believe anything could top the comedy of this sequence
i appreciate that murph and emily are sat together for this because they are so married sometimes. emily is just batshit crazy and murph just has a specifically special reaction because marriage. i love them. they’re my favourite straight couple
this isn't funny but I've been thinking about brennan saying, "i am a wolf" and the fable of the frog and the scorpion constantly since last wednesday and I need people who know what I'm talking about to be mentally ill about it with me
YES because as a character within a story, as a trope across many stories, it is in his nature. and he has no narrative agency when it comes to his role in the stories, he will always do what he was created to do. (spoilers) just as the stepmother acted in her nature without even recognizing it, just as little miss muffet will always be scared of spiders and the wicked fairy will always curse rosamund.
I remember watching this on dropout and I knew this was going to be good when she started describing the lolipopcorn ball. “It’s a popcorn *ball* in a lollipop stick” always gets me
babes wake up, new favorite murph sound just dropped
somebody's gotta make a murph soundboard
the wheezed "Honking..." was SO funny
That was the best feral goblin laugh I’ve ever heard tbh, I wish he was Riz for it 🤣🤣🤣
I feel really positive and self-confident in my own laugh now bc Murph's raspy cackle is 100% how my actual laugh sounds and it's most often when something feral is happening
LMAO. They also spent like 5 minutes at the following adventuring party taking turns saying, “Grandma, your teeth are honkin’ big.”
I liked the interpretation I saw in a tumblr post where someone was like. "The Wolf listened to this girl go on about lolipopcorn and watching caterpillars chase butterflies for 20 minutes and decided to himself. 'This girl has to live.'"

Oh god...I never thought of that way. Maybe the wolf is the bad guy. Clearly he wants to watch the world burn lol
I’m convinced Emily thinks you win DnD by breaking the DM
"She's a joy to play with, endlessly creative, and also was sent from hell to kill me."
-Brennan talking about Emily
I think she might be right though.
At my table, if you make the DM laugh, you get inspiration
It is one of the many win conditions.
no, my dear, she /knows/ you win DnD by breaking the DM
Brennan: The line is, “What big ears you have.”
Emily: Could be better.
She punched it up.
Could be fun!
“Really it’s just sort of a thick inhale. Could be fun!”
I love that you can see her mouth start to form the 'w' of 'what big teeth you have!' and then she catches herself just in time to switch it up.
“i guess sort of how” is my new favorite phrase, my friends will be confused
the little shrug on "how?" is my spirit animal
Brennan broke through there and directed that, not at her character, but at Axford herself. Was getting shades of "Describe for me, Emily Axford, a SEXY RAT"
"...describe this to me."
The fact that this dissolved into such a slow burn yet visceral horror like a minute later is why I adore this season
bro thought she could escape the unspeakable horrors of the Neverafter, she starving 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The look on Brennan's face at 1:03 for "Sorry, a caterpillar was chasing a butterfly?" is such a perfect encapsulation of "I keep giving you chances to put the shovel down but you keep digging, and at this point I just wanna see how deep you'll go"
And Emily finds gold.
And both of them with the same cadence to the classic Hilda Hilda incident...
This is my favorite type of Brennan - Emily interactions because they will look eachother in the eye and double down on what they said no hesitation
The trouble is that Emily Axford loves plying in the dirt.
I love when Brennan goes “I’m sorry(repeats whatever one of the players just said)” when they do or say something batshit insane it’s incredible watching them double down and Brennan then go “alright”
ally's "this is canon" has SO many layers
And they didn't know it yet oh boy
OMG!!!!! You're right!!! Only caught it now when reading this.
Wait wdym?
Ya gotta watch the show, there’s a whole thing with different versions of different characters’ lives
my new favorite moment in this whole show is the full 20 seconds after "grandma, your teeth are honkin big" where the entire table is just wheezing with laughter and no one can speak intelligibly.
Gotta be my favorite gender
They just start wheezing and Honkin'🤣🤣
Emily and Brennan are living proof that "Explaining a joke kills the joke" is a bold-faced lie.
@@Scorpio3002 youre right however this is still very funny
"I guess, sort of, HOW?" XD
Because Brennan is really good at putting logic into the absurdity of a joke and Emily will just say the most unhinge thing without a thought so that's why its always comedy gold from them
This is some of the strongest Hilda Hilda energy that I've seen in a while.
fr fr
His voice got extremely similar to the woman at the "Police House"
Brennan asking Emily to clarify her on-the-spot ramblings and shore up her own plotholes is one of my favorite things about Dimension 20
So your name is Hilda Hilda.. and you live at both..
😂😂
“I guess … sort of, how?” Is a great line reading
when emily came out with the first “honkin” i knew she was gonna repeat that shit. i love her so much
sarahbear hi!! also yeah me too you can probably tell
Her crit role character is funny
"Pulling a Hilda Hilda" lives now rent free in my head
"your ears are honking big" is this that "rizz" all the kids are talking about?
You know it's gonna be good when Brennan says "Sorry, [repeats what Emily said]?" like at 1:03
brennan forcing emily to commit to her insane choices is my favourite trope
Yeah this bit had real Hilda Hilda energy for a minute there.
"You brought this to MY house?"
"No, the police house"
I want a compilation of all the times he does that to Emily’s wacky phrases. That would be a fantastic compilation.
Zac and Brennan also did this with "I was already on your list of best friends and i moved up four places?"
@@reedsquad027YES! Tbh I listen to NADDPOD for the unhinged-ness of it all vs actually trying to figure out where the stories are going.
For real the most wholesome thing is the kick they get out of each others shenanigans
Brennan trying his absolute best not to break character but still going "I NEED TO UNDERSTAND"' is the funniest thing
I love how often the editors choose to cut to Murph reacting to her shenanigans now
makes it even funnier when you realize that's the wolf the whole time. i think brennan just sort of forgot but that has some really interesting and hilarious narrative implications
I think he didn't, he was just going with his comedic instinct. He knew the hard shit would be around the corner and leaned into the hilarious.
The wolf is briefly possesed by that cop "Hilda Hilda" talks to and decides he needs to further examine the insane shit this kid is saying. Especially with looking into the thought process on the broth.
@@logicaloverdrive8197 nailed it
@@Rylee_G Real "Police House" energy at 0:58
The wolf only found Ylfa after she lost sight of the caterpillar and butterfly, and is fucking befuddled at why she ended up in his domain.
The only thing tragic in this entire episode is the little caterpillar who's friend turned into a butterfly before them
Oh yeah, I'm with Lou, I want to watch that story unfold
Brennan desperately trying to make things scary and Emily doing everything in her power to make that as difficult as possible is exactly what I needed
Brennan yes anding Emily into a tiger pit is my favorite recurring theme
1:04 Brian reacting to Emily every time makes me cry laughing 🤣
i love his silent laughs that progress into wheezing and the taking off of the glasses just really elevates it LOL
“I don’t think I laughed, I just exploded” murph
Add this to the long list of moments where we see Murph mentally mull over the fact that this is his wife and life-long comedy partner 😄
It’s so startling to refer to Murph as Brian
@@lycodra4113 lol truly!!
The combination of Emily’s hilarious stream of consciousness with Brennan’s immediate “I’m sorry, what?” gets me every time 💀. This man doesn’t miss a *beat*.
the whole table silently laughing so its just kind of a quiet wheeze is just as incredible as a full blown scream laughing lou moment.
There's something incredible in a well-executed usage of the exact same joke a second time in succession. Emily nailed it here.
I appreciate Ally, Siobhan and Lou attempting to maintain composure but I love how Zac and Murph lost it instantly
Emily really messed with Brennan so hard that his "yes, and" turned into a "yes, but what the fuck are you talking about"
The pivot from hilarious to heartbreaking was just impeccable.
It was such an incredible whiplash to just get some classic Emily shenanigans in the insanity of this season
And then immediately the terrifying wolf.
I love that when she gets to caterpillar chasing a butterfly, Murph just takes his glasses off to get ready for the ride.
It's not just the "honkin", it's the fact that she went straight from ears to teeth. Like, NO buildup whatsoever 😂😂😂
Do I watch Dimension 20 vids to better my "Yes, and" skills when playing with my friends? Absolutely, I do.
Is Emily Axford a national treasure? Damn right, she is.
Global treasure
@@Bounderandacad this is much more accurate than my statement and I appreciate you.

I think Brennan saying "this is where the broth goes!" Is severely underated
Emily bringing the whole room to a stand still. She's so good. They're all so good!
It took me dozens of rewatches and subsequent buckets of tears squeezed out by my own laughter to realize Murph is saying "We have to name this episode 'Honkin'" because he could only make out a few words 🤣
I wonder if Grandma lives on Hilda Street.
Nah she’s on the other side of town on Hilda Blvd lol
@pika oh, right. I forgot.
"I dumped the broth on the porch of the police house because it was weighing me down."
Murph losing his shit at "Gramma, your ears are Honkin' Big!" has equal and opposite energy to Emily losing her shit when Murph was like "Are you Lucifer, because I've been waiting for you my whole fucking life." in TUC2. Truly, couple goals. XD
Brennan’s “Hilda Hilda?” voice is how you know Emily’s cooking something great.
This sequence is just so good. I love it every time.
Murph needing to take his glasses off LMAO
“She was also sent from hell to kill me.”
"It's about twenty minutes of this" also describes this channel really well.
"A caterpillar was chasing a butterfly" and "I guess, sort of, how?" are both great quotes. But for some reason the part that gets me the most is Emily's little "Yup!" in between them.
Wake up babe, a new Hilda Hilda just dropped
Murph taking off his Glasses while Emily digs herself into an improv hole and Brennan dives in head first is always amazing to watch
I love the disbelief when Brennan says "I'm sorry..[repeats what Emily says]. Very Hilda Hilda

her doubling down with “your teeth are honkin’ big” has the same energy as “p.s. looking forward to trying those drugs you gave us” in acofaf
WEEPING with laughter. Emily is the best chaos gremlin in the world!! 😂
Whelp, now I've got to go back and watch that whole memory sequence.
thank you for putting this out, i will now be rewatching for eternity.
"Oh so this is a tragedy" just makes Brennan's response perfect.
The fact that i knew the exact moment from the thumbnail because ive watched this bit so so many times... Axford never change
They say on a quiet night, if you listen very closely, you can hear Brian Murphy's soul exiting his body at 1:58
This is her slipping into another "Hilda Hilda from 22 Hilda Street AND boulevard" mode
The fact that this is the wolf talking to Red somehow makes it even funnier.
A lot of Emily dialogue reminds me of that that piss in a hot topic Sonic fandub line
*_”what are you two f U CKING TALKING ABOUT”_*
"everyone wheezing hysterically" is definitely the best caption I have ever seen.
i like how murph’s laugh at the second “honkin big” is less of a laugh and more of an avian hiss
“Yep” 😂
The pure joy of the table listening to Ylfa recounting events makes me so happy
Whenever I read Little Red Riding Hood to a kid in the future I'm now gonna add Honking to every line.
I am 100% willing to go out and say this is one of the funniest things I have *_ever_* seen. Like ever. I refuse to believe anything could top the comedy of this sequence
nice user name
Emily always turns Brennan's "Yes and" into "Wait what"
"Hello Little Girl" from Into The Woods except little red just dumps a whole container of broth out in the flowers while the wolf is singing
Comedy law: jokes should come in three
Emily: but have you heard of HONKING?
Ladies and gentlemen Emily Axford….
Talking to death itself.
I crack up every time I picture Emily almost killing everyone when she flips the car in fantasy high trying to look cool. Ah I Love That.
i appreciate that murph and emily are sat together for this because they are so married sometimes. emily is just batshit crazy and murph just has a specifically special reaction because marriage. i love them. they’re my favourite straight couple
This has the same Emily Axford energy as the "Hilda Hilda" scene from FH:SY
My favorite recurring bit of the season was Murph getting so upset at his wife's insane roleplay that the glasses just had to come off
Not to be sappy on main but Murph wheezing with laughter at Emily's bits is so sweet to me
To bring the whole table to wheezing is next level.
this. dissolved me. i was cackling at 1:38 am baby
I love her majesty Emily Axford
when murph takes off his glasses u know its gonna be good
you can tell the moment Brennan thought, "In character, The Big Bad Wolf would probably let this go.... but this is too funny to not follow up on."
This made me snort and cry-laugh, and I've not seen this season yet
this isn't funny but I've been thinking about brennan saying, "i am a wolf" and the fable of the frog and the scorpion constantly since last wednesday and I need people who know what I'm talking about to be mentally ill about it with me

I like when Emily asks if he wants her and her grandma to die and he just very matter-of-factly says, “YES.”
Murph taking off his glasses in just full "She is pure chaos and I've chosen to love her forever" energy.
I love that Murph is so exasperated by Emily but still thinks she’s the funniest person in the room.
I need a video dedicated to the Murph laugh and wheeze special
the "sorry, a caterpillar was chasing a butterfly?" was almost the exact same tone as "i'm sorry your name is hilda hilda?"
This is an instant Emily Axford classic. She commits to character so much!
Okay, now I want to listen to Mother Goose's podcast...
The fact that this isn't the her grandma, its the WOLF
"This is where the broth goes" kills me everytime
love is Murph wheeze laughing at Emily’s character development
Hold up. “Grandma Ylfa Jottensdottir”?
Grandma Ylfa is a daughter of giants?
rewatching this again for the 10000000th time in preparation for emily knocking the socks off of matt mercer
emily axford my beloved agent of chaos ❤
I remember watching this on dropout and I knew this was going to be good when she started describing the lolipopcorn ball. “It’s a popcorn *ball* in a lollipop stick” always gets me
I love watching Murph fall in love with his wife all over again at the table

I wonder if Brennan told Matt just how chaotic Emily can get before she joined campaign 3 or did he do his own research.
they all know each other, so im sure he knew what he was getting into
