The main problem I find with this film, is that it totally ignores the scale of the solar system. This scale is huge. The solar radius is approximately 695,700 km (432,288 miles), and the Earth is about 6,371 km (3,959 miles). The average distance between Sun and Earth is a staggering 150 million km (93 million miles). So, the distance between Sun and Earth is about 215 times the radius of the Sun. Compare this to the graphic in the clip.
The GRAND SOLAR MINIMUM...!! The number of sunspots decreases while the number of coronal holes and intensity of solar storm increase. The heliosphere also weakens down so galactic cosmic rays and neutrinos (which can reach the Earth's core and magma) shower down more on the planet, heating up the Earth's Uranium core, magma and crust increasing the tectonic and volcanic activity and also the intensity of storms, the ratio of vaporization of the oceans and the crust so very humid places like Brazil will have more rain while places with poor soils like Eastern China and Europe will dry up as the crust gets hotter from inside out. As for the volcanic activity, SO2 cannot beat CO2 as it cools the planet down to the level of the ice ages. The Day After Tomorrow (2004) 2012 (2009) Knowing (2009) Idiocracy (2006) X-Men Days of Future Past (2014) Terminator movies even the Whole Avengers Movies concept of Thanos have all a lot of truths behind it about the real world. The whole concept of trying to revert time back into the past, revert Climate Change, Depopulation, Tyranny, The crazy guy from Yellowstone in 2012 movie talking about Charlie Hapgood which's theory even Einstein believed is true. Even the Apocalypse from the Bible is kind of right about the "trumpets"... There is the Hum some people hear around the open space in the atmosphere coming from above with horrible metallic sounds that at first you think it is a train or a ship's horn but then it seems like an entire industrial complex of metallurgic falling down from high in the sky into the ground making horrible metallic sounds that seem exactly like a gigantic metallic trumpet. Maybe even the ice giants really do exist...😂 Now think with me, one of the reasons for the pandemic have been done with an artificial virus was an attempt to prevent another much more terrible pathogen that nature could come up on it's own during these volcanic winter times and with the sun sending more radiation maybe increasing the mutation rate in all life, the viruses could try adapt to a different climate and come with a terrible disease to humans. So maybe covid could replace any other more terrible pandemic virus from spreading to humans as covid already did it. What is happening now is cyclic, it already happened many times before and in a constant same, non-random amount of time. Even the alignment of planets and the center of the galaxy happened and are still gonna happen again during these decades close to now.
Not depressing. Happy in fact. End of the world means that I get to see Jesus. If I go to heaven or hell however I cannot say but at least this toilsome existence will be over.

0:57 This is a lot bigger than 100 Microtesla. In any case, Superflares are measured in erg (10 ^ -7 joules), a measure of energy; not tesla, a measure of magnetic field strength. The Carrington Event was 10 ^ 32 erg (10 ^ 25 joules). Our sun can probably spit out flares 10 times that size on somewhat of a regular basis, geologically speaking. The biggest flares ever observed on Sol-like stars fall into the range of 10 ^ 36 to 10 ^ 38 erg, or up to 6 orders of magnitude, or a million times larger in strength than the Carrington Event. That would pretty much do it for us.
1:03 Based on the size of that sun model (let's say a diameter of 10 inches based on his computer screen size) then Earth would be about 100 feet to the left. You could also hold constant his distance from the earth to the sun, bringing the size of the sun model to 0.1 inches. Earth cannot be physically destroyed from a solar flare or CME, but they could severely damage our entire electric grid.
So from what you are saying, realistically, if a super flare were to happen around our lifetime, only our electronics and technology will be affected but nothing will happen to us besides us being in exposure to higher levels of radiation?
Though he is wrong, if what he said is true that the radiation would go a mile into the Earth, the oceans go deeper than just a mile, so technically the fish at the bottom of the sea would be fine, as well as any human who is lucky enough to be on a submarine when it happens. A submarine ending would be haunting though. Think about it. Everything goes silent, you don't know whats happened, you resurface to a burnt out hellscape, with no sign of life left...
+Roman Curiel Solar flares actually happen quite alot, but it's totally different than in this movie, the biggest risk they can form is shutting down satellites and radiation problems for astronauts. It's not like it misses earth, it's not that concentrated, its more like a cloud expanding, if you were to be close to it you would get radiation poisoning, but our atmosphere protects us against it.
Lord shadoko, our atmosphere is our whole protection against the sun together, wich includes the thermosphere, mesosphere, stratosphere and our troposphere. If the solar flare would be pointed directly at us 100%, our complete atmosphere would be ripped appart if it were as powerfull as it once was. But this just doesn't happen, we are so far away that it would never be able to hit just our planet straight if it were a direct flare, wich is even more impossible, it's more like water splashing and spreading appart, losing it's energy the further it goes. This does hit us, and can disrupt electric signals and cause radiation problems to astronauts out of our atmosphere.
The sun may not be 93 million miles away, but this scene makes it look like its right on top! A flare, 3 times the suns diameter, would still get nowhere near us!
@@KoId. it's a super flare unlike what they predicted they made a miscalculation and earth is only far enough for regular one a massive flare can affect earth we only the third planet close to the sun

Clint Eastwood walks in and stares at the sun as it's about to flare...sun stops and behaves itself
😃
Actually he'll get burnt to a crisp
This is actually a good movie. The ending is sad. Underrated in my opinion.
Happened before it will happen again, yet we are still here. Be not afraid
Yeh
I came back for the recent Auroras Boreales 😢
We need more apocalyptic movies.
They take time to make
And now they saying that we are in the beginning of a solar storm, almost every movie that's about the world has come true.

A casual day in the solar system

Sun: ummmmm no?

Sun: fine I did

HAAAAHHAAAAA
To be fair, the clip of the sun erupting paired with the fart sound effect would make a pretty funny shitpost meme
lets be thankful that the solar flares irl aren't dangerous as shown in the movie

This was literally a great, thrilling movie until the ending when they revealed the aliens

Had this movie released on Netflix last year or now, it would have been a success.
Can’t let the sheep know what’s coming.
How did it go from a superflare emitting radiation to a mass ejection which burns the Earth?
When I watched it I was 'What the absolute FUCK???'
How are all the planets perfectly aligned with the path of the flare though? That's some bullshit astronomical convenience.
Mik Moen well it is a computer.
Mik Moen it DOES actually happen. incredibly rarely but planets DO align. hence the saying "when the planets align"
It's a simulation so naturally it places the planets in a straight line so you can visually see how big the flare is.
@@LouisE-mp8lx Relative to the age of the planet.... humans have been on it for a literal blip
I know 😂
0:30 sun has corona
I mean every other Star has corona, quite literally
Sad part, is that this could happen at any point in time.
No it can’t it is LITERALLY impossible
In the words of George Carlin "The planet isn't going anywhere. We are!"

THE END IS NEAR!
2020, dont be getting ideas!
This movie ignores science for scarience. The sun could totally destroy us but the example they used is incorrect
One of my fav movies of all time! Great cast and story!
This actually happens to our sun every 12k years, we are up for it in the next 20-30 years.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
2012 (2009)
Knowing (2009)
Idiocracy (2006)
X-Men Days of Future Past (2014)
Terminator movies
even the Whole Avengers Movies concept of Thanos have all a lot of truths behind it about the real world.
Maybe even the ice giants really do exist...😂
Now think with me, one of the reasons for the pandemic have been done with an artificial virus was an attempt to prevent another much more terrible pathogen that nature could come up on it's own during these volcanic winter times and with the sun sending more radiation maybe increasing the mutation rate in all life, the viruses could try adapt to a different climate and come with a terrible disease to humans.
One of Nicks best movies.
Excellent!it kept my eyeballs busy. When cage figured out the number sequence and realized it was more than a "murder of numbers" the action begins.
A really good movie though rather depressing.

Solar flare countdown biggins.
Solar flare is on the news lately.
@@Dexterityyu we would also get to see some pretty wild aurora
Thanks bro, made me feel better
@@Dexterityyu no a super flare would kill us but the thing that caused the carington event (strongest cme ever recorded) was a geomagnetic storm.
@@jonahmoran3751 Solar flares don't kill people, the skin cancer caused by the Sun is what does kill people.
I heard that the sun produced a massive flare in July 2012 but missed earth. Is it true?
+Roman Curiel Solar flares actually happen quite alot, but it's totally different than in this movie, the biggest risk they can form is shutting down satellites and radiation problems for astronauts.
It's not like it misses earth, it's not that concentrated, its more like a cloud expanding, if you were to be close to it you would get radiation poisoning, but our atmosphere protects us against it.
+Ruben Manssens it's the magnetosphere, right.
Wouldn't powerful solar flares be likely to completely disrupt our communication systems and more broadly speaking our electronic technologies ?
+Ruben Manssens but, still, if a massive flare hits us, probably farewell to all electricity😢😭.
Krennic just loves to watch Death Stars in action...
I remember a lecture about solar flares in science class in middle school and ever since then just the word “solar flare” scares me now.
