This stuff makes sense. I actually tried doing skating just to get a feel of properly shifting weights on my feet. After a month of practicing, it's much easier to look for angles to punch since the movement is more fluid.
Former Olympic coach Carlos Duncan taught me to throw it short and tight. A Mexican coach in California taught me to throw out long and scooping for more power. Instead of saying one way is wrong or the other way is right I use both depending on the situation at that point in time.
Been watching for two years or so and it’s crazy to see you come back. You’re easily one of the best and I’m so glad to see that everyone loves you!! Makes me happy to see this channel grow
So glad you mentioned skateboarding, some of your tips have helped me so much with that as well believe it or not, any sport that requires balance really all is in the hips.
At this point, it makes sense to examine this man's content in reference to a product. In which order should his content be viewed? What are the recommended deliverables at a stage before adding the next part, etc.? Clearly he has the goods when it comes to conveyance through this medium (no small feat, considering the hundreds I've reviewed since the 80s). This is a man in search of the proper vehicle. Frankly, he is too good not to go to the next level, and has the viewership to justify the transition. I should like to discuss it with him, should he approve the idea.
I love how quickly and smoothly he rebounds back into stance and snaps that jab out after anything he demonstrates, such a good default to drill back to
Thank you, sir! I appreciate the way you explain everything so thoroughly and even just after 1 sparring sesh I literally feel so much more comfortable behind my jab. thank you thank you thank you
I've definitely been making that mistake of leaning using my shoulders to generate that power and will definitely correct that with the proper body mechanics ASAP. Thanks Coach 👍🏾 Your knowledge is Gold
Something that helps me conceptualize the movement aspects of the TBS is Military Drill. They turn at 45, 90, and 180 degrees on a dime all with feet and hip movement. It isn't a 1:1 match but it definitely helps.
This boxing channel is one of my all time favorites and I still go back to it from time to time , I know if you get into reels and shorts it would definitely be a game changer and result in more exposure subscribers and impact on people
That example you gave about lifting an object just blew my mind! Simple but very effective. I can throw a decent uppercut with my right hand but the lead one always feels kinda stiff and weak and i hope this train of thought helps me improve.
@@TMIMM Oh and dude I was alone at work last night and obsessively practiced this lead uppercut technique, it works great after a jab. I figured out the key to his punches is the footwork, you make sure the position and form is correct, the punch will be found.
I KNOW THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT THE UPPERCUT, BUT I JUST HAD 2 SAY THAT THIS MAN'S FOOTWORK IS SICKENING!! I ENJOY ALL YOUR CONTENT MR.COOK, BOTH YOUR OLD STUFF FROM LIKE "2010-ish" AND YOUR NEW STUFF PRESENT DAY!! 🧠💪🥊💪💪
Thank you so much for this video! I've been struggling with my uppercut for a while and this explanation makes so much sense that I'm confident I'm able to throw a decent one now!
Your style is a great one. I’ve been working on blending it with my Muay Thai And karate background. I’ve been able to flow between the three pretty seamlessly but I want to hybridize them. Like a “true kickboxing stance”- if you will. I’ve just had to take your concepts and apply to kicks as well. My sparring partner was not expecting that shit lol. Thanks Marvin! You are a excellent teacher!
Nice touch with the anime graphics edited in, that was funny, you're getting pretty slick at this 👍good lesson and great detailed explanation as ever, thanks
Wow this video (along with many of his other videos) is so detail oriented and every word and example is constructive and useful. 4 thumbs up. (My hands and toes)😁
That long uppercut was used by Lenox Lewis. The logic is simple, you protect the sides of your chin but not the middle. That long uppercut lands well on that middle.
For some reason, Mike Tyson's uppercut comes to mind watching this video and he did it several times to devastating effect EXACTLY how you said it's wrong to do it! I think beyond biomechanics, which I believe you've explained perfectly, it's also a matter of style... Maybe. I dunno. I may be wrong.
I was told not to throw a lead uppercut unless your opponents head is actually down. I was probably lied to. I've been lied to my whole life. This video makes sense too because you're bending your knees and it's causing you to not leave yourself open. If thrown properly yes I can now agree with this video.
Good to see another video,I did ask for the uppercut one 👍,this is such a great punch,it’s the lunch I’ve been hit with the most over the years and it sucks lol,me personally I love to use that corkscrew uppercut as a southpaw, like Prince naseem hamed, and Conor McGregor used a lot,and sets up the straight left afterwards great combo !!,
Marvin should never have to ask for a thumbs-up.... i haven't seen a video that wasn't useful from him. He is hands down the most scientific approach.

Watching your videos has brought so much fluidity. TBS is where it’s at!! Loving the editing too. Good to have you back MC
I always likened describing the upper cut like shoveling snow. Thank you for the explanation.
The intro was hilarious, HUGE LIKED before watching past the first 15 seconds
I love how quickly and smoothly he rebounds back into stance and snaps that jab out after anything he demonstrates, such a good default to drill back to
Great breakdown. And I learned something helpful for snowboarding and other sports. Moving the feet not the shoulders. What a great detail.
Thanks again for the great content coach!
Always glad to see your support in the comments 🙏 hope all is well
Andre Berto's uppercuts are textbook form just as described by Coach Marvin Cook. Very beautiful.

Dope video. Thank you for the explanation and demonstration. Ken and Ryu has been throwing the uppercut wrong since the 90s lol
