👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼 Hello from California! Thanks for all your awesome videos..I enjoy them, especially the ube recipes! **Question** Why do you put baking powder in the frosting? Does that help hold it together?
Hi Jennifer - thanks for your comment! Glad you like our videos. In this particular recipe, a little bit of acid (lemon juice) is added to prevent crystallization and balance out sweetness. The little bit of baking powder helps to then temper the acid. Hope this helps! :)
Hi Nina - thanks for your comment! Glad you like our videos. Please let us know how your Funfetti Cake turns out. I'll add egg pie to my list of recipes to research and make a video :)
This cake recipe is awesomely good, but I don't know if I will be able to make one like this. Maybe I can make a similar and easy one modifying it by using two 9" round pan and frost it with buttercream frosting, of course with funfetti sprinkles. I will eliminate funfetti crumbs, I don't know if I like it. For me the most important is the cake and the buttercream frosting. BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONALD and May GOD BLESS you.
Hello - thanks for your comment! Donald says thank you for the birthday wishes :D Please let us know how your Funfetti Birthday Cake turns out! Take care :)
Hi Abi - I’m not familiar with that product so I’m not sure. But you may make any changes you like, any adjustments you see fit to make this cake more enjoyable for you 😊
Hi Issa - the corn syrup creates a smoother texture for the frosting. But you can definitely omit it, no need to substitute with anything. Hope this helps! 😊
Hello - you can use individual round cake pans for the batter if you'd like. The reason I used the rectangular baking sheets is so that the final cake has perfect straight edges - this is the technique for “naked layer cakes”. There is no frosting on the sides to hide uneven edges. When you use a cake ring to cut the rectangles into circles after the cake has cooled (like in the video), the edges remain straight and sharp. When you use round cake pans, the round cakes inevitably shrink a little when cooling as they pull away from the cake pan walls. And so the final cake may look just a little bit uneven. But it will still taste delicious! Hope this helps! :)
There should be enough batter with the recipe as is for a two-layer 9” cake. But you may make any changes you like, any adjustments you see fit to make your cake more enjoyable for you 😊
Hi Magdalena - if buttermilk is not available, for each cup of buttermilk needed, you can use 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice plus enough regular milk to measure 1 cup. Stir, then let stand for 5 minutes. You can also use 1 cup of plain yogurt or 1-3/4 teaspoons cream of tartar plus 1 cup regular milk. Hope this helps!
Glad it turned out well! If you want, you can send pictures on Facebook or Instagram - the links are below: Facebook: facebook.com/CookingwithKurt Instagram: instagram.com/cooking_with_kurt

Hi Kurt..did you have to double your ingredients from the original Christina Tosi recipe which is for an 6 inch cake, and you made an 8 inch cake? I want to make an 8 inch cake, but all Christina's recipes are for 6 inch cakes.
Hi Aleana - thanks for your comment! Glad you like our recipe video. The height of the cake ring shouldn't matter, since the acetate sheet will hold the cake together. Hope this helps! :)
Hi April - you can definitely use this batter recipe to make cupcakes. Same temperature (350 F) - just reduce the baking time to 15 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of a cupcake comes out clean. Hope this helps! :)
Hello - thanks for your comment! Very kind of you to say!! We decreased the amount of sugar in the cake batter, frosting, and funfetti crumbs to make the overall cake less sweet. And we used alternative ingredients for the grapeseed oil, citric acid, and glucose in their recipe - since we couldn't find those. And this is an 8" cake, which is a little bigger than their classic 6" cakes. But overall, the taste and look should be very similar! Hope this helps! Please keep us posted on how your Milk Bar Birthday Cake turns out if you make it :)
OMG, I was currently checking for some Milk bar Birthday Cake Recipe and here you just posted recently! What a good timing ☺️ PS: I have a question though, can I just make half of this recipe and bake the first half first since my oven can only fit a quarter sheet pan (9” by 13”)?
Hello - thanks for your comment! Glad you like our video! Please keep us posted on how your Funfetti Birthday Cake turns out! It's generally best to bake the batter as soon as possible so that the chemical leavening agent (baking powder) work best to make the cake rise, but leaving the remaining batter in the fridge while your first batch bakes should be okay. Hope this helps! :)
@@cookingwithkurt Hehe, another question though... Can I use unsalted butter instead of shortening in the cake and frosting? I know it might not yield the same results as yours but do you think it can be a good substitute? Thank you!

Could I use 3 '8 inch' pans instead of a big rectangular one?

Hello - you can use individual round cake pans for the batter if you'd like. The reason I used the rectangular baking sheets is so that the final cake has perfect straight edges - this is the technique for “naked layer cakes”. When you use round cake pans, the round cakes inevitably shrink a little when cooling as they pull away from the cake pan walls. And so the final cake may look just a little bit uneven. But it will still taste delicious! Hope this helps! :)
I use round pans and it’s perfectly fine no need to use the sheet pans.
